One of the reasons I love that I'm learning to be a hairdresser I can use all the tools for my cosplay wigs😂
Ommmmg i wish i had lots of tools like that at my disposal! Definatly good use of tools.
Also goodluck with learning! I bet you eill br a great hairdresser and wig stylist one day if not already :)
LITERALLY
Thanks for this it will really help especially since I’ve never cosplayed before and I’ve order a few cosplays:)
Im so glad it helped you, it was the point of this video to help others. There are lots of different ways to style wigs but this is just how I do it. :) I will say You probably don't need a steamer for a lot of things if you are trying to save money. But definitely need hair dryer and hair spray
Tysm you’re a really kind person:)
Thank you for this! Super easy to follow, I’m about to go pick up supplies to get started on my con crunch wig. First time cosplaying in 8 years, I’m so nervous that I’m going to butcher it.
Im so glad it was helpful for you! I wish you the best of luck. Remember if your unsure try on a bit if hair thats not that visible. Any questions just pop a comment. :D you can do it!!!
this is so helpful for a beginner cosplayer!! thank you so much, i was having a bit pf trouble figuring put how to translate animated hair into wigs
So glad I helped :D
I'm not even going to cosplay Alhaitham, but the video was recommended to me and am nearly through the video and am learning so much!
This is such a perfectly styled wig. This is amazing.
I may want to re-watch this just to learn more!
I'm so glad this was helpful!!! I also did a tartaglia wig tutorial video. I goes over a new product near the end that could help with spikes. Bit so glad you fount this helpful. Any questions just ask.
Any wig techniques can be used for any wigs. :)
And thank youuuu
Casually watching this to do it to my hair
since ahoges (the little stand uppy hair bit) are basically defying gravity, it makes sense why it’d take more time! ^_^
Comin back to this video because I got a crimper for my cosplay wigs today. Thank god for this video❤❤❤❤
OMG your the second person this week to get a crimper to use these videos. So honoured I know these videos may help people. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions! 💕
@@MollieznLolliez omg just as I was trying to use stuff. Hi XD it went kinda well so far- I’m still learning how to use it. I’m no expert on wig styling, despite having several cosplays on several characters. This is my first time using actual wig styling methods and stuff. Trying to do a Jinx wig is uh- VERY INTERESTING. She has SO much hair. Only doing her bangs right now. Did test wigs before doing her wig though.
@@MollieznLolliez I’ll 100% ask if I have questions because- again- wig styling is something that’s very VERY new to me. So- yeah XD
@@MollieznLolliez need to sleep because it’s ✨LATE✨ where I am
@bella_daze3092 don't worry we all start somewhere. I remember the first wig I crimped and it was diluc from genshin impact(and lets just say i have alot to learn and improve from). Bit if you are styling a super long wig link jinx (I have done kaeya). I crimp the top part but didn't bother with the plait (can't spell it -_- - stupid dyslexia). To save time. But if you do this do try and fade the crimp marks in.
I made the questionable decision to cosplay a character with tentacle hair, so finding ways to stylize wigs has been very beneficial. Thank you for making such an informative tutorial, it was very easy to follow along
I'm so glad it was helpful for you. Any questions just ask in the comments :)
@MollieznLolliez thanks! The character in question is Ruby Gillman. How do you section off each group of hair/spikey bit? Like do you divide the hair into pie slices, or do you have to do the upper and lower layers separately?
@TheRogueCommand keep referring back to a photo. I section it off according to a photo. All at once. Then you can crimp/backcomb the section from there. :)
@MollieznLolliez once its sectioned off, do you only keep it bound at the tips, or along the whole thing if its a longer wig?
@TheRogueCommand ohh I see. For longer wigs you can tie top and bottom. More near the top as if you can only tie in one area. As when you brush future parts on it if you only have bottom tied it can caused the wig to get tangled. If super long (I did for my raiden) I think I tided 3 times each strand.
I ordered a Rui Kamishiro wig, when it arrives im gonna try this tutorial :D
Good luck! Any questions pls just let me know (I had just - in last 30 minutes) uploaded a new wig tutorial. It has a few more things on. I'd advise watching that as well when you have 13 minutes free). :D
@@MollieznLolliezOkay!! Thank you so much for letting me know :D
Um shopping link please😅
thank you so much! This is going to help so much with my harribel cosplay!!
