- 25 अक्टूबर, 1980 को साहिर लुधियानवी इस दुनिया को अलविदा कह गए थे, लेकिन उनके लिखे गीत दुनिया को हमेशा जीने का सलीक़ा सिखाते रहेंगे। साहिर लुधियानवी का नाम एक ऐसे गीतकार के रूप में हमेशा अदब से लिया जाता रहेगा, जिन्होंने फिल्मी को मयार बख़्शा था। गीत, गज़लें, नज़्में, कव्वाली, भजन, ऐसे जाने कितने ही भावों को साहिर ने अपने जादुई शब्द दिए। बात चाहे युद्ध की हो या शांति की हो, बच्चों के तराने हों या ख़ुशी के गीत, ग़म के नग़में हों या रोमानी शायरी, किसानों की समस्याएं हों या तवायफ़ों की सिसकियां, ऐसा कौन सा विषय है, जिसे साहिर की कलम ने अछूता छोड़ दिया हो। समंदर की लहरें गिनना नामुमकिन होता है, साहिर की याद को भी समेटना नामुमकिन है। फिर भी ‘द वायर’ पर ‘हिंदी की बिंदी’ उनकी कुछ यादें ताज़ा कर रही है, गौहर रज़ा साहब के साथ। गौहर रज़ा ख़ुद भी मक़बूल शख़्सियत के मालिक हैं, वे जाने-माने वैज्ञानिक हैं, कलमकार हैं, फिल्म निर्माता हैं और सामाजिक साहित्यकारों से जुड़े हुए हैं।

Kissi bhi gaane ki jaan uske lyrics hote hai. .Shair is an architect on which whole song stands. Music ,singers can only add decoration.. Any time ,when you listen a song and it clicks you.. You want to know ,who wrote it ? Har shair ke gaane bolte hai par Sahir sahib ke gaane kuch bahut zyada hobby hote hai. (sir chadh kar bolte hai) .Once you listen his song ,it compels you to keep on thinking about the song and an angle .Even Lata said in an interview and she only talked about Sahir sahib "Aap gaana ga kar chale jato ho ,par gaana aap ko sochane par majboor karta rehta hai". A wonderful discussion on Sahir sahib.

Coming from an older generation... this is so nostalgic.. nose-tickling nostalgic.. Doordarshan Redux, I guess, one should call it.. Well meaning, but heck, the same old boring way of conducting an interview.. very nice, very nice, indeed.. for oldies like me.. just so morons like us who missed Doordarshan, as opposed to the crass DD, can simper and whimper about how golden the old days were.. very nice.. I revere Gauhar.. but this Hindi ka Bhindi or Baingan is beyond belief in this day and age.

Gauhar Raza Ssheb is a very respected name, that is why it pains to hear him quote totally incorrect episodes about a legendary poet/lyricist Sahir, who would remain as respectable as he is even without being shown as having revolted against a legendary composer like S D Burman by first refusing to write lyrics on tunes given by him, a system which was initiated by Burman Dada only, and then refusing to write for him because Burman Dada claimed that his music is greater than Sahir's poetry. First of all it is unimaginable that an universally respected and honouable person like S D Burman could ever have made such a claim ! Moreover, the facts are that 1. Sahir was writing songs on tunes given by Burman Dada even in 'Pyasa' which became their last film together, though two nazms in the film, 'Jinhen naaz hai' had already been written before Sahir joined the film industry and was included in the 'Pyasa' as it suited the sequence in the film and the tune for 'Jinhen naaz hai' was made after he wrote the nazm, because by then this claim by Sahir had already spoiled the relations between them. The real reason for the tiff was actually Sahir's boastful claim that music had almost no role to play in the popularity of the songs written by him. It was then Burman Dada who refused to work with him . It is to be noted that Sahir made his decut in a film with S D Burman as its composer. Just after that O P Nayyar, and later Jaidev also stopped working with him. It is well known that Sahir had to work only with the likes of Ravi and N Dutta or a few films with Roshan, and Khayyam Saheb etc., as top composers like Naushad Saheb, Shankar Jaikishan, Salil Choudhary, Madan Mohan, apart from S D Burman, O P Nayyar and Jaidev never worked with him thereafter. It is a well known fact that the producer/directors continued working with Burman Da or Nayyar Saheb while Sahir had to leave those banners.
These facts only prove that even a genius like Sahir could also have some negative traits to his personality. My request to such honourable personalities like Gauhar Raza Saheb is to please double check the facts presented by their research teams before presenting them in their writing or in such interviews, because their word is likely to be taken as a historical fact.
Gauhar sir, I heard that this feud with SD Burman and Sahir also extended to the shoot of Pyaasa.. where they both were miffed with each other.. and they had to be brought back together by the intervention of Dev Anand and Guru Dutt, both of whom respected them immensely and were respected immensely in return. Such were the "Characters" of our industry in those days.. and I mean it in the sense of great respect for individualism, even if it bordered on arrogance.. and rightly so because they were each masters of their field. A pity that we do not have such 'characters' anymore except for shrieking, attention-seeking mediocrities.
If you really want to talk about farmers, backward class, socially oppressed people then read the poetry written by the great lyricist of bollywood shailendra ji.
