I am on a month- long trip from Reno, Nevada to the mid- west. The farthest east I got was Two Rivers, Wisconsin. I am in Madison now. Wisconsin has impressed me with beautiful greenery everywhere, polite drivers and lots of things for tourists to see such as the National Mustard Museum, Great Lakes Maritime Museum and botanical gardens in Madison. The summer weather is great, but I am guessing that the winters are not so good. On the negative side many rural and city roads in Wisconsin and Iowa are horrible ( some freeways as well). There sometimes seem to be more patches than original road. All-in-all, I like Wisconsin very much. Oh, I forgot to mention the wonderful cheese.
I've lived every where.... Tennessee, Washington State... California for years, Japan... but Wisconsin has always drawn me back. It's a beautiful place.
Sorry to say, you missed what many of us in So. WI do and that's go up north to northern WI and the U.P. That's where a lot of the beauty is, especially along Lake Superior and all sides of upper Lake Michigan.
As someone from Wisconsin originally you went to the most beautiful area in the state. Bay field has so much to do-even in winter with the ice caves. Next time you go should go over to Madeline island. So amazing
Yeah, Madeline Island is amazing, as a teen with some friends we visited the island several times, much to explore around the island, including secluded tiny towns of unknown origins, and the county beach next to the state park beach is worth several days of camping out. (Don't forget to bring the deep-woods off)
Skiing, snowmobiling, XC skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, hockey season for the kids, hunting, and even a car race out on the ice of Lake Superior. I spent more time out of doors in the fall and winters than I did the rest of the year.
The only time I visited Madeline island was about 30 years ago. It seemed like a lot of old hippies lived there but I loved the vibe. I’ll never forget one house had a sign out front the read “ came here 20 years ago with nothing and still have half of it left” 🤣. Beautiful place though!
Northern Wisconsin is beautiful, I'm in the southern part now. But it's been my home state forever, I love it. Minocqua was once my home, for a year and I wish I could live up north again ❤
I enjoyed the tour of the Northern cities in WI. I have lived in WI for 16 years and have never traveled that far North. There are beautiful homes, quaint downtowns and gorgeous views of Lake Superior. Thank you for bringing the hidden gems of WI into the light!
Thank You for visiting our Great State of Wisconsin! There is a lot to see and experience. People are helpful and nice, and we wish to keep it that way. Hope you spend a lot more time checking into other towns, especially Eagle River, Minoqua area while you're up there. Other places not to miss are Door County, many towns in the Driftless Zone, and stop in to see House on the Rock and its museum in Spring Green! You won't be disappointed!
We will be back to Wisconsin for a more thorough look, most likely next spring. We're trying to get up into New England (where we're heading to now) before winter on this trip. :)
Door County is wonderful. I haven't been there in years. I have heard it has developed, I don't know if that is a good or bad thing. Door County/Egg Harbor as well is total tourist. Many folks from Ill. have "Summer homes" there.
The first of the three houses in Ashland for sale is 804 9th Ave W. Price is $325,000. The second is 810 9th Ave W, and sold on July 17th for $128,000. The third house, 812 9th Ave W, is currently pending at $149,900.
Welcome to Wisconsin! We love sharing our beautiful state with others! Bayfield is definitely a tourist town. Ashland is our favorite town up in that area! We actually have not done much exploring in Iron River! Enjoyed the tours! 💙Terry and Terri
Nice towns. Nice streets. Nice looking houses. Love those neighborhoods with all the big trees providing lots of shade. I could see myself living in these places.
@@thegreatone11 I guess 60° is "brutal" to you? Brutal for me is 5 months of 90+ and humid, it's unlivable for any active person. I live in northern Wisconsin minutes from the UP, and last winter the first snow to stick was a week into January and was gone in a month. We hike year round, and it was very comfortable.
These towns are pristine because the residents take care of their assets and expect their neighbors to do the same. Having been born in Sheboygan county, Wisconsin, I grew up on a farm. Left the home area and have worked in l lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Chicago, Colorado, Charleston, SC, and reside in Dallas for 46 years. The people of Wisconsin are simply outstanding, honest, hard working and reliable. Simply the best, like the way all people should be.
I've been all over the US and northern Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan is one of the most beautiful regions I've ever seen, especially in the fall. The coast along Lake Superior is spectacular, never seen water so blue. One of the more underrated and overshadowed regions of our nation in my opinion.
