Yes.... well said !! When after a number of years listen to this music I realized lyle was the composer who created the deep feeling of power or uplifting joy or expansive raw univeral energy when in nature. Lyle made the music human where I could feel all thoughts feeling that I love the sun on my skin the water so vast and alive with possibilities. Pat and lyle created the magic or juju incredible improvisational music 🎶 that opened up the soul that has no boundaries ..... Their music is living within my body-mind thank you ...Pat and lyle
Upon seeing your profile picture my day just improved exponentially, what an angel you are, god bless, I can sense your as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside, sending love and blessings.
A few years ago I was out and about driving in a mall parking lot and came to a stop sign. This woman had to stop too; she was driving a convertible with the top down. I heard her music, we were playing the exact same track, same PM CD same time. I stopped and told her to listen to my CD. I'll never forget that on a beautiful summer Pat Metheny day. We both got a laugh and talked about PM and tours and shows that we had been to. Sometimes friendships last just a few minutes over a common interest.
This is a question, sometimes enyoing great music, ask myself: How many people round the globe would've been listening the same song at the same time? But you fellow broke any statistics. Cheers
He rocked the Berlin Philharmonie sometime in the mid 80's, a huge venue. I was gobsmacked and have been hooked ever since. Musical magic. If I had to choose 1 artist to listen to for the rest of time it would be him, no doubt. He plays Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Thursday 10.5.23.
Had the pleasure of watching Metheny and the fellas live once in late '02 at the Ohio Theater in Columbus, a restored baroque architecture venue where the acoustics are quite good. Holy crap- was on the edge of my seat almost the entire concert- even my buddy noticed...those memeories cannot be taken away. One of the best concerts in my life.
Live At The Great American Music Hall, San Francisco 1977. August 31, 1977... second set was free... remember seeing Lyle Mays in the lobby phone booth asking folks to come on down... saw the second set free as there weren't enough folks to fill the hall... can you imagine that now? These guys were amazing then. RIP Lyle. An amazing artist. Truly amazing keyboardist. Truly creative.
Gee! Pat Metheny just never ceases to please and delight, no matter how many times I have listened to the same Metheny songs over and over and over, they never cease to amaze me, I always find something new in the song. Excellent!
This along with other Metheny tracks always conjures images of travelling across beautiful lakes, spectacular mountain ranges and vast great plains of America..... Stunning
the sound track of my travels all over the planet Pat and Lyle have been there made nature more rich color and movement and if I am waiting for long periods pat and lyle are there thank you
One of the overlooked aspects to Metheny's writing, as well as his longstanding collaborative work with Mays, is just how successful he's always been at creating music that sounds completely effortless, despite being considerably more detailed under the sheets.
I think that comes about because Metheny, I truly believe, LIVES the guitar. The guy probably practices and practices, nonstop. When he DOESN'T have an instrument on his neck, he probably feels truly uncomfortable. Practice, practice, practice... Do a show, then practice some more. Guy probably has practiced all night before, then does a show, practice, stay up all night, practice...
I have listened to countless artists and bands over the years but PMG and Steely Dan are the only ones I can listen over and over again till I’m death. Any other suggestions? I guess fourplay is pretty good too, but doesn’t come close to these two.
When this astounding album came out, I listened to it all the way through when I got home from work for a year at least. NOTHING makes the world go away like Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays. nothing.
Thanks Pat and Lyle for such great compositions that transport us the way music does...your stuff resonates to the bone marrow. And, 40 years on, hearing all this sound brings back sweet memories. You're the best!
I remember Pat Metheny Unity Group played this track a couple of years ago in London during the Kin (←→) tour and i'll never forget hearing those opening bars made the entire audience cheer really loud, it had been a really long time since i had seen this song get played live and it was really nice to hear it again. I consider 'Have You Heard' one of PMG's greatest pieces ever.
Amazing. I don't remember what year this was from, but I do remember that the first time I heard this was in my mid-teens and I was tired of all the modern pop crap so I switched to a station playing "smooth jazz" and heard Pat Metheny Group for my first time. Just like when I was a teen, I find myself becoming "mindless", aware of nothing but the experience of the happiness that the music stirs within me.
Hi Pat Letter From Home is a beauty that only a beautiful Sunday morning has, I would like to congratulate you of this beautiful work is, and how much makes us happy. Sometimes I put the CD in the car and I get to listen 2, 3 months later, that the light always conspire in your favor hug.
Pat at his notiest and pickiest. The whole album is full of technique-heavy solos that flow fast and breezy like this, one of Pat’s many styles and one we didn’t hear quite as much beyond this record. I think if it as Pat’s answer to the guitar shredder movement of the day. Fun (for him) for a while at least.
This song has to have one of the top lead solos of all time. I mean it just fits like a rolling stream in it's bed.........My Pat Metheny CD's rule my life, not the RCC.
Paul Wertico...thank you and your Amazing Hands, and of course yours Paiste ...more partucular ...and expensive cymbals in the world...but i play Sabian
Totally!!! I'm terrified of flying in small planes, even though I've done it before. I'm even more terrified of flying in a military aircraft, and my Trigeminal Neuralgia would not allow me to do it. Still, if he were the pilot and I the passenger, especially if I had to be transported to the ER, and the PMG were the team, I'd have to trust, because I'd have the best! I know that sounds funny, but this music puts me in a place where I'd just find myself letting go of my inhibitions. It has a way of doing that, and I've been a huge fan since 1982. "Offramp" was just released, and I already had heard "American Garage" and "Bright Sized Life". I was hooked, especially when I heard "Amelia" with Joni Mitchell and him on "Miles of Aisles."
My uncle and I used to listen to this for hours while we were painting and making art. I will forever remember those moments. Rest in peace Rudy.
Those are the moments that make a life. Never be sad. Be grateful. Cheers!!
RIP Rudy 🙏❤
beautiful. thanks for sharing that
it's so magical... that's the sound my father put on the videos that he made on his travel to usa many years ago and since then captivated by them
Lyle Mays's piano playing was nothing short of genius. Happy I had the chance to experience it.
Me too. Was lucky enough to see the PMG 3 times.

