Nanoha will always be my favorite magical girl anime - by far. Great characters and plots - miles above the rest, and fantastic action and soundtrack. You can't go wrong with Nanoha. Artwork is phenomenal. Nothing comes close.
I'm not sure what I loved more about Lyrical Nanoha, the characters, or the fact that it's a very rare show that combined AI's and magic in one awesome harmony.

Well, it is 'cause we have anime, movies, spin-off, cross-overs, etc
it's because of licensing hell so Nanoha isn't popular outside Japan. In Japan, it's still pretty famous.
