    You can get the same tone (or at least a VERY VERY similar one) with both pedals!!! Not convinced? let me tell you why you can get a very similar tone with the gt 10. In the gt 10, use the Fx-1 to create a para EQ or a graphic EQ to adjust the tone, then with Fx-2 select "tone modify" to adjust more the tone, then keep adjusting the tone with the knobs in the main screen, then press the "EQ" button in the "effects select" section and keep adjusting the tone, then go to "preamp" and you have like 4 windows where you can make changes to adjust more the tone, then go to OD/OS and make more adjustments, then select compressor to make more tone changes, then, if you are not 100% happy after all these thousand opportunities to modify your tone, click "edit" in the EZ tone section and make more adjustments. Finally, if you still need more adjustments, move the knobs of your amplifier. After all this, you should have a killer tone, if not, you're an idiot.

  • @vonpeedler
    @vonpeedler 9 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    The GT-10 sounds natural compared to the GT-100 which sounds like the guitar's tone controls are turned all the way down.

    • @heut4384
      @heut4384 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Sebastian No. You can't judge the GT-100 based on this crappy demo. In actuality, the GT-10 is a lot more muddy in the Gain stages than the GT-100. I own both. And I didn't realize how muddy the GT-10 is until I got the GT-100 and tried to play some of my riffs. If you do simple AC/DC riffs, you won't notice that much difference, but once you start getting into the Van Halen (i.e, Panama) and Dream Theater style rhythm or songs where you do a lot of palm muting and single/double notes playing, you'll really notice the GT-10's lack of dynamics that just sound electronic (IMO). just my two cents.

  • @cmbmr382
    @cmbmr382 10 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    WTF?? GT-10 is way better and clear!! GT-100is muddy as hell. Even my old vamp2 sounds better! If this comparison is meant to be GT-100 commercial, I think you fail miserably..

    In this video, I think the GT 10 definitely sounds better. Interestingly, most of the comments also favor the GT 10 over the GT 100.

  • @Whodamanimal
    @Whodamanimal 10 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I've owned both the GT10 and the GT100. I still own the GT10. No matter how I tried to adjust the GT100, it always sounded more dull than the GT10. I'm a blues/rock player, no hard core metal. Still love my GT10. Also, although they are quite bright, I like the effect buttons on the GT10 since you can tell instantly which effects are on and you can easily turn them off without having to dig into a menu.

    • @Groosome128
      @Groosome128 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Whodamanimal You mean the LED lights on the effects buttons? Ha, yeah I put a spot of black tape on each so they're not blinding but they're still too bright :/ A minor flaw though and I could probably do more about it.

  • @TyGerhardt

    So one guy is playing with a pick and the other is playing with his fingers on the Twin setting. What are the odds that was a contributing factor to the "warmer sound"?

  • @onemancarnage

  • @novakingood3788
    @novakingood3788 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    4:38 "...and this is what it sounds like." Out of tune basically. The comparison isn't really going to work unless it's the same person playing really.
    A useful test would be to put a lengthy phrase in a separate looper and send it off, alternating between effects boxes using an A/B pedal.

  • @GibanezJeff
    @GibanezJeff 11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I tried out the GT-100 at Guitar Center and while I highly recommend it for someone looking for a great floor processor I do not recommend GT-10 users upgrading to it and expecting a whole lot more than what you already have.

  • @jamminjay
    @jamminjay 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have the GT-10 and my friend has the GT-100. Not really worth upgrading if you already have the GT-10 unless you use the amp modeling. The GT-10's cocked wah fizz sound on the preamp models is annoying.

    Also most of my extraneous posts on this video are due to TH-cam's character limit. I tend to be quite obtuse with what I want to say, so I constantly have to make 2-3 posts at a time to get my point across. All I was saying is that if you're gonna compare two pedals, don't play them with two completely different guitars and guitar players - A/B them.