Welcome to Wisconsin. You will find some amazing places, especially up north there. As far as the A&W, we have over a dozen here in Wisconsin. If you get a chance, try the root beer!
There must be way more than that, just off the top of my head Superior, Iron River, Minong, Siren, Altoona, Phillips, Barron and Baldwin all have one, and all of those are just in the extremely rural northwestern corner of the state.
My wife and I have been to Bayfield several times. We usually go in the fall when the leaves are changing and the numerous apple orchards in the area are harvesting. As you said, it''s a beautiful place, even more so in the fall. The Apostle Islands cruise is well worth looking into.
Washburn is more enjoyable imo, less touristy and there is a bakery/restaurant (cafe coco) which is fantastic. Patsy's bar and grill is a must stop for drinks/burgers.
First time watching. I'm from Wisconsin and lived in Ashland County. Nice to see home. I'm in Alaska now. I don't remember northern Wisconsin being so affluent with well paying jobs. That's one reason why I moved away from northern Wisconsin. I do love it and miss it though.
I wouldn't bet on finding all those well-paying jobs most anywhere in northern Wisconsin. However, the cost of living in general is much more affordable in Northern Wisconsin, just don't try to buy a house or property in Bayfield city unless you are somehow independently wealthy.
The peak 1910 population can be explained by something you saw, but may not have realized, on all the shoreline towns and will see in the UP as well. Ore docks. All the towns have the remains of the now almost water level ore docks jutting out into the lake which were used by the, then huge, labor intensive mining and railroad industries. Look for an old, intact one, when you get to Marquette. They are quite impressive.
These docks were used to load brown stone to be shipped to major cities to make their brown stone buildings. You can find several downtown Bayfield just like Chicago or New York.
True, but also logging. The ore in the Gogebic/Penokee range S and a bit E of Ashland is not easily accessed: they were trying to revive some of it NE of Mellen to near Marengo, or at least exploring it. Ashland used to have three rail lines and a yard on its south side, plus the Soo Line dock on the east (I guess this is now a park, per my lawyer up there) and the old Northwestern docks further east of there past the Wallys on Highway 2. Nice place to eat lunch but tons of gulls!
@@artsteadman2230 Ashland actually tore down the last ore dock years ago. There was a group that wanted to make it a historical landmark (or something similar) to preserve it.
Lake Superior is so clean and beautiful. Always my favorite place. Prices will skyrocket. People from the hotter states with the $$$ are migrating up here . Stay safe and cool. Also you have got to try Culvers. Wisconsin classic.
Thank you for showing off beautiful parts of our state. These videos were taken when Lake Superior was peaceful and calm. But when the weather turns it gets rough. There is a part of US 2 that's right by the shore and 4 lanes. The last time we were there, waves were crashing over all 4 lanes.
A friend from Texas told me he loves the state, but the winters can be brutal! I said yes that is true, but we preserve better! He said that was a warming thought! Lol Thank you Joe and Nic and congrats on another awesome tour! Safe travels!!!
That house you're showing at 6:38 in the vid, with the big tree in the front yard lopped off and capped, and the fancy garden in the next lot to the South... In 2012, that house was a Bed and Breakfast and we stayed there for Father's Day weekend. The owners threw their dinner scraps out onto the lawn to the South side of the house, and the foxes would come eat them. After dark on Saturday night, a mama black bear and her four cubs also wandered up to the house. (Black bears in town are common.) The owners hoped she'd keep on going, so as to be no danger to us tenants. But she got spooked and shimmied up that big tree in the front yard (it hadn't been lopped off, back then) along with her cubs. Also, a fox was still hanging out, looking for more handouts. And every time the bear tried to come down from the tree and then coax her cubs down, the fox would set off the motion sensor yardlight and up the bear would go again. Finally, she felt safe enough to come down and move on. The homeowner's son, who worked at one of the restaurants downtown, would sometimes meet bears while walking home those few blocks. It's just something they live with, up there.
Went to college there in late seventies, it was called Northland College. I saw the first star wars movie at the Bay Theater. Vaughn Street was the the nicest, my frat house was on McArthur, one block away.
Was wondering what Northland was like, I was in Ashland in the mid-'70s for 3 years and miss the town, of course, the economy left something to be desired.