They have touched us in profound ways

Me too, I think I've seen PMG half a dozen times. Geniuses all!!

Metheny's melodies are simple, beautiful, memorable, and complex all at the same time.
That's the key.
As much as I’ve always loved Pat Metheny’s music, I think that Pedro Aznar is the star in all his tracks. I’m always amazed by his vocal prowess.
Yes same! I love the groove he offers to their songs! ❤
check out his recently live youtube streamings
Pitch perfect and beautiful intonation major player in the rare mix
i totally agree it is amazing
Thank you for stating this!

You said it!
I got to see them at Red Rocks Ampitheater (or ampitheatre depending on how pretentious I am feeling - LOL). Phenominal.
Pat Metheny and Earth Wind & Fire are the bands I've seen more than any other!
Pat Metheny's music kicks much ass! I really got into him during the 80s! I love this track!!
Me too!!!!
My Dad played this so much . God forbid anything happens to him , he's all I'll think about If I played this or any of his 80s and 90s work

Interesting comment cuz that's exactly the feeling and image I get when I hear a lot of his music.
I played Metheny while driving all through Italy. It brings me back every time.

Yes!!
This is what I imagine the music in heaven to sound like. The vocals are angelic

Only Pat Metheny and group can do this with this sound..🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
The technique and precision reminds me of Steely Dan. love pat metheny group! :D
I'm also a fan of Steely Dan. Maybe no coincidence :)
Love Steely Dan also. One of my favourites
@@Ali-lw1toc we all got good taste in that case !

@@spacekif16 It's been the same for me too. I wish I could suggest something but nothing comes close!
Eternal music. Without time.
Timeless
I used to jam with Pat back in the day!
Thoes were the days as they say!
When this astounding album came out, I listened to it all the way through when I got home from work for a year at least. NOTHING makes the world go away like Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays. nothing.
More jazz please ❤🎉

warhawkBeyond2040 I was at that gig. Couldn't believe they played it. Was one of those people cheering very loud indeed.
Without a doubt one of his best. The soloing is amazing! I love the Brazilian influence on both "Letter From Home" and "Still Life Talking"
RIP Lyle Mays.
I purchased this CD in 1993.This is the Best tune.Pat Metheny group at it's Best.
Celestial, cerebral jazz at it's best.
Many years ago a close friend asked asked me: what does it felt like to run? I told her to listen to this track...PM is the sound track of my life.
何万回きいてもカッコいい!

don't know how I found pat Metheney but I do remember when. Best summer of my life. Helped transform me. Sometimes I listen just to remember that time
Pedro kills on vocals. R.I.P. Lyle!
How is it physically possible to play guitar like this? True wizardry.
What a great song
Perfect remedy for these times....timeless
We beat this up during the 90's and supported Metheny since the 80s.....
since the 70s for me...
“We beat this up..”
Not before Jaco beat you up first!
Incredible music, i'm bound to this for ever since it came on earth, Thank you Mr Pat Metheny and Mr Lyle Mays.
RIP Lyle
Glad I got to see Pat Metheny live👍
So Refreshing! I've loved this for a mighty long time and still...
Had the pleasure of seeing this band live performance at the Royal Albert Hall.....unforgettable...
Picked this cd up used from the local music store in town for dirt cheap and it was totally worth it.
You got a steal That whole album is worth a listen. I remember I bought that album back in 89 for $6. That was the full price ofor the cassette tape.
Not usually a common thing... to find a used Metheny album.
Most who get a Metheny album keep everything he records.
I love it's vibe.. very 80s and early 90s
This album is so masterful and this song especially.
I felt every note of that guitar solo
bought the jojo ending album for last train home, ended up fallin in love with this absolute masterpiece.

What a great track!!!
PMG in Radio City Music Hall in the late 80's.
I was in heaven.
Pat's guitar play and tone is so progressive and upbeat 😀
Que bueno¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ es el album que me abrió las puertas a otra dimensión musical grande Pat Metheny
Thats the best cymbal work I've ever heard. This song proves the power of the cymbal, case closed.

This album came out in 1989 every song is great
Classic jam from Pat...thanks Julio.🎼🎵🎶
Magistral.
Great music you just don't hear anymore. Jazz is forgotten.
Robert glasper? Joshua Redman? Christian Scott? Branford marsalis?
No we don't, at least on Tv or radio. That's why we've got TH-cam!
I was young in Dakar in the early 90" when I listened for the first time this album
When your a mechanic and the jazz hit the brain. Man I'll build a whole car before the song over with
Have given up trying to pick a favourite, can appreciate them all after a few bars.
Once I heard Eric Johnson's compliment back then in the early '90's who is the best all around guitarist that I've heard, I liked Metheny.

Dunno this piece, but I'm sure by the thousandth listen, I will !!

Excellent list! I'm a big fan of the 'Pedro' Era. I might have also added some Jaco Era stuff and maybe James or Eighteen, but your list is great.
Timeless brilliance !
This is a tune you could use against your fear of flying in an Airplane...
