I was also seven years old in 1988. Went to Tod. Rd. Primary. I used to love going down town on a Saturday shopping with either my grandma or my granddad. :) Now living in the Dutch countryside near the German border. Thanks for this video, mate. I'll be able to show my little boy where daddy grew up, once he's old enough to understand. :) Burnley was a great place in the 80s and early 90s. Some videos of Towneley or Brunshaw would be immense.
I was a Tod Road for a while, then went onto Towneley High. Burnley has changed much over the years, I remember the market it was thriving at the weekends.
Thanks for this! All that green grass that's been disappearing to build new houses. I wouldn't care if there wasn't already so many borded up derelict houses. Such a waste of green 💚 Not to mention the beautiful big tree at the round about near the culvert. All ripped away to make a much slower/clogged up traffic jam.
The Sky is clear and filled with beautiful clouds, the grass is green and looks lovely! The cleaning service has stepped up no doubt!! A Peaceful, more simpler time! Well Enjoyed this...
This looks to be a bit earlier than 1988. Started driving in 87 and I’m sure St James St was part-pedestrianised by then, but my memory isn’t what it was in those days 😂 Love seeing the old place though. I’d totally forgotten about Animal Magic! 😂
Wow, brings back memories, I was 18/19 in 88, I think it go pedestrianised in 90, looks better than it does now, I moved to whalley years ago, went down Burnley the other week with my teenage son...a bit shocking really, I'm afraid to say.
My husband town ..... but look at on this video better than what it is now older the better newer the worse me mum use to go cats and angels poss the broadsword and me after swimming I went to the studio 123 cinema on weekends hehe was fun back then now iam 45 I miss all this including the Thompson Centre thank you
It's weird seeing cars going down a street that's pedestrian now. They should have kept that foundation, looks way better than the crap that's there now.
Are you sure this was 1988. A few things seem wrong. The top end of St. James’s street was pedestrianised in 88 and there are no sign of the works being carried out. Also that was the year that the Boot became Yates Wine lodge. Also the scaffolding on the mechanics was not their in 88 as it was completed in 87 a year after it was opened by the queen. Look at the amounts of litter you don’t see that amount today.
Iam stu from Burnley me dad use to be on the cats doors back in the days good video but it's not like this anymore ouch nearly everything gone old Thompson centre wonderland studio 12 3 cinema the fountain
I was hoping to see the Eastenders double decker buses which were about at the time ,anyone remember them Dot Cotten , Dirty Den and the like? But they were painted in the Burnley and Pendle colours.
Burnleyguy I do miss my home town. I am very proud of how Burnley fc are doing( I followed them when they needed me in 86-87-88 ...I went to all the games, home and away.....I was young with money.....and the buzz could not be beat.) but now when I look how Burnley , Colne and Nelson are I am , shamefully , glad I'm down south.........but I may come back......reasons. If you answer I may talk more.
Left to join the Army in 88...I always remember it being a lot busier and BRIGHTER.. LOL😅must have filmed this on a Sunday morning UTC X and peace out to you all.
Certainly looks like the burnley I knew throughout my child hood, really enjoyed Tod road primary, and townley high enjoyed going wooly’s on saturdays...now in sunny Wiltshire. Left in 97 , enjoy ! Tommy centre n all that lovely vid.