Great video guys, nicely maintained communities where folks have pride in maintaining their properties. A paradise in July and August after that time for the Winter gear. Cheers and safe travels!
The last time I saw a true A&W that wasn't connected to another fast food chain was years ago when we would go to visit my aunt in Milwaukee Wisconsin. It was across the alley right behind her house. Man how I miss the good old days.
Bayfield has a huge Apple Festival in October. People go up there to see the fall colors and attend the festivities. Boating and sailing are the summertime sports along with golf. There's a course on Madeline Island, just a short ferry ride away.
We used to go to the apple festival every year and take home two bushels of apples. Then it got to be more popular and my mother stopped taking us. We loved going to the festival and having all those apples to snack on for the next month.
Hi Joe & Nic from a blustery, wet 16C south London, UK. Yep that Bayfield certainly looks like the kinda place to lay your hat in retirement. Here we have a town called Eastbourne on the south coast that has the nickname "God's waiting room" - it's mainly filled with the old folk!
Love my home state, no matter what city! Clean, beautiful, & stuffed full of friendly people & wonderful places to see & experience! Go Pack! Go Badgers!
Same! Although I remember it being more beautiful as a child, ppl aren't like the ones I knew but I realize that's almost everywhere. I prefer small towns, but we do have a beautiful state.
Welcome to my home away from home!!! Summer and Spring are beautiful, Fall is Outstanding. Winter can be brutal, but if you like snowmobiling or skiing, it's great. In the winter when conditions are right, they drive across the lake to Madeline Island. If you look on Google Maps, it will show Ferry Line across the lake, which is actually County Road H. In the winter that same line becomes the Ice Road.
We have spring here in Wisconsin. Last year it was on a Tuesday 😂. No but seriously, last year (2023) we broke two low temperature records in June. Spring here is generally just more winter minus the below zero temperatures.
@@katherinefuller5267 Spring on a Tuesday last year LMBO good one LoL 😂👍 I love the cold & can't stand heat I'm so glad I was born & still living in Wisconsin 🧀💚💛
A wonderful video, once again. Each of the towns was lovely, with some awesome holiday spots. Lots of gorgeous homes, and beautiful scenery. Lake Superior is amazing. Thanks so much, Joe and Nic, always enjoyable.😊💚
I've visited 39 of the U.S. states and lived in 6, but I've never set foot in Wisconsin. By now it's unlikely I'll ever get there; so many thanks to you for this tour!! This region of Wisconsin looks nice
A beautiful area. The Bayfield peninsula is known for their apple orchards. I wish you would've shown some of the beautiful murals around the city of Ashland. The big white building overlooking the marina is the Hotel Chequamegon. A lot of the big, beautiful homes were built by the lumbar barons and those in the mining and shipping industry in the late 1800's to early 1900's.
A lot of these beautiful huge homes built by logging and mining barrons, are expensive to heat and maintain. A lot are seeing the wrecking ball, unfortunately, yet the new homes are made out of pressed wood chips known as osb,and highly volatile glue is used to bond the chips together! Note I've burned some of this in my wood stove,it burns extremely hot when the glue is fairley new,but weathered osb is hard to burn. Osb=old shitty board you've hot 2 minutes to evacuate your house before it collapses in flames! Or you roast to death!
The murals are great! Unfortunately, the Golden Globe cafe is permanently gone now on Main St. near the city hall, big classic soda fountain greasy spoon, in classic '50 style and I think the unofficial real city hall. It was a fabulous '50 genre down to the employee decorations by their kids. Miss that hunk of the past.
Bayfield is a tourist trap. Washburn is peaceful, has a nice wild park, a good neighborhood restaurant, and a hidden beach tucked away next to the marina. Bayfield is the "metropolis" of the area. Decent town. I try to come up here once or twice a summer, when it gets really hot here in the Twin Cities.
Washburn's motel isn't much better. My son and I did a golf trip after Labor Day last year and paid through the nose for basically a Motel 6 experience. We weren't warned that the scenic Apostle Highlands course would already have its greens "aerated" making them un-puttable. And they still socked us a premium price for playing. Not going back.
If you are into camping Big Rock Campground is just out of town to the northwest on the Sioux River. A smaller river runs on rock all the way out to the bay which is another fun day at the mouth of the Sioux and the bay.