  • @misterpete1928
    @misterpete1928 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Cheers for the great video! I've used a GT-6, GT-8, GT-10, GT100 at various points in my gigging career and I've recently decided to downgrade from my current GT-100 back to a GT-8. I only use them for live playing and they have to be built like tanks in the venues I play! The GT-8 is way more tactile and I have a much better time adjusting things on the fly. I also can see what is happening when I'm on stage too! I can't get on with the dual GT-100 screens! But, the GT-8 sounds brighter, since getting the GT-100 my sound guy always said he struggled more with my tone! Happy with a GT-8! Must buy a spare! :D Awesome video!

    GT-100 ...massively dull and "encased" (nasal, boomy. breathless), even duller than a GT-10 which is already dull. I have the GT-8 (bought cheap from a friend 6months ago) and I can't get a decent tone out of it when I compare to my Zoom G5, which shines and kicks ass on every amp.

    • @Metallion-ol8bc

      That's what I say bro, gt 100 sounds like if someone thrown a blanket on top of it.
      I was thinking about purchasing the boss gt100 but made up my mind.
      Boss gt10 sounds more natural and less digital like many say here. I might purchase a used gt10 sounds awasome, if not a line 6 pod hd500x, any suggestions my friend, I'll appreciate it.

    • @SaccoBelmonte
      @SaccoBelmonte 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the PodHD500X will piss all over the GT10. Another option is the G5n if you don't need the extra I/O on the back.
      I'm very happy with my G5. You could get that one used too.

    • @naufalshidqirabbani4485
      @naufalshidqirabbani4485 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The G5n is a step back from G5. Get a G5 if you're going Zoom route.
      If you have the money, Pod HD500X is way better than the Zoom, IMO.

      Agree but also the Fender mustang floor have decent Fender amp tones and models compared to a boss gt 8, 10 or 100 for $175, and doesn't sound as digital just saying.

    • @SaccoBelmonte
      @SaccoBelmonte 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with the boss ones is that takes more time to get a good tone.

    Funny they said on the video that Captain ran out of preamps, but actually what would happen is the GT100 would run out first. GT-10 has 41 pre-amps, including the custom one. While GT-100 has 28.

    2) this video doesnt show probably a fair difference, gt100 sounds worse. But, Can somebody who has had both pedalboads give me an opinion? I heard that gt100 is a better product and sounds with a bit better quality.

    This is not a fair comparison because you have to run modelers through a 2-way speaker system so they realize their fullest fidelity. Running them into the front of an amp or through the amps effect loop is the worst and should never be done.

    As an owner of everything Roland and Boss, here is my take: The ME=50 sounds better than the ME-70. The GT=8 sounds better than the GT-10 which sounds better overall than the GT-100. There is a pattern here. On each new item, Boss adds more features and presets, but is losing the pure tonality of sound. Check out the older units and see.