So glad it can help you. Have fun cosplaying
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you!!
No problem. Glad you like it and hope it can help you with wigs. Appricate your comment :)
Such a cool wig! Thanks for the tutorial! :D
No problem! Happy I could possible help :)
This is an AMAZING tutorial, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!
No worries. So glad I could help. I have released another video (tartaglia wig tutorial) which has a few more tips in it. Feel free to watch that if you have time :) any questions just comment
This is soo helpful! You go over all of the steps and pros & cons so we’ll!! Thank you so much!
So glad you find it helpful. I plan to make some more tutorials as I learn more. :) I remember I watched a tutorial video once which really helped me and I wanted to help others like it helped me :)
That was a good tutorial. Thank you.
Glad you liked it and no problem. Happy to help :)
So helpful! ❤
So glad it helped you. Currently making a tartaglia wig tutorial, with a few more tips involved. :)
Goodwick wig styling
I appreciate you going from start to end of the tutorial, i dont see many eesteam with the fabric steam to get specific volume but i may try that as i started my first wig last weekend and am going back and trying to continue where i left off
The fabric steam can just help reform any stubborn bits of hair which are comming out at the wrong angle. It's not so much volume. It's a crimper that does that.
It can also be good nearer the end to steam where you have sprayed with got2b as for some reason I find it helps to solidify it.
@@MollieznLolliez well watching your video made me realize as a newbie to this too that I don't have to rigidly follow a guide
I re-steamed a bit I kind of messed up and went back and restyled it and now it looks so good (so far that is).
I'm combining crimping and teasing
Just whatever works or makes the most sense to me within reason.
I added volume in the beginning with the fabric steamer by turning the wig upside down and steaming it, let it dry, then styled, I heard it helps with volume
@ViktorErikFade ohh that could help yes! And no you don't have too follow a guide. There are many techniques out there that can work and help! The only thing I have learn is thar I'd advise not crimping on a peice of hair which is already sprayed with lots of got to be hair spray. As it makes it a bit weird. But other than that any order works. Have fun experimenting and learning :)
@ViktorErikFade but the best way to learn in my opinion is to mess a bit up, then try to figure out a way around it. And you will find a method/style that works for you :)
@@MollieznLolliez all I know is I'm trying my best haha . Yes thankfully I didn't use got to be glued hair spray yet much as I was kinda scared tbh.
Also if your wondering I'm trying to make a version of knives from stampede hair, doing a manga outfit cosplay of him but his newer hair seemed like a decent challenge for a newbie who's never styled wigs before.
I'm hoping my rabbit trail of comments disappears soon xD
I've been everywhere excitedly talking about my cosplay journey for knives like a dork
i will be using this guide over and over. I just did my first style job on a baizhu wig and now i have a thoma one to do which is more spiky. Thanks a lot for the tutorial, it is very helpful.
So so glad you have found it helpful. I have done a childe tutorials. Which goes over simular stuff but I did add a new product and say a few more tips if that helps. Any questions just ask :)
Thank you so much Moota!! This is gonna help me out so much and not just for the fem Childe fade framing spikes. I am also gonna try using this with Yoimiya!
I'm so glad it going to help you! I'm actually making a tutorial for a childes wig now, should be out in two weeks possible earlier. That has a few more tips I have learnt. :)
@@MollieznLolliezI can't wait for it!!!!
I needed this because I'm styling my own wig for my Jing Yuan cosplay(a lot of spikes, too!)
:D i hope it helps you style yohr wig. Any questions just let me know. I have also just realised another video about restyling (around a dehya wig). At the end I used a new product to help make spikes firmer. Id definatly recommend using that too. I explain how I use it in the otger video. With a few tips about how to dry your hair when you are styling
Enjoy your Jing Yuan Cosplay :)
This is wonderful and helpful, I’m not new to cosplay but I am new to wig styling and I’ve learnt a lot from this video. Thanks for sharing!
I'm so so glad it was able to help you. I did a tartaglia tutorial and it covers a few extra points if ure interested.
Any questions just ask
Is it just me who LOVES crimp marks
That's totally fair! I have seen alot of great wigs with crimp marks! If you want crimp marks really visible hold for a bit longer with the crimper and done brush out so much :)
Thank you for the knowledge! This is very helpful, I'd love to see a video of you styling Blade HSR wig in the future
No worries!
