I usually turn down the till receipt in SuperU, I have a loyalty card so they email it to me (mind you, the thing about doing without the receipts to save the scrap of paper when there's so much waste and excess packaging anyway seems like straining at a gnat). However, I do still get the paper vouchers, if they don't give those to you that's their oversight I imagine and you should ask for them. I only really find the fruit and veg one worthwhile, the others always have too high a minimum spend on stuff I wouldn't really buy otherwise. My friend who does most of her shopping in the local Carrefour Contact has been overcharged and when she's gone back she's been told it's her responsibility to check at the time, (as I have been in Lidl in the past) and I don't know how you're supposed to do that if you don't take your receipt!
I love that you get money back on your store card! I looked into a few "cash back" programs here in the US, but the discounts were always for items that i would never purchase anyway! I started using a couple of " receipt picture" apps and at least can get gift cards once I've submitted enough receipts. Every little bit helps!
I don’t drive but I have a ride to a local supermarket weekly. I stick pretty closely to my shopping list, but when something is on sale+ I know I am going to use it, I will buy it and put it away for future use.
This week my local store had 80/20 burger for $2/lb IF you spent an additional $25. With grilling season coming up, well worth a couple of grocery trips this week especially since there were other good loss leaders to stock up on. Glad I had set aside some stock up funds!
The stores in my area in the US have apps you can put on your phone to see the offers but we don't have anything like the vouchers you have. You are really lucky your stores offer those.
Some great tips and bargains there Jane, especially the meat, which as we all know, is very expensive now. I get my discounts and freebies through the supermarket apps. I signed up to more of them after watching one of your previous videos about store apps. Iceland has 10% discount for over 6O's on Tuesdays, which is handy to know when stocking up the freezer. I will however pay more attention to receipts now. Thanks to you both for sharing this useful information. 🤗
I check out the weekly discounts ahead either in the paper flyers or on line. And I try to shop early in the day when I have time to go about methodically and ferret out the items from my list. I hate being in a rush or shopping in a crowded store!
I got VERY lucky when I found laundry liquid in a super deeply discounted clearance area in Walmart recently and stocked up. I found 2 bottles of clean cult for $1 and 10 cents each in refill size along with the glass storage bottle also for $1 each- if bought for regular price they could have been as high as $9/carton. I also found hex detergent for $1/bottle in the same section and bought 2! I have enough laundry liquid for the next probably 18 months for less than $5!
At my favorite grocery store, if you are a senior citizen and shop on a Thursday you get a 5% discount on each item. If you spend $100 then you get $5 off. Every little bit helps. Over 52 weeks that adds up.
I always get a receipt just in case the store has made an error. I have a local shopping center (mall) which has two grocery stores that I visit and both have a store card and or memberships (either free or paid for versions to get extra discounts or freebies) I have one paid for membership (cards) and two free ones to the stores. Both of these grocery stores have cash back if you hit 2000 points which equals to $10 back or you can save up the cash for a larger amount.
We hunt in Aldi for discount meat stickers, and we use Flashfood app to get great deals on short date items. Last week it was lettuce, celery, apples, oranges, cod filets, cottage cheese, yogurt and fat free milk. But I had plans for it all to be used or preserved shortly. So no waste, great deal.
It just becomes part of the challenge. Got a great deal on grass fed skirt steak (so many uses) just by checking the app. You are right about receipts, get them, there is more than one reason to do so. Keep up the good work!
I hate having to play these games with the supermarkets. These games they are playing leave out a whole segment of the truly poor the people that need the reductions the most. They don't have cell phones, don't understand aps, the ones we have in the U.S. you have to link your bank to. Ibotta is one that gives you cash back which is all well and good if you give another company access to your account. I already have two bank accounts due to selling online, one for online selling and one personal, the bank accounts are not linked, now will I need another one just to have a couple of dollars go in a month. I know the corporations are gleaming information about us off of every usage but, really how much do they need? I have just gotten so ticked off that I'm not shopping as much as I did before. We have changed the way we are eating and what we are eating. The government is fibbing saying the economy is getting better and yet the prices in the stores don't reflect that.
We don’t have a smart phone nor do we pay our bills online. We refuse to give our bank numbers out. So, we shop the sales, use the online coupons that don’t need a phone and look for the markdowns. And, we pay more, sometimes. That’s just how it is. We ALL can’t get EVERY deal out there. Plus, my husband and i will sit in line at the food pantries and get food for people who can’t go. Sometimes, when i see a huge markdown on something, i’ll grab what i can and pass it around to several people who i know can use it. I’ll bake brownies and drop a plate on porches. Community is important, too.
Everyone poor person can get a smartphone for free or as low as $5 a month in the US. The major savings/rebate apps allow you to link the app to your store savings card, it becomes automatic. Easy-peasy! I live in the USA in the 5th most expensive city in the US. There is an abundance of stores vs areas that are food deserts and I have a car. I can easily feed a family of 4 varied nutrient dense food (meat everyday) for $55-$60 a week. I rarely use Ibotta but pic receipts for Fetch and Receipt Hog. I get maybe $150-$200 back a year. Though I shop 2-4 stores a week, grocery shopping only takes 1hr a week. I take advantage of sales and keep a pantry of 3-4 months to take advantage of the lowest prices. Ex. This week chicken quarters $0.59lb, this sale happens every 3-4 months. My goal is to spend $2-$4 a meal. Breakfast $1.75, Lunch $2, Dinner $2.50-$4. My total cost is $6.25-$7.75 a day. Ex. Dinner Meat $0.75-$1, carbs $0.50-$1, vegetables $1-$1.25=$22.25-$3.25. Fruit with breakfast and snack. Meat - chicken $0.59lb, ham $0.62lb, $turkey $0.63lb, hamburger $2-$3lb, fish $3lb.