Wisconsin... the state where every weekend the population increases by 50%. People trying to escape the Chicago area and I'm one of them. Love this area.
My great-grandfather, Robert Jeffery, a crew member on the commercial schooner "Lucerne," died in November 1886 in that area on Lake Superior (all 9 crew members & captain perished). The Lucerne encountered a "blinding snowstorm and terrific gale wind" like the one memorialized in "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." An article said it was wrecked on Point Chequamegon on Lake Superior, 12 miles below Ashland. It had left Washburn or Ashland with a cargo of ore, destined for Cleveland, Robert's home. They ID'd him by 2 tattoos: shepherdess with a hook and ballerina!
I also lost a relative in the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan. My g-g-uncle was one of 6 crew members and only 20 years old. One of the crew members threw embers into the wind, landing on hay bales. Totally burnt. It was a small passenger ship from Manitowoc, WI to Waukegan, IL. Only one elderly couple made it to shore. What really gets me is that his parents came to America after they lost their first son as a worker on a North Sea ship. Neither were found. They moved inland after that :-(
I recommend (when you’re ready to leave WI) on your next visit to take the Badger across Lake Michigan. It’s a historic ship that ferries your car across too. Plus Manitawoc is gorgeous, especially the back roads. And near Green Bay
There are a lot of well to do Baby Boomers owning Summer homes in Bayfield, that may be why the income and home values are high. Up in NW Wisconsin, when you get away from Superior's shore, the towns get poorer for sure.
It’s amazing what tourism can do for such a small town like Bayfield! The money made from it allows them to keep downtown well kept and taken care of. They obviously have a city council that cares about the city and knows how to spend their budget very well. Very impressive! Of course, being on Lake Superior certainly helps. So even as far north as Bayfield is, you could argue location does mean everything.
What a treat, to ride along ! Through these United States, of the history and the colorful backgrounds, physically and culturally. I appreciate being informed, and the beauty you share. I am not able to travel myself, and the locations, interesting facts and information you share, are a blessing to me !
It's SO cool to see you over in Wisconsin as I am from Minnesota and have spent a LOT of time in Bayfield as they have what is called "The Apple Festival every first weekend in October and if you thought it was busy when you were there, you and your wife should really try coming back for it, you wouldn't regret it; they have B&B's that you could rent for the entire 4 days of the event and just have a blast! There is SO much to see and do that you would be going back to your B&B exhausted. You MUST take the ferry, at least once, over to the Madeline Island too; it's truly a sight to behold, especially in October when all the leaves are changing. You and your wife should come visit Duluth, during our summer months and get a room in one of our many beautiful Hotels right on Lake Superior in Canal Park, you won't regret it!!!! Anyways, thanks again for touring the State I grew up next door to, it was great to see all the places I have been too in my lifetime!!
No mention of the ferry crossing to Madeline Island. Besides being a tourist town they have a great fishing industry supplying fresh fish to the local restaurants and retail outlets. Fired whitefish livers, yummy. The farthest north US post office in Wisconsin is in Cornucopia north and west of Bayfield.
It's so intersting watching this and seeing the comments from people all over the country. I grew up in Ashland, have family in Washburn, and used to camp in Iron River. I was surprised to see my son's stepdad make a cameo as you drove downtown. I live in Chicago now and make it up as much as I can. Ashland is a great place to grow up and also retire, but there isn't much for people between 25-55.
Nice, you drove right past my guitar shop in Washburn. I am also from Flint, Michigan and watched your video from there. Definitely lots of familiar scenes in that video too. Cool video tour video series!
I'm from the great lakes region; lake Ontario in New York and this is driving me nuts watching your video. I miss the water so much! The cottage was on a bay off of Ontario and the bay was my play ground as a kid. I live in New Sharon Maine now and am land locked. I still look out the window in the morning as I did as a kid but instead of water all I see are trees. You say you could not stand the cold but I can't stand the heat. When we get heat up here (anything over 80F) which is around the fourth of July I stay inside. I go out in the early morning and do my gardening. If you want to visit an interesting area of New York State, the upper part of the state on the St. Lawrence River. My father's ancestry is from Cape Vincent where Ontario dumps into the St Lawrence Sea Way. There is a historical Society there which my fathers last name is on the wall inside as one of the founding families. Cape Vincent has a beautiful light house also. I think the town is now a vacation area. Last time I was there it was very quiet. Lots of old houses many with hip roofs which I understand is from Dutch architecture. The Dutch invaded the state way back when and many people's last names reflect that as do some in my pedigree. I would like to know more about the area also.