    I'M WRITING THIS FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT SURE IF THE GT-100 IS BETTER!Got the GT-100 last week to upgrade my GT-10Just like you I was like... maybe it'll be not as good as you would expect. On the day when my package arrived I played my Gt-10 for like 4 hours or something before actually getting that gratifying door bell signaling the arrival of my new toy. I did that so I would see if there was indeed a difference or not. Got it.. plugged my headphones in and first impression was the following, this is what the GT-100 had over the GT-10-The sound was warmer all around.-It had way more expressivity, it responded really well to my playing(Stuff that would just sound meh, sounded amazing even though I was playing the same way on the same settings all through-out)-The sound wasn't.. let's call it linear.. it had depth to it, you could really feel those high gain/distortion sounds, it sounds huge!-First distortion effect I tried kinda blew my mind, after hitting an A chord really digging into the strings I went "Wow" just kinda out of reflex really, it just came out.So on to other stuff, completely clean... the GT-10 was in my opinion lacking. I could never get a satisfying clean tot like I could get on a real amp. The GT-100 however I managed to get a pretty good clean tone that I can use and it sounds awesome! Driven/Distortion/OD all that kind of stuff.. whole different story, effects wise I don't care how the GT-10 sounds hands down it has way better effects in this regard. For real. Again all my lead/rock stuff sound like they took steroids compared to the GT-10. In the mix.. my sound guy immediately told me that it sounds better even without EQ-ing it himself or anything at all. (I mean a real sound engineer with a diploma and everything not a guy at a bar doing sound cuz he loves knobs lol)Roland and BOSS are not stupid. The unit itself is better. If you get into your own effects and not use the presets(Which honestly mostly just show off the different sounds you can get with the unit) You'll love this. But you need to know how to EQ an amp and so on otherwise it'll sound like a potato. You gotta know what your doing with it, it doesn't have 3 knobs like most analog pedals or whatever. Honestly I dunno what happened in this video but yes, it does sound like the GT-10 is "Cleaner" but being next to both of them and hearing them through the clean channel of an amp or through a PA there's no way you can say the GT-10 sounds better. I don't see how you could say that.Bear in mind that: we all hear music differently. But as a whole effects, general sound, feel to the guitar and how you get sounds out of it... the GT-100 won me over. I've been using the GT-10 for 9 months or so and in the end it got stale cuz something was missing. It sounded good at first but then you start noticing those subtle nuances that are missing and the fact that your dynamic in actually playing the guitar is poorly received and it sounds stale.. Then again maybe you'll enjoy the GT-10 it's not bad effects unit. But it's lacking behind on a few things. Also depends on the type of music you play.GT-100 does what they say. It feels more like a real amp.. even though it doesn't like a real amp and maybe sounds different it has a bunch of good amp models that you can work with and actually feel. I'm all about good tones and the GT-100 let's me get those, I don't care that it doesn't sound just like a real marshal or whatever. If it sounds killer and I get a tone to melt some faces out of it I'm good to go bro!Listen to the first clean twin setting they use. Just a clean channel. And you'll hear the difference in how the GT-10 and GT-100 are different. For that patch the GT-100 actually sounds brighter and you can feel the low end better, where as the GT-10 kind of just sounds more "stale" I guess, dunno how to describe it. For the rest of the video you can hear that the GT-10 sounds like it's emulating that dynamic more then it's throwing it out there for you to like feel it. While the GT-100 I can actually feel the guitar in my headsets. Also guys.. You have tons on EQ options to get that bright tone your looking for, I mean tons... you can EQ your EQ while your EQ-ing your EQ, not to mention your sound guy which will also be EQ-ing you.Playing them both I have to say I prefer the GT-100. Maybe your not an experienced musician and the GT-10 sounds better... well yeah I guess it does in this video but if you setup your GT-100 it won't sound better than the GT-10 and in the long run when you get some skills you'll prefer the GT-100, you can be sure of that. If you wanna see a demo to this unit that kind of shows more of what it can sound like youtube "BOSS GT-100 Demo by Jack Thammarat" I hope this help. I'd say go and get this unit because it's worth it. Been playing guitar non stop since I got this, feels great!

    Neither sound that inspiring. Maybe a super strat type guitar would have produced a more dynamic set of sounds. Les Pauls always sound dull and woolly to my ears.

    Change the display mode on the GT-10 to get more preamp models. When you're on the default display mode (where they show you knobs and whatnot instead of parameters) they don't show you all the preamp models !

    Complaining about the difference in guitars is minimal, this is going into a DSP unit which is pretty much going to color the original tone of the guitar that you would hear through a traditional tube amp. Also saying it sound like shit, well no offense to any of the manufacturers making multifx boards but yeah its crappy compared to the original thing but its really hard to get similar amount of amps and effects for anywhere near the price. Multifx boards certainly have there place.

    I'm VERY disappointed with the GT100 it's NOT any better sounding than my Gt10. It's going back to the store. These guy just wan to make a sale! I tried the HD 500, the distorted, crunch and Stack models sounded good and punchy but the clean sounds were very wimpy and lacked punch. Plus the EQ's on the HD500 lack more frequencies, I'm very picky about my tone. Looks like I'll have to stick with my GT10. To bad, I was hope to hear some improvements in the over drive amps

    which ok one has 57 classics and the other has burstbuckers....so what? lol
    I got a GT-10 and do think i'll be upgrading to the GT-100....that said, I do think some sounds were better whilst others weren't. I dont see though swapping my AC30 and pedalboard for the GT-100 in my band. But for home play/practice and recording DI'd late at night as I sometimes like to do these GT's and similar devices Pods etc are great for that.
    HD500 vs GT-100 i'd love to hear a direct comparison of those!

