    I broke my nail 2 weeks ago and did a teabag repair with dip base and covered in clear activated it then sealed it in builder gel for stronger protection then dipped over it all in colour my nail was thick AF but it saved my nail!

Can you do no cure gel top coat on this and when you soak off the dip will you wreak your overlay? Thanks again for the video!

    Thanks for explaining this. I saw someone else do this and wanted to give it a try with a peel base. I didn't know that acrylic absorbs. It's so difficult to remove everything and I have super thin nails. The last time I did a removal I ruined my natural nails. So thanks.

    You know Marla, I always learn something from you. My tip for today was how you match up your nails to make sure the lengths are equal on both hands. Simply check by putting them together at the knuckle. I always struggle with that, but now I have a new technique. Thanks as always for sharing your expertise.

    Dont know if you look for comments in your older videos but thought I'd ask just in case. When using base to adhere your tips what cures that base coat if the activator is on the extention? It doesn't penetrate the plastic tip I wouldn't think. I have some BTartbox extensions i want to use and Im battling in my head just what to use for adhesion. Ahhh, making me crazy. ( which doesnt take much). Thanks and im hoping you find this.😊

    • @MarlaKris
      @MarlaKris  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So, dip base is basically super glue. It’s air dry. Powder makes it hard for it to cure so that’s where the activator comes in! But to attach extensions, the base/glue will just dry on its own 💞

    • @msjenaay7994
      @msjenaay7994 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, I started using dip (which isnt really a dip but more of a brush/tub on powder). The base is cured in a light but its not referred to as gel even tho there is no activator?? Its making my learning get all discombobulated. Anyway, thank you so much. I am having anxiety about putting glue on my nails and have only gel in a bottle. I have had trouble keeping tips on but with your tutorials im hoping... Thanks again. Your videos have spoiled me i just cant listen for long to anyone else. love this video Sis! Just recently found you. I’m enjoying your videos. Adore how you try to respond to MOST comments. Love your style, voice, humor, and teaching methods. On dip liquids that have brush saver, do we just dip our bushes in the bottle when we are ALL DONE with a mani OR during the mani process do we randomly put like the bond brush in the saver????
    I know we are supposed to OCD wipe bond brush on paper towel or lint free wipe but I cannot find a video of yours OR anyones about utilizing brush saver liquid. I’m doing my first DIY dip on my bday 5/27 and I’d like to not murder my brushes my first time.

    Is it possible to apply tips on top of an overlay? Of so how would I do it and do u recommend applying the tips ontop of an overlay or , applying tips to natural nail then apply the overlay? I am trying to see the best way to do it if I'm wanting to grow out my nails and still be able to use tips until my natural nails grow out.

    • @MarlaKris
      @MarlaKris  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I probably wouldn’t - I’d apply tips first and then build over top. Tips over an overlay will be tough to adhere and may sit funny over the nail

    Thank you. I barely did one nail because it broke and went by their advice of using a glass cuticle pusher and not roughing the nail up and just use the base as the adhesion omg lifting in less than two days. I have to use an electric file to do cuticle work and need to have the nail roughed up to adhere. I didn’t use as rough as a grit though. So I’ll see how long it last on me. Side note I have literally thick cuticle that adheres and grows up just nail plate. I should have known a glass cuticle pusher wouldn’t do anything. Thank you for sharing this

    Hi!!!! 🙋🏼‍♀️ future nail tech here currently in school and almost finished!!! To follow up with you said about what grit to use on the natural nail you should never use anything under 240 on the natural nail because the nail is fragile and can easily be damaged with anything lower than a 240. 180 is still too aggressive to use on the nail. I hope this helps 😊

    • @MarlaKris
      @MarlaKris  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s so crazy bc I hear other nail techs and instructors say 240 is too fine and won’t help adhesion. I heard on youtuber (a pro tech) say to use a 100 grit on the natural nail!! I guess everyone teaches differently 🤷🏼‍♀️ thanks so much for your insight!

    • @amberallen5830
      @amberallen5830 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarlaKris i would agree when saying we are all taught differently! I have been taught you don’t want to use anything lower than 240 on the natural nail because it can cause your nail to split and be brittle if you over file the nail with a grit to strong. However each person is different and you know what works for you and that’s all that matters!

      Acrylic doesn’t contain HEMA. Nor does the resin dip liquid. It’s the gel that can contain HEMA. . Anytime I have to use a gel product, I’ll reach out the the company and request a MSDS (manufacturer safety data sheet) which will tell me what’s in the gel (if it contains HEMA)

      @@SuperGlitterific if you want the dip to last (not chip or pop off) yes, you’ll want to rough it up some. These products don’t adhere well to anything shiny - natural nails or overlays.

    I like this video. I just wish I could get the hang of dipping! Btw, I did send you an email back when you told me to email you a couple of weeks ago. But haven’t heard back from you. So I’m not sure if I typed it in right. lol. But it would tell me if it was an invalid email address. So idk. Maybe you missed it? I sent you a couple of pix too!

    U make them look so natural. The few times I've tried dip they're turned out fat lol

      Ahh.. that’s why I exaggerate the shape slightly. They always get wide when you add dip over top

      Doing my nails in any way, takes me DAYS. 😂 I just take my time. I have so much to do, and it’s hard for me to stay focused on one thing for a while. I get frustrated. I haven’t been able to get dipping down. Idk if it’s my products or what. But it won’t work! I go to apply the activator and it’s still sticky! Like, the last time I did it, was probably over a year ago when I tried it. And the nail (I was practicing on false nails) is literally still sticky. I have modelones system, but the activator is by EO. Thing is, even before the activator, it should’ve dried right? It didn’t. So idk what I did wrong. I try all these things like stamping too, and stamping? OMG. It makes me literally cry because I have tried every single method of using a stamper, I’ve used two different stampers. I have the maniology kit so it’s a good system. I’m just good at making glitter mixes. I’m not good at even applying extensions of any kind. They look nice when I’m done, but it takes me forever because I find every flaw and have to fix them. OCD. The worst part for me is the cuticle area. I’ll ALWAYS have lifting. I can swear to you that I prep my nails very well! I use good products! But I’m going wrong somewhere. I need someone to help me lol

      Same here. Taking product off is the worst. Found a different technique for next time, so hoping to cut down time. I love the way my nails look afterwards. I think for me I just need more practice. The filing is very time consuming.

    With the gel top coat you don't have to use a lamp..?

      Yes ma’am but you don’t have to use gel - you can use dip top instead! Anything glossy.
