Some people say the Type 1 diabetic is off while the others say it's spot on(I know one that says it's spot on and she appreciates the representation of it on film). The same way with the marines' life. Some real marines said it's exactly like that(including how some of them spoke), some say it's not. Thing is, they have a specialist on set and a real type 1 diabetic(Riley) in the cast. And they both approved of it. The take away is, you can never please everyone. But the most important thing that Sofia really wanted that actually happened is that FINALLY Type 1 diabetes has a representation in mainstream films. AWARENESS on both T1D and bad healthcare systems in the US were spread. Also, btw, Nick did extensive research and was interacting with real Pendleton marines during the filming. So saying that is like invalidating his efforts and the the approval they got from the marines itself. Finally, it's just a movie, super low budget at that. Which apparently blew up thanks to Nick and Sofia's beautiful chemistry plus heartwarming songs that moved people.
