The reason Chon toured with all of these bands has nothing to do with heaviness or whatever. They're progressive and talented as fuck. That's all there is to it. They attract musicians.
@@iassessyou3285 how is it weird? Btbam has toured with animals as leaders, plini, intervals and polyphia. I just saw btbam tour with trivium. That was weird to me
Man, this is so sad. I think the CHON fanbase in general suspected the band was getting the short end of the stick, but they consistently came out with killer albums and played a ton of shows so nobody could really tell what was going on behind the scenes. Having unexpected cameos like Mario playing with Mouse on the Keys or Kenny G. live with the band really shows that they're universally respected by everyone except their own label.
I have been a big fan of chon since 2013 I really thought they were very doing well financially through the tours, merchant, record sales. I figured I’d be envious of what they were making tbh they are really popular

i went to highschool with these guys. i feel like they definitely got taken advantage of. they just acted like these kids that avoided confrontation and acted like they could just avoid problems. i still rememeber Nathan the drummer threw a 10lb disc at a girl, and cut open her head. he just ran away and never apologized for his actions. to this day i feel like I and 2 other people witnessed what happened. 2 yrs later, they came to my ice cream shop i was working at and the order was roughly +$100. mind you, minimum wage was 8.50 in 2014. All i asked was some free merch next time we see each other (we live in the same city and we were all "homies"). they NEVER hooked it up with anything, and made some excuse every time i asked for a shirt when they had BOXES of them. They need a good agent who advocates for them and has a long view of their value and earning potential. Paying a % to a trusted agent who has their back is still far more financially lucrative for them than getting shafted by labels. And there's a financial incentive for the agent to land deals that are max payout with minimum strings attached. Win win on their side of the table. CHON needs to not take this crap lying down and seize the reins of their careers and futures. I get the impression that they are all pretty chill dudes whose strength is music, not business. Hence the need for an agent. If they already have one.... Fire that guy.
Erick from Chon said this isn't true on the Chon discord. So many people are revealing themselves to not be thorough Chon fans lol. I'm wondering if one of the problems they're dealing with is Brian Evans. He's going after Javier Reyes publicly rn over some dispute with the "super chon drums" sample pack they made when tracking the self titled. Brian says it's not about money, he just wants it to stop being sold, but I bet it's a royalty dispute. So I wouldn't be surprised if maybe starting in 2020 given the pandemic times were tough and he tried to renegotiate royalties or splitsheets for the Chon albums/merch, didn't get what he wanted, and is now somehow leveraging his weight in their contracts to prevent them from doing anything until he gets what he wants. He made a statement like "I shouldn't have to take my homies to court to get what I'm owed" in reference to the chon/sumerian drama he started. From 2020 to 2021 Mario and Erick were often saying they were working on the next album, then the radio silence, the hiatus announcement on the discord, and then the last message was Erick saying the stuff about their label Sumerian isn't true.
I do appreciate the in depth breakdown of how they're universally respected and sought after.. everyone saying he took forever but It helps to give that perspective on how there's the difference in fan base taste but behind the scenes there's different angles.
They are worth another label buying out their contract. But Sumerian might not let them go. Being beholden to another label wouldn't be much better. But if a brave label cleared their balance sheet and made them a fair deal. All involved would make an incredible amount of money. Because they're established, solid fanbase and have relationships in the industry. Unfortunately, labels don't think this way anymore. They want you to be profitable immediately.
I don't know how much exposure they actually got from signing with Sumerian. Lot of people knew about them when they put that first EP out in the same way that Misha did in the early days with Periphery.
im gonna watch the whole video because i like where youre going with it but i have to chime in on this subject.