I love these videos because you'll see them from today but then you'll go to street view on Google Maps and the images haven't been updated since like 2008 so it's like a literal time capsule!
Another great video Joe. I’m not much of a northern person weather only nothing personal. LoL but those are some really nice towns especially the first one on the lake. You would've loved seeing the towns on the "thumb" of WI. Huge tourist attractions. Rhinelander is a great city too. So many pure and gorgeous lakes up in that area. I'm surprised you didn't' go to Green Bay. Oh well.
You went through so many small little towns on the way over there. Port wing, herbster, cornucopia all of them are the small little towns you were looking. It's all some of the best tourist area in the state. Also by the way cornucopia is the highest town in Wisconsin.

I'd wager for the well-to-do or working ship business that the wintering over and maintenance is probably cheaper in the bay than most if not all lower latitudes.
I lived in Ashland for many years.Bayfield is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth. Summers are glorious. Winters are brutal. Long, dark and cold. Most of the town shuts down for the winter. BTW… you drive right past my home in your drive through the residential streets. 😅
A&W went into receivership in the mid 70's and suspended some if not all their stores or sold some off! They came back in recent years up here in Canada. We had 3 A&W's in Windsor ontario, some in London and probably others! The stores closed up in 74 and stayed closed for several decades! I remember getting served my food by girls on roller skates( they did a good job of it,no spills too often!). I'm surprised to see one in upper Wisconsin, but being that Michigan is next to Ontario,it's not surprising! If they were in the states, I can't say,but I met a man who converted an Ottawa A&W into a motel! TheA&W on Central Ave in Windsor,Ontario, Canada was in operation till about 84! It was the last rollerskate drive for a long time! Thanks for the ride thru Smallville! Also, while I was up in Northern British Columbia, Quesnel ,this village actually has an A&W north of town, and a Walmart, with McDonald's south of town! Good burgers at A&W!
Smoke and Whiskey are a local acoustic band in Iron River, loved their music, great metal covers! Very good bars in town too! Checked out the county fair while visiting friends there. Went tubing in Trego too!
I happened to randomly come across this video and your channel. I love the videos, I added a bunch of them to my watch later playlist. You highlight many of the places most people overlook.
Northern WI is a beautiful area. As you have found, peaceful and quiet and quite the inverse from a major city. The only drawback is Jan, Feb, and March.
Bayfield native here who lived in some of the largest US cities and came back. You won't find many of the things you fear here and many of the things you want here. Keep on keepin' on.
Bayfield reminds me of any New England harbor village, I mean, what's the difference but about 1K miles? I've lived in the area previously, however, a weekend staying at the Old Rittenhouse Inn is still on my bucket list. Reservations there go way out into the future.
Heehee..! I can picture the uploader hitting Google quickly, thinking "What on earth are smelt runs and smelt feeds?" I should've eaten more of them when I was young. YUM! Now I'm too far away :-/
Wonderful video and gorgeous views but no way could I live in the cold. Way to much snow, ice, and cold. Brrr. I was born and raised in Florida and now in north Georgia. I would not like the cold. But in the summertime it looks wonderful.
As someone who has a house in Wisconsin, Key West and Delray Beach I can tell you that Wisconsin by far has the better people from Florida. It also has the best summers and falls in America. I live in Key West only in the Winter months.
Just moved back to my home state, so I thank you for showing me some parts of the State that I might - or might not - ever get to see for myself. Though Bayfield is quite a northern beauty, a place I may need to make a beeline toward! ❤

People are not nice in our state like they used to be. In fact, you will find many friendlier states in America. Wisconsin is pretty judgmental too.
Especially Ashland, most unfriendly town in Wisconsin.
Door County is wonderful. I haven't been there in years. I have heard it has developed, I don't know if that is a good or bad thing. Door County/Egg Harbor as well is total tourist. Many folks from Ill. have "Summer homes" there.
