    I love Ecclesiastes. It's like it's just saying "Get over yourself bro, live your life and stop waiting to live"

    • @as-above-so-below-
      @as-above-so-below- 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +61

      @ChapelonTheHill Obviously God. The whole point is to get you to get over yourself and your own perceived self importance in the world. That's where God comes in and your self loathing and/or arrogance dies.

      @ChapelonTheHill If tradition is true and Solomon wrote this book towards the very end of his life, I would think that it was cathartic for him. I'm almost certain that his past conduct with the Bathsheba was eating him to the bone and this book is really a narration of his penitence for putting vanity and earthly things before God
      **Bathsheba, not Queen of Sheba

    • @as-above-so-below-
      @as-above-so-below- 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @ChapelonTheHill I think what he was going for most here is that our fears and insecurities are where most of our poor conduct and sin are rooted in. To let go of them and live a meaningful life, rather than a life searching for meaning in vanity is to let go of a lot of strong emotions that make living righteously difficult

    The way "Then the devil left Him" is added brings me so much joy everytime I reach the end of the video. It's like a confirmation that regardless of what's happening, as long as we keep our faith in Christ, the devil shall be ashamed and scared by us, leaving us. The confirmation that in the end, we will win in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. May God bless you all!

    This is incredibly complex. Connecting the idea of “everything is meaningless” and Solomons philosophy here with the temptation of Christ is an incredible parallel. This would explain why Christ had no place of rest. Not just because he was God, but because everything is meaningless without God. The same meaninglessness that Solomon talked about is the same reason that Christ was able to look past the entire world and reject the offer from the devil to be lord of it all. All of this life is meaningless without God, therefore, seek the lord and he will add whatever He pleases. You cannot understand that without being disconnected from the body and its desires for a time. Because he was far enough from his own pleasures and needs, he was able to clearly see the path of God. In Christs case, the offer from Satan was fundamental. “I will give you the whole world if you just bow down to me.” But the reality is that Satan genuinely has nothing to offer. Christ would not have seen that if he had been full of the very thing Satan was “offering”. It’s not that food or that anything by extension is evil, it’s that the devil will use whatever he can, especially human pleasures and joys to turn people into his architects. Being satisfied in all of its multifaceted ways puts you in the tempting position to consider that you don’t need anything, maybe even God, because you have what you need already. This suggests that what Christ realized was something like “without the lord, whatever you’re offering is utterly meaningless.” or something like “you have nothing to give, therefore, I have nothing to gain. I have nothing to gain not because I have nothing and am satisfied, but because I have everything I need in God, and by trust, I know that my needs will be met.” I’m starting to ramble but anyways, this is a great idea put together and it’s much appreciated

      I would think it would more fit a theme of the emptiness of the world if not viewed through the eye of the believer in Christ, as nothing has purpose or long lasting value if this was all life was. Without a redemption and resurrection, this world would become meaningless and hollow for all pursuits.

      We all are, but that's the point. There needs to be failure to have success. There needs to be suffering to have joy. There needs to be opposition in all things, or we'll never grow.
      This life isn't a test for God to try our worthiness.
      It's a test for us to prove our worth to ourselves and for some people, that comes naturally, but for many of us, it's a long and winding path with a lot of forks and switchbacks, question, after question, thought after thought, as if every part of you is geared towards self examination.
