Half of the old Safari shop at the back of the park was turned into an indoor eating area when the new entrance area opened. The ice cream kiosk at the back of the park next to the Monkey playhouse has indoor wavey slides for the kids next to itl
Great vlog by the way, I am glad you like our park here in Doncaster I have been going since it first opened and have seen it expand over the years., I think it the best thing that has happened to Doncaster and am really proud of what they have achieved in a short period of time. There are rumars that the area behind the Sealions is going to have Gurillas, Bongo antelopes and a Hanavarian area.
The best route round is after the bridge to go down to see the camels and polar 2 and then into africa, the lions and then the baboons and woodland area through to the polar project then the south american area and the tiger walkway which brings you back to the bridge to exit the park and see the sealions.
This looks brilliant! Can't wait for Saturday now, got 3 very excited children especially my Bella who is giraffe obsessed, can't believe how close up you can get!!
You missed out the walkway which has the Rolloway monkeys and Dik Diks and Okapi and Tigers. You usually have to book to eat at the Evolution resturant as it gets very busy. YWP Have events all through the year. In August they have Sefari nights where you can be in the park from 8 in the morning until 8 at night, and they have extra food and entertainment on offer.
The area you entered the park is the newest part of the park. The bridge you went over goes over the river Torne and the area next to is is the natural wetland area that is protected so cant be developed by the park. The area opposite the Polar 2 area is owned by Yorkshire Water and is a water works, it was there before the park was developed and has its own access area. The area was a riding school before it was YWP. The new area was arable land purchased by the park recently. The oldest part of the park is the area by the old entrance near the lions. The park opened in 2009 and it has grown rapidly. They have feeding times and talks and a show and tell on bugs and reptiles for the kids.
Project Polar was built as an area where spare males from European zoos could live with plenty of space and where retired male bears could live out the remainder of their lives. The bears are sent to other zoos around Europe when they are required for breeding, so quite a few bears have come and gone over the years. Victor was the first bear he was retired from the breeding programme and lived out the remainder of his life at YWP he was a very old bear when he died. Hamish is the latest male bear to arrive, he came from Highland zoo at the age of 3 when he was too old to live with his mother.
Project Polar has four adult male polar bears. Project polar 2 has a female polar bear and her 2 year old triplets they came from France last year, 2 male and 1 female.
@@FamilyOutingsTV No i just have a season ticket and i have been going since it first opened. I have got the guide books as well but they havnt produced one since 2019 but they have been giving out leaflets when you enter fjor the last couple of years. Also the rangers give very informative talks and will answer any questions you ask so i have learnt a lot over the years. Before YWP opened we didnt really have a local outdoor attraction to visit. I love it because it is like a country park as well as a zoo.
The Polar 2 project is an area of the zoo that is used as required for animals in need. The first residents were rescue bears but they died. Then Rasputin a bear from France came over after he was no longer required by the zoo for breeding he quanteened there and got stuck there because of covid so couldnt be transfered to the Project Polar area, then another zoo wanted him for breeding so he left. Then the present mother bear and her triplets came from France becasuse there wasnt enough room at her zoo for her growing cubs. The 2 male bears will transfer to Project Polar when they are old enough., and the females will probably go to other zoos for breeding.
YWP consists of 175 acres that have been developed so far. They bought 260 acres initailly and then they bought another 150 acres, some of it is natural wetlands and woodlands that cannot be developed, The new entrance is on the new land that they bought. '
Hi I just wanted to say that Project polar one is still there , they just got a second one because sadly they got some brown bears but they quickly died ):
Oh this looks so amazing. My son loves animals and never been there so probably this would be the next place we are going to visit :) Thanks for sharing this video and for showing us around :)

The old car park is now used as a coach park, so that is where you will be directed. I am not sure if you will enter that way or not.