Agreed. I have found over the last two years I do better without all that. In the long run my information is more important. Cooking from scratch at home and stocking up everything.. you don’t miss those apps and games. And you’re right about the cell phones etc and leaving some out (even with a cell, it’s still tough) here in the U.S. I used to love the coupons and apps.. now I love the peace and free time and feeling more secure with privacy.
I wait til Target runs deals then shop. Here in my area people aren’t doing a lot of pick up or click and collect so Target offers $15 off your grocery order if you use pickup. They also run deals where if you buy $50 of household goods they’ll send you a $15 e gift card (and no they don’t raise the prices on the items. Last time the household goods were all 15% off😮). If you order in the app you get rewards points (knocks off a buck or two) and they let you use manufacturers coupons (last time I got $2 off my toilet paper)
My supermarket spending is now so low I don't get a lot of vouchers back but I mainly use Tesco as it gives me the most back. So far since 1st Jan I've accumulated £4.50 of vouchers plus I get Clubcard prices on certain items. I also use my M&S credit card to pay for everything (food, vet, fuel etc) as I get vouchers back. I pay off my bill every month. Each quarter I get between £5 and £10 back to spend in M&S. I treat looking for supermarket bargains as one of my hobbies as it takes time and effort to save money 🙂
Thanks both for todays great vlog. Love watching what bargains you picked up.. We have the lidl App both in the UK and France 🇫🇷 On our next visit out I think we should get the Super U one aswell. It's our nearest supermarket to our village.. didn't even know you had vouchers on the bottom of your receipts 🙈🙈🙈!!! Thanks for the tips guys !!!😊😊😊
We're also in the US and deals and cash back offers are pretty slim. We do have the apps and watch for any special sales. Most of the time Aldi or Sam's are the lowest prices, and they do not accept coupons. It really is like having another part-time job to track down the best prices, but I love a good bargain and carefully compare prices.
I try to use the double points vouchers when they come around with extra points vouchers. Did this just before Christmas and got loads of points. Also the 3 for 2 deals or 3 for £5 especially when it’s things that will store.
Good evening. You did really well. I like how various food you pick up when you shop. Well,I think we all know the promo items in advance. They distribute even the paper catalogue for next weeks. So everybody knows. And for some items you really have to be ultra fast to get it. Gone literally for hours, crazy. I like how you are not paranoid to register and use those cards. Many people are freaking out about data selling and etc,but if you ask me,those who deal with data already know all about everyone anyway, got in in another way. However, back to the food- great shopping- thoughtful. 3 free t.paper packs with points, super. The % off from the receipt-who wouldn't use it and why not?! You are definitely doing great with your shopping. Thanks for sharing. We like to see. It's a mutual joy. P.S. Nice blouse color. Soft and suits you.
I live in Central Oregon. We don't know the ads in advance. We used to get an ad in the newspaper. But now it comes in the mail. Often we don't receive the advertisement until Friday and the ad started on the previous Wednesday. However it is on line on a Wednesday.
Hi Jane and Mike. here in South Africa, our store cards don't give us much of a deal, it hardly pays for a loaf of bread. sometimes we get buy 2 get one free on toiletries, but in each case these items are very expensive so don't do it that often.
I have apps for some of the stores I shop at. Three of the stores I visit (not as often) have advertising apps but do not use digital coupons. I find it overwhelming when I use the apps to search for what I want. It's a real pain i can do without.
Thanks for all of the great tips. I tried to get a recipe from your website earlier today and the recipe page is not there. Are you still offering? I thought you might be working on the page, hence why it's offline? Thanks so much for all of your videos and the hard work you both do to provide everything that you do.
I live in The Netherlands and have an app on my iPad with all the discount leaflets for all the supermarkets in my area as well as all the other kind of stores. This way I can see what is on offer if I need something and all without having to give a shop my personal information. I do know that you can get special deals with the store apps but that means giving them my personal information and I don’t want to do that.
American here, who has been traveling in the Netherlands the last 3 summers. The tellers would ask if I had a loyalty card, when I said no they scanned their own. I got the instant discount, I was looking for those, and I assumed they got some points or something. I took that as a win win.
@@MelissaPhillips-nj5sb We do have anonymous cards that gives a discount on some things. We don’t have to give any information to get the cards if we don’t want to and can still use the cards.
Yes, we get cash back on cards from Food Lion and Harris Teeter in NC. It is applied to your receipt. We get gas points on the credit card at Harris Teeter. You can earn up to $1 off per gallon during a month. You get 10 cents off for each $100 you spend in a month.
Thank you for another great video,I had a question,do you keep an account of what you purchase each shopping trip ,with the items and their cost?I have been thinking of beginning to do that,I certainly will help to track the cost of items.
Lidl give digital vouchers, which are hit and miss! No mention of save the change, which I use as hol spending money, as family abroad, approx £300 a year, just me ( cat at home). I buy all my eco cleaning via health food shop or online, soapnuts are very, very cheap for lightly soiled laundry, and gets deals on dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, and the like. I have food surpluses in fridge, which get used up, when needed, always, eggs, cheese and cold meat
