Life Guards are the Prussian equivalent of generic Guards. As the very best infantry in a faction that is already defined by its excellent line infantry, they are far superior to even regular guards in almost every regard, and can defeat nearly every other regiment in the game one-on-one as well as inspire nearby units. They are the best guard units available without downloadable content, and some of the best units overall. Their only downsides are their slightly inferior accuracy (more than compensated for by their superb reloading skills) and that they may only be trained in East Prussia and Brandenburg, making them very difficult to replace if they are fighting far from home. While nearly invulnerable in a melee and nearly unparalleled in terms of shooting ability, Life Guards are still vulnerable to cavalry charges from the rear, skirmishers, and particularly artillery. Since they are the best line infantry available in the Prussian army, they are attractive targets for concentrated fire. Screening them with skirmishers and using cover to their advantage can negate these effects. Like most guards, Prussian Life Guard may only be recruited by a Prussian Absolute Monarchy or a Constitutional Monarchy, and are automatically disbanded if a Republic is declared. Instead, Republican Guard can be trained, and while they can be recruited in any major region with an Army Staff College, they are statistically inferior to the Life Guard.
The Swiss Guard are the best elite infantry available to France, and are some of the best guard units in the game. They are comparable to the Prussian Life Guard statistically, but are hampered by their low regiment limit.

That's because the amount killed per volley is logarithmic. That slight advantage the Swiss get at the beginning increases exponentially.

i think that if both of them had rank firing drill instead of platoon fire, germans could won. This type of fire is better for more accurative unit (much more loose formation). Also you can see that life guard is ready to fire (1:22), but needs to wait for fire of other platoons. So, 5 of reloading didn't have sense, becouse of platoon firing

@@TotalWar1vs1 what you fail to take into account is that a lot of the main units don't even have access to platoon fire drill. So even if it is slightly better, it won't affect most of your armies. I don't know about you but I like having the same templates for all my armies in late game, so that I know what they are capable of
@@alexgee6393 For me, I like the variety so Platoon Firing is fine to have. Only elite units have Platoon Firing, I'd like to see the difference between them and regular units.
