Bizarrely…I was finishing up a gouache painting and your video popped up! I love your impressionistic interpretation of the cottage! I’ll try one in a similar style soon . I’ve been binge watching the channel for a few days with acrylics and glad to see gouache as a possibility too. Thank you!
What a fabulous little painting. Looked so easy Malcolm…..,looks can be deceiving though. Haven’t tried gouache yet, so will watch more of your tutorials.and try it. Cheers Liz
Wonderful cottage painting. Really like how bright the colors are. Have never tried to paint with gouache paint. Thank y ou for this video. All the best.
I loved watching you do this, the sunlight, the subject, the setting, all favourites of mine, could so easily be a UK cottage where I am, your narration very helpful. Thank you.
What a nice painting in such a short time!! I already have gouache paints ready on my desk to try😊. Are these charming cottages in your neighborhood where you live?
@@MalcolmDewey Western Cape is a dream destination,I will never go there but luckily there is Google Images, where I saw these wonderful places.😀 It seems that even the architecture of the newer buildings is inspired by the old Cape Dutch houses
always great to watch i do like gouache but as i paint oils en plein air ive been looking at your casien videos i found here the paint but in 75ml pots
Hi Malcolm, if I don't use gouache straight out of the tube, i'm unable to get thick, vibrant strokes of paint which gouache is so known for. However, this method always results in paint wastage for me. I saw that you store your gouache in a palette, do you feel that the gouache gets less vibrant when you have to reaactivate it with water?
Gouache will need some dilution with water to get it to a correct consistency. Enough for it to flow off the brush, but it must not be too wet and drip off the brush. Thick gouache directly from the tube onto the brush could result in cracking paint when it dries. Gouache is prone to do this. You can keep the paint wet in a palette compartment with a plastic-sealed lid. Spritz the paint lightly every few days. Reconstituted paint is okay but may show issues. Depends on how old it is I think.
@@MalcolmDewey Ok that's great, i am going to try storing my gouache in an air-tight palette and spritzing water on it regularly. Thanks for the advice!
What a beautiful painting behind you, that’s something to aspire to.
Thank you 😊
Beautiful painting, I love your brush strokes and colors, thanks so much!

Thanks Vesna - no these are some distance away in the Western Cape. Favorite holiday destinations.

@@vesnabreskvar9082 yes, the heritage of that design is very strong. Some towns have guidelines on this too.

@@MalcolmDewey does casein dry slow or fast if I got 75 mm pots could I put some in a pallet and use it for an hour or two
Lovely sketch! 🙂 Do you squeeze out fresh gouache colour every time Malcolm?
Thank you. No, but I do try to keep the paint in the palette moist while in storage. That does require checking up every few days.

@lemonade708 Add a couple of drops vinegar to the spritzer to stop any mold .