Lived there for a year, it is beautiful in Minocqua!❤
The first of the three houses in Ashland for sale is 804 9th Ave W. Price is $325,000. The second is 810 9th Ave W, and sold on July 17th for $128,000. The third house, 812 9th Ave W, is currently pending at $149,900.
Interesting info. Thanks 👍
325 000 for whaaaat?
😂😂😂😂😂
Greetings from Norway!
@@ilijapilipovicI agree !! Way to much for that house.
That's really inexpensive, especially given the really beautiful neighborhood they're in!
Thats the price I got 325000 here in San Diego would be way over 1.5 million maybe more that close to the water.
Welcome to Wisconsin! We love sharing our beautiful state with others! Bayfield is definitely a tourist town. Ashland is our favorite town up in that area! We actually have not done much exploring in Iron River! Enjoyed the tours! 💙Terry and Terri
Iron river is always burning itself down. You’re not missing out
Hell yeah
Bayfield is much nicer than Trashland
@@sgtpepper6379 Bayfield is beautiful, which I suppose, is why the tourists flock there. We probably should explore it more than we have…. 😊
Nice towns. Nice streets. Nice looking houses. Love those neighborhoods with all the big trees providing lots of shade. I could see myself living in these places.
They don't have any homeless people because they all froze to death.🥶
@@michaeldesilvio221 Northern Wisconsin is warmer than most of Canada, and they manage!
Left the home area
and have worked in l lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Chicago, Colorado, Charleston, SC, and reside in Dallas for 46 years. The people of Wisconsin are simply outstanding, honest, hard working and reliable. Simply the best, like the way all people should be.
We love Sheboygan...we had to send sweatshirts down south with the name on it...
Tourist towns are better keep. Get out of them in the same area and it's different.
I've been all over the US and northern Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan is one of the most beautiful regions I've ever seen, especially in the fall. The coast along Lake Superior is spectacular, never seen water so blue. One of the more underrated and overshadowed regions of our nation in my opinion.
Very picturese scenery by Lake Superior. Excellent video. Take care . Watching for next video.
I Live In Green Bay Wisconsin. 65 years, Born And Raised. Excellent Video. Never Been That Far North.
I LOVE your videos. I feel as though I’m in the Bronco with you, enjoying the travels with the two of you. Thanks a lot!
Thank you, that's the goal!
@IvyBuck1 If I recall properly Ashland WI is refurbishing the remnants of their ore docks
I have had Culvers, many times. We have them in Texas!
When you drove into the U.P. you went right past the house I grew up in. It's still my family's house and I go there every summer. Heavenly!
Me as well. :)
A lot of the towns here in Wisconsin still have A&W restaurants.
@@markvonwisco7369 Maybe the small towns but here in the Milwaukee area the only one we have is in Hales Corners.
I'm always ready for Apple butter.
Most of those boats are being stored over the winter. Yes, there is like a repair facility as well. That is a storage yard.
Interesting.
That makes sense. You can’t keep a boat in a lake that freezes over in the winter.
What a beautiful location you brought in at our behalf!
It’s unbelievably beautiful. 😀
They must have some wicked harsh winters there. So far north and right off the lake.
Yes, all those coastal areas easily get 100+ inches of snow per year.
Heck the spring is even wicked where they are traveling, but the summers and lovely Autumn days make it worth the sacrifice.
We have spring here in Wisconsin. Last year it was on a Tuesday 😂. No but seriously, last year (2023) we broke two low temperature records in June. Spring here is generally just more winter minus the below zero temperatures.
@@katherinefuller5267
Spring on a Tuesday last year LMBO good one LoL 😂👍
I love the cold & can't stand heat I'm so glad I was born & still living in Wisconsin 🧀💚💛
Yes very cold, but not so much snow these days. Sad really because I love winter ❤
How beautiful! Brings back happy memories when my parents and I went up there. I miss them. Ok thanks😊
A wonderful video, once again. Each of the towns was lovely, with some awesome holiday spots. Lots of gorgeous homes, and beautiful scenery. Lake Superior is amazing. Thanks so much, Joe and Nic, always enjoyable.😊💚
Thanks, CL!! 👍😀❤️
I've visited 39 of the U.S. states and lived in 6, but I've never set foot in Wisconsin. By now it's unlikely I'll ever get there; so many thanks to you for this tour!! This region of Wisconsin looks nice
Just curious as to why? I'm there, but if I could live anywhere else in the US it's South Dakota.
