    We started in Arusha, Tanzania Africa - Catching a small plane to the northern Serengeti where I was amazed at the huge number of animals we saw in the first few hours of the tour. The Thomson Camp or Nyumba in the Northern Serengeti is a bit of paradise - The tents are filled with comfy beds, a bar tent is nearby and the food is ridiculously good for being in the middle of nowhere. On Day two we saw the wildebeest crossing the mara river and it was amazing - the dust, the herd, the splashing, the drama as some didn't make it - to witness with my own eyes what I saw growing up on PBS and Nature documentaries was just beyond words.

    Looks like home to me. We are so disconnected from the nature we came from. I'd probably literally cry if I seen something like this in person. It's like that scene with Ben Stiller in it where the guy waits forever to get the shot, then the animals comes into the frame and he doesn't take the picture so he can be in the moment and the camera won't get in the way.

    Amazing video Toby. I was just there in Tanzania Africa in march. Trip started from DAR es Salam then to Zanzibar island(beautiful place) then went to Arusha by 12 hr bus ride.visited two national parks Tarangire national park and Ngorongoro national park both absolutely amazing. Also met the MASAI tribes. my only regret was not owning proper camera equipment. went there with d7100 and tamron 70-300 vc. and Sigma 17-50 f2.8. Deff needed more range at the national parks. still got some decent shots. Africa is an amazing place, will definitely be going back there and to Serengeti with proper equipment. thank you for sharing your experience!!!

    Amazing footage! I'm going to Tanzania this December and I was wondering which lenses should I take with me. I'm using Canon 70D and my main wildlife lens is Canon 400mm f/5.6. For landscapes and other stuff I'm using Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 A. I don't currently have a lens to fill that gap (about 70-200mm) so should I buy Canon 70-200mm f/4 IS (zoom range and IS) or go for the 200mm f/2.8 prime with its amazing IQ? They cost about the same. Thanks!

    Great content and visuals of the country and animals. I did notice, as I have before that when your doing any vlogging, the auto focus is continually hunting. Very annoying really. I'm wondering Toby, why on earth you wouldn't of chosen something like a Canon G7X to do it? I know you are aware how the Panasonics and Sonys are still not quite there when it comes to face tracking etc. I'm sure using the Canon for your vlogging would of made this presentation much more enjoyable.

      Sorry Harvey - There are several more videos in this series and they all have some tips included.
      In your jeeps you should have bean bags for resting your camera/lens on. Use em :) You want to watch your shutter speed, make sure it is fast enough to avoid blur on your longer lenses - more wildlife tips here - th-cam.com/video/C7zE2Ob3l90/w-d-xo.html

    Too many tourists forget to put their cameras down and enjoy the sighting. They see everything through their camera lenses. I was in the Masai Mara last year and we watched a Leopard feed off of a kill in a tree. I took some snaps, then I put the camera down and enjoyed it with my own eyes while everyone else just looked it it through their camera lenses.. I think I was the only person (apart from the guide) on the trip who's actually seen a wild Leopard in the flesh.

    • @photorectoby
      @photorectoby  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's something we remind everyone to do on all tours - take some time to just enjoy the scenery, the wildlife, the experience with your own eyes.

    I hope you get to go tent camp near Lake Victoria where the tree climbing lions live. We walked past them in the path to the meal tent. We mobile tent camped among the tree climbers. The mobile tents had porta potties and two bucket hot showers. The porters poured two buckets of hot water in the reservoir and knocked at the back of the tent. When you ran out of water the shower was over They prefer living in trees.They were not afraid nor aggressive. We stayed in a nice little hotel on our last night in Arusha. But the tents are wonderful with concrete bathrooms, hot water and flush toilets. But when it is dark. It is very dark. And I hope you get to see the Catholic church the Italian prisoners built during WWII. It is near the Rift Valley ad I remember it was just above it. And I hope you signed up for the hot air balloons over the Masai Mara. You get up before dark and help them lay the balloons flat on the ground and you take off just after sunrise. Amazing! The Msra River is beautiful and the Nile crocs are humongous.
