11 years on and JJ has done it all. Dudes a legend. Loved watching this. The mongoose chance was next level!
he is an artist through and through==from his vision for his home to his photography (loved those bicycles) to ,obviously(holy f*!k, those airs), his surfing. the thing that always strikes me about him, which is so rare, is that he just comes across as so totally into the moment==into what he is saying or doing. not about ego or having a certain presentation or even awareness of being filmed. like a kid just into his sand castle. as i said, a true artist.

I feel like Im the only vice fan who knew who John John was before watching this...this kid rips in case you didnt know and has been since he was like 10. He beats the best in the world to make his living. Hasnt won a title yet but within the next 7 years he will.

Dazz RL ya but he’s living the 1% not all people from the north shore living like this. Especially the less fortunate ones that have had family there for longer than the Florence family. This looks good because he’s literally living the best surfer life you can. Doesn’t have to worry about money.

They're probably subconsciously jealous of him because he is good at most things he does. Not to mention the fame, future wealth, and attention especially from the ladies. All you can do is be happy for others, and aspire to be similar, or just ignore them if you don't liken how they are.

I used to live on Oahu, Hawaii beautiful place. Been on the North Shore plenty of times those houses are not cheap! I wish I could move back but I can't afford to live there :(
taogarrett Oahu definitely can be beautiful especially any part outside Honolulu. I went for the first time to Oahu this year and after 3 days got tired of downtown. Besides the tourists (I consider myself a traveler/adventurer, not a tourist. I am from Europe), too many homeless people. Years back they were all over the island someone told me, and probably many live in the forest, but downtown is just dirty and infested with shit. My favourite part so far is around Waimanalo bay. Peaceful, beautiful and not too many tourists, except for wealthy Japanese who rent summer houses.
Should also make more bids like this. Skating, surfing, etc.
We need an update and house tour. Lets see how the house has come along!

John John is an incredible surfer but I can not believe the idiot at the start who tries to say he is as good as him, worse he also says he could be better; talk about rose tinted Hawaiian glasses. Kelly won his first title at age 20, started a 5 title win streak at age 22, John John is still not quite there competing for one yet, while Kelly at age 38 is still ahead of him. Now Medina is a more realistic shot at being compared to Kelly, a more complete surfer than John John as it stands, but still will anyone come close to Kelly's feats? Highly unlikely.
Gabe is a jerky boy. His surfing seems contrived. JJ has style.... I prefer watching JJ at high performance spots.

I think its because John is more of a free surfer and he is a big wave rider, medina doesnt ride big waves, thats why they compare him to Kelly. When the waves are small Medina shreds but when its big he doesnt show up

At the end of the day maybe he just lacks the drive and instinct for competition, like Dane Reynolds. If he wants to go chase big waves and 'free surf' he can leave the tour any time he wants, but of course the $$$ are too sweet which means sponsorship obligations.