I watch this trucker on YT....travels almost every state....appears Wisconsin is the cleanest state....yards mowed, no trash laying around, etc
It really is.
Little Germany. The state with the highest percentage of German immigrant population.
It was nice and clean everywhere here in Wisconsin until the immigrants started moving in

Beautiful town. Wow 63 degrees, that feel good, it's been around 100 degrees here all month.
Hotel was knick named the white whale. It's a financial disaster and was sinking when built.
Love this area.
and you need to venture south to both Cable and Hayward.... my favorite spots
Right! Wisconsin is a great place to park your money when visiting, Oh, unless you are moving in don't forget to go home. I mean this in a nice way.
Lol truth, we get many from Chicago! I don't blame them ❤
My great-grandfather, Robert Jeffery, a crew member on the commercial schooner "Lucerne," died in November 1886 in that area on Lake Superior (all 9 crew members & captain perished).
Interesting!
They moved inland after that :-(
yet another amazing vid, and i gotta say, that is one beautiful town.. Looking forward for the next video.
Looks good for a nice little vacation. 👍
We moved to southern Wisconsin last year. It's so nice to see these beautiful towns north from us. Thank you for your video, I truly enjoyed it.
I'm in southern part too, just saying hello! You really must vacation north, it's absolutely beautiful in the fall!
@@Kellz58 Yes, I have heard its gorgeous! It will be a trip next year, for sure:)
I recommend (when you’re ready to leave WI) on your next visit to take the Badger across Lake Michigan. It’s a historic ship that ferries your car across too. Plus Manitawoc is gorgeous, especially the back roads. And near Green Bay
Come down to the great river road hwy.35 from Prescott to Alma wisconsin. It's really beautiful in the summer. 👍
There are a lot of well to do Baby Boomers owning Summer homes in Bayfield, that may be why the income and home values are high. Up in NW Wisconsin, when you get away from Superior's shore, the towns get poorer for sure.
The wealthy always “own” the coasts, right?
It’s amazing what tourism can do for such a small town like Bayfield! The money made from it allows them to keep downtown well kept and taken care of. They obviously have a city council that cares about the city and knows how to spend their budget very well. Very impressive! Of course, being on Lake Superior certainly helps. So even as far north as Bayfield is, you could argue location does mean everything.
Agreed. After seeing the stats, specifically the population loss, I expected it to look bad. Totally the opposite.
It is a support town for thousands of cabins and summer homes within 20 miles. A one day drive from 90 deg. Chicago to 65 deg. lake superior.

To me, the first town was a dream! Thanks so much for sharing all of these scenic areas.
Beautiful town, Bayfield .I would think they get alot of snow in the winter.
You got that right! Ashland expat.
Nice, you drove right past my guitar shop in Washburn. I am also from Flint, Michigan and watched your video from there. Definitely lots of familiar scenes in that video too. Cool video tour video series!
Another great Video Joe and Nic. Thanks for the great coverage of the details along with the vids.
Oh yes, it's good to see..."the big lake they called Gitche Gumee..."
I went there several times in 80s and 90s for the Bayfield Apple Festival! Wonderful!
Great video as always but can't believe you left Wisconsin so soon! Hope you will come back! Also looking forward to UP Michigan. 👍😸

Northern WI is a beautiful area. As you have found, peaceful and quiet and quite the inverse from a major city. The only drawback is Jan, Feb, and March.
And the locals, bad roads, ashland regular sewer overflows into the lake, people who get offended if you ask them to do their jobs......
Bayfield native here who lived in some of the largest US cities and came back. You won't find many of the things you fear here and many of the things you want here. Keep on keepin' on.
What do you "fear"..... exactly?
Bayfield reminds me of any New England harbor village, I mean, what's the difference but about 1K miles?
I've lived in the area previously, however, a weekend staying at the Old Rittenhouse Inn is still on my bucket list. Reservations there go way out into the future.
You can't do those towns without talking about the annual smelt runs, then the ensuing smelt feeds throughout the state.
It's after ice melt. Ashland bay by the power plant and warm water is where they come first after ice melt. Only lasts a week.
I really enjoyed seeing Bayfield. Thanks for the information.
