Definitely was apprehensive about the show being like a parody or having too many cliches too, but in the end enjoyed the way it was willing to go further and darker than others for the superhero genre! Season 1 definitely set the bar high
Something I loved about Omni-man is they didn't make him a typical villain. Part of what makes JK Simmons perfect as Omni-man is his voice has a quality that can be nurturing . He sound like what an ageing Superman would sound like ,if Krypton were a planet full of dictators and fascists. The show makes you care about him and be appalled by his actions at the same time , he's working to support his family and he's shown to care about them ,there's also some geniunely heartwarming moments with him and Mark , on the other hand he's also shown to be somewhat oblivious to people's feelings including Marks and there's times his training Mark is physical abuse , and then of course we have the reveal to Mark where Omni-man completely crosses the line . By the same token I don't think Omni-man is inherently evil. He's been brought up on the ideals of his people and their darwinian beliefs and methods that only the strong survive.