    That said I totally agree that the amp modelling is crap on pretty much every multi-fx. Solution? Don't use it - 4CM through your nice tube amp's preamp instead and just use the MFX for effects... it's called a multi-fx and not a multi-amp-replacement-fx ;P The only exception being the AxeFX stuff... but unless you're a professional you don't NEED that and your audience will never hear the difference :P

    Also, the guy playing the GT100 is playing with fingers, the other guy is playing with a pick (at least at 5:05). I didn't bother watching the rest because it's a waste of time if you're playing with essentially two different guitars, two entirely different playing styles (one of which NATURALLY sounds warmer and softer)... hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they had two different recording paths too. What nonsense - a useless, unscientific waste of time.

    @rdownings 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice try, but to do a versus comparison correctly: Use one player with a looper and A/B the pedals. Two people do not pick or have the same nuances. There is no way the 100 sounds better than the 10 in your video. Maybe to you there at the time, not here. Also, having a more powerful processor does not always make for a better sound. The interface is nicer though...

    Its set the same. set the same. Its the same. And we set this one the same. This is set the same. The same! the pach is the same. the same amp. the same on the doo daa amd wobly bits the same. gibson the same. Repeat 500 times
    OK IM FUKING THICK AS A FUKING PLANK OF WOOD. SO TELL ME! WAS IT THE SAME?

  • @Ultima2876
    @Ultima2876 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's like comparing a Tube amp played with a Squier Strat through a DS-1 with a solid state amp of equivalent level played with a Gibson LP through a Nobels ODR-1 and saying solid state wins every time. That would also be a useless unscientific waste of time - but I guess you'd be buying that SS amp in that situation, right?

  • @Ultima2876
    @Ultima2876 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    ... there's nothing high about my standards. I just think that it should be a fair test, since they're quite obviously just trying to sell the GT-100. It's really not that much of an improvement over the GT-10. And my 7 posts were in response to someone else. It's a free country, I can post as much as I like on whatever topic I like and you can't stop me :)

    if you had a a nice valve amp in the first place there is no need for one of these, they sound terrible through anything, spend the extra cost, get the analogue pedals they are failing to emulate. the only excuse for not being able to afford the real thing is lack of patience to save up if you don't have the spare cash.

    What this means is that I'm not sure that this video is showing the TRUE quality of the new 100. I would assume it sounds better than my 10, and it is deeper, fuller, and a little more organic than my 10. Now if you add a little distortion to the 100's presets, THEN you might see the difference between the 100 and 10. The 10 just sounds a little brighter, trebley and distorted, like 5 percent more distortion is added. But the 100 sounds like a better original sound. I'll try other comparisons...

  • @TramEFx
    @TramEFx 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really? almost every one of the amp models they said were exclusive to the GT-100 were also on the GT-10. Geez guys learn how to use equipment before demoing as it normally helps. Also if you're going to say you are both using the same guitar then you should Actually Use The Same Guitar!! Your trying to sell to musicians here not noobs who think if two guitars LOOK the same they SOUND the same. Boss is a good name but your not gonna sell any that way. Just sayin...

  • @1960monk
    @1960monk 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    This video is nice , but ultimately falls short. On the "Clean Twin" (first comparison), the guy on the left is using a pick, while the guy on the right, inexplicably put his pick down, and uses his fingers, Naturally less clarity & punch plus a "more organic" sound.

    I have a 100, and I must say, and this video shows what I have found out for myself.... must of the programs sound like they are UNDER A BLANKET!!!!!!!!!! There are a few exceptions, but not many.... this vid ded not sell the 100 very well.... ooopppps.... sorry but I have one and i know!!

    There's no point in the comparison if u use the tones provided by Boss, cause they are different for sure as the sound they produce. These devices are made for deep tweak by the user, you have a programmable DSP not a kit of static effects. Anyway... no xlr out for GT100? GT-10B has it

  • @Machin3God

    This is not a good comparison. The guitars are very different.
    On the Left: Les Paul Traditional - Weight relieved, Classic 57s pups, heavier, better tone, dark and creamy, 300k pots.
    On the right: Les Paul Standard - Chambered, Burstbucker Pros, lighter, worse tone, harsh, 500k pots.
