    I have a 2016 Ram 1500 Quadcab 4wd 3.0L. The 3rd generation Ecodiesel engine has me thinking about a Ecodiesel JT or JL. My wife has a beastly 2018 Ram 2500 Crewcab 4wd 6.7L, for all the truck things we need to do. I enjoy my project '96 ZJ. So if I don't put a Cummins R2.8 crate engine in the ZJ. An Ecodiesel JT or JL could end up at my house.
    The extended range of a diesel is only part of the pleasure. The off idle performance. Sfter putting the Flowmaster muffler and the Bank's silencer silencer delete on the intake. Made the 3.0L a nice overlanding engine. A 4:1 ratio transfer case would enhance downhill control in steep terrain.

    • @MaxOverland
      @MaxOverland 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s all good man. Thanks for the question! There is a diesel additive that can prevent it from jelling. But winter edition diesel also is more resistant to jelling. If it does jell, there is emergency additive to turn it back into diesel. Hope this makes sense! Don’t be scared of them. I was a diesel tech for 7 years. They are not that complicated.

    Check out the Lucas Diesel Deep Clean additive.
    I am a professional owner/operator with extensive experience with long term idling (unfortunately) as my rig is in a vocational off-road oilfield application. It's used a lot in PTO mode. So because of this I needed a way to keep the DEF particulate filter system as clean as possible. I was told to expect changing out my exhaust filters at about 7,000 hours. At a HUGE cost.
    Sooo..... I decided to look into this additive. So far I have 15,000+ hours and no replacement yet. Yes the additive is expensive but worth it. My opinion.
    I have ordered a gladiator diesel myself and this is what I plan to use.
    ALSO - do NOT use the prepackaged def sold in containers that sit on shelves. Product does deteriorate over time. Not to mention it's 3 times the cost of DEF at the pump. Most all major travel centers and truck stops now have DEF at the pump. Much fresher way to go. One of my jobs was to move bulk DEF by tanker. I see the difference. Big time. So when you get your rig - scope out your nearest retailer that has pump DEF and plan accordingly.
    Cheers!🍻

  • @LeoOrtega144
    @LeoOrtega144 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Argh.... The ecodiesel. While its nice to have options and maybe the torque calls to you, the mileage shouldn't. Someone did the calculations factoring in the extra cost, maintenance costs, and it should take you 300,000 miles to come out ahead on the mileage/cost factor. Glad you mentioned the history of the engine, its been around since 2014 with its problems. Lots of mechanics will steer you away from it because of its history. Basically, I think diesels have seen their heyday come and go. All the new emissions standards have had a big effect on the modern day diesel. Some states even want to ban them as polluters. I don't think you will find a diesel that will last you 300,000 miles these days. They are so complicated today. The beauty of a diesel was its simplicity and durability, not anymore with all the emission crap on it. Take that DEF fluid... You better use the finest quality and fresh Def fluid you can find, that 700 dollar def injector clogs up pretty easy. Plus there are a host of expensive sensors on that exhaust system, some as much as 600 dollars.
    Then again, I assume people keep their vehicles forever like I do. If you just keep them up until the warranty expires or shortly thereafter, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I'm old school I guess. I know people who have had their diesels around for 300k plus, but you know they are diesels because they are smelly, noisy, and dependable (polluters too).

    Diesel sounds great and all but if you’re trying to keep your max towing I’d say stick with the V6. With the added weight in the Diesel engine you’ll lose payload and towing capacity. I’ve read a lot into this and I’m gonna add a Ripp supercharger to mine. I’ll gain MPG, HP, and torque comparable to the diesel, and still keep the majority of my payload and towing capacity as the RIPP kit is only about 50lbs. If you don’t care about the towing then I guess go ahead but I say take a look into the RIPP kit.

I don’t trust their new Ecodiesel if it doesn’t have Cummins stamped on it. The emissions, especially the EGR’s sound problematic. The Cummins has been great with the emissions, I’ve had zero issues. The 3.6 V6 has been around quite a while, so it’s a safer bet.

      It's a reference I know they stoped making it about same time as the dakota. I'm saying other then off road capability the gladiator is lacking and in the end will cost way more in maintenance, If ram decides to enter the midsize market again and releases a truck for less I bet the gladiator wont last especially if they release it on a gladiator platform or even with a rebel package. I love the gladiator I'd own one but I personally wish ram had a midsize again and would buy and build that before a gladiator

      @@joshuatracy4829 dude, people have been waiting years for another Jeep pickup,it’s not going anywhere. You know they stopped making the Dakota because the y weren’t selling anymore. Also a had 99, 318 four wheel drive extra cab and it was basically just every year for a sticker plan on wheel bearings and ball joints. Also a friend had a newer square Dakota with the 4.7(still has it) and the engine was replaced under the lifetime powertrain warranty they offered for like one year b4 they smartened up. Other than maybe being dramatically cheaper a Dakota is not gonna hurt gladiator sales. It apples and oranges. A little economy pickup is not a lifestyle vehicle like a wrangler,just check out the aftermarket support already and the insane builds. A Dakota even a really good one is not gonna stop the fanaticism of Jeep ppl,,,,at all,sorry. I did love my v8 Dakota back in the day but it had like 50less hp than my JT and got 10 mpg and blew thru ball joints and wheel bearings. New wranglers are bulletproof and the trade in values are like no other. These are facts not just my opinion. My 3rd wrangler... every time I try something else I go right back. Prob never drive anything else besides my mustang. I would t even consider another pickup unless Ford does the bronco pickup like they are talking about because of the gladiator,hello
