Never fails to make my eyes water from hearing this song. My mom used to play the record all the time when I was a kid. Morissette did a great job in bringing back those "memories". You're right, I like this version even more than Barbra's to be honest.
You may need to go to the Philippines to see Morissette in a big stage with a full band or orchestra backing her. She goes on tour here in the US but they are usually smaller venues with programmed accompanying tracks. You may get lucky to see her here in the US with a 4 or 5-piece band but they are few and far between and really depends on the producer.

When you hear Morissette sing, it brings calmness and clarity. She is a ray of sunlight that pierces your heart❤️ her low tone so moving and her high tone is so crisp. I think she sang in her chest voice all throughout. So beautiful.

Mynion, you appear to be about my age and we probably were exposed to the same singers. I too loved Barbara Streisand, Whitney, Tom Jones and Neil Diamond...etc. Morissette is a better story teller, better range and conveys so much emotion in the appropriate places. Emotionally, Neil Diamond, Hot August Night songs really touched me. However, some of Morissette's songs have made me cry. As a Christian now for 43 years and knowing Morissette has been a young Christian, 3 yrs., Messiah and Jesus Take The Wheel, are songs that are very personal because of my life's experiences and crying was inevitable. Morissette takes you to whatever story her song requires her to go there and with those 2 songs she lived those stories and swept me there as well as reliving my encounter with my Savior and 2 ocasiones where I too let go of the wheel and God miraculously saved me from 2 potentially horrific accidents and safely guided me. Black ice is very dangerous. Morissette has so much depth and her voice is angelic and she appears to be a terrific human being. Enjoy your comments & reactions, thanks.
A beautiful version however I can't say it topped Babs's. Mori has slain a lot of singers songs but she just doesn't have the fullness and depth Barbara has in the lower registers. Still a worthy effort, comparable but not surpassing.
Understand where you are coming from, Fred. Barbara's style is just different. There is a home in my heart for the original that will never be invaded, because they are tied to memories of my mother. That being said, this is the best cover I've heard, and it was via a live stream. If this were in the studio I'm sure she could nail a version with as much fullness and depth. Babs is my #3 of all time, but there are some things Mori can do with her voice that is simply amazing.
