In the first of a two-part two-model custom commission series of videos, I take on the Matchbox 71C Ford Heavy Wreck Truck. TH-cam Member JC Hayes got in touch asking for a pair of Fords both in a Union 76 livery. He wanted a tow truck and a van, and with this being my only wrecker in stock I put it to JC, he was happy, and we went from there!
The Heavy Wrecker was in the Matchbox range between 1968 and 1972, joining the Superfast series for two years in 1970. It reappeared in the latter stages of the 70s in the Two Pack series in olive drab as well as a short run blue version especially for Tesco.
The casting is based on a 1963-1969 Ford N Series tandem axle truck, a short nosed (and short lived) medium to heavy duty alternative to their cabover H Series. Its stubby nose still allowed for it to fall within the US maximum truck length legislation of the time.
The Union 76 livery is typically a mix of orange, blue and white reflecting the 76 logo. Union 76 (now 76) are a brand of gas stations in the US now owned by Phillips 66.
I will be releasing the second part on Tuesday 13 June so be sure to tune in for that!

You’re welcome JC!
Looks fantastic Jason.
That looks outstanding 👌
Very nice that is one of my fav castings. Can’t wait for the lil Brother on Tuesday👍👍👍👍👍
Nice build, details and paint job 👌 👍
Great work Jason! The model really looks the part of a Union 76 Wrecker. Thanks for sharing this.
The ford toe truck model was always a nice looking chunky looking model 👌 even in the original red and white , and it made a nice custom repaint .
Looks lovely. The colour scheme is beautiful. The green window piece looks particularly nice against the orange.
Stunning model , he should be very happy your work is outstanding. Thank you for this video, and looking forward to the next 1 to match

looks great, interesting colour scheme. :) I'd like to see more customs like these, based on old MBs and such. especially british trucks seem to have tended towards colourful and decorated. I think one can do it with the more frequent models without destroying anything too valuable.
I also was never aware how incredibly big the original trucks were. obviously MB adjusted scale to the wheels' size, coming up with a MIni being bigger than a chevy Impala... XD
Nice work! Personal preference would be to leave of panel lines or just use accent for those. Just being picky. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent restoration looks amazing well done 👍.
Turned out really well!
Amazing work Jason
The wheels were a good choice. They work with the model.