I don't play much of HSR (I did for like a week and then ran out of time). Is I wanted to cosplay anyone from HSR it would be geopard (love that guy).
But I'll keep that in consideration. If I ever do blade I will make a video. Another of the techniques are the same though and can be applied to most wigs :)
If you have any questions just comment and I'll try and help/give me more ideas on what to cover in future videos :)
@@MollieznLolliez Any wig styling tutorials would be beneficial to watch 🧐, we'll be waiting
Very interesring to see how you do this! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it :D
This is going to be so helpful :) i am very lucky because i was provided my wig supplies, which i am very thankful for, and i am going to start cosplaying and will be styling my first wig! this was super simple and super helpful so ill definitely be returning to this video when my cosplay comes in ❤️
I'm so glad this will help you. If you have any questions please just ask in the comments. I have uploaded another video since which looks at a few more things. But pls let me know if you need any advice. I wish you goodluck with styling your first wig. I remember I did mine first wig last year in march. :)
@@MollieznLolliez thank you ^_^ i'm going to be styling a wig for sebastian michaelis so i hope it turns out well
@@inmyrestlessdreamss Great charater! I have cosplayed him and ciel! :D best of luck!!!
@@MollieznLolliezAA thank you!! :)
FINALLY, I found a tutorial on how to style my wig bois. Thanks so much for this 🙏
So glad it was able to help you. And hopefully the mothods i used can be used for many other wigs :)
@@MollieznLolliez oh yes! Definitely 🙂 I feel like I’ve learned enough from this, and it’s making me feel pretty confident of trying it out for the first time.
@@Anon_chin i wish you the best of lucky styling. And remember its all a learning process. I will add in terms of money if you cant afford all the bits then dw about a steamer :)
I want to wait till I’m at least 14 to cosplay but I’m 12 at the moment and I have been learning about cosplays and how to do them since I was 11 :)
Never to early to start learning :D
Thank you! Can you do more of these wig styling videos? I’ve been trying to learn how to style my own wigs since its rlly expensive to commission others 😢
Yes of course. I will be redoing Dehya. And may do a restyling video if you want
I also have a cyno wig comming so could possible do him. :)
Is there anything particular you want to see?
@@MollieznLolliez omg im looking forward to your future videos!
I’m planning to buy another xiao wig but im afraid to mess up his bangs 😭
@@flowerss.992 just do a little bit at a time if you wanna cut. Then try on and see how it fits your face. Then try again. To make his bangs stand up, using a steamer is a good option. Like i did for al's spike :)
Looks wonderful! Also loved to see noragami in the background at one point 😊
Hehe you saw what anime I was watching xD observant
Good job :D
Thank you :D hope its able to help some people
Looks really good! What temperature do you use for your straightener/crimper?
I’m struggling with getting my Xiao wig to hold a crimp or shape using any heat at all…
I only have a cheap crimper and straightener. So only has on or off with no temperature. They say 175°C is normal temp. Hope this helps. :)
999th like! Thank you for the tutorial! ^_^
Hehe thank you!!!!! And no worries. Hope it was able to help you :D
This is a super nice tutorial!! May I know what is the little rings you used to section out the spikes?
Hey! Yes they are just little rubber bands. Just look up small hair rubber bands. :) glad it might beable to help you
My wig has got crazy flyaways and generally feels too ‘slippery’ or shiny,, is there a way to get rid of that without crimping or the famed fabric softener bath?
(I’m allergic to fabric softener and my wig isn’t heat proof)
I know people have used baby powder to help reduce the shine. :)
Let me know if you need anymore help.
Thanks for the tutorial! This might be a stupid question, however I was wondering if a flat iron would also work to crimp the wig? I sadly don’t own a crimping iron so using a flat iron would be my only option. :/
No such thing as a stupid question. A straighter won't do the same thing as a crimp. Infact it does the opposite. If you have a crimped wig and want to undo it you straighten it.
My crimp cost around 12 pounds from amazon. Its only cheap but does the job.
You also don't have to crimp a wig but I does help with styling and volume.
First of all, thank you so much for this video! I'd just like to ask, what kind of hairspray should be used for wig styling? I personally have a volume hairspray at home, but I guess I'd rather need some kind of fixation-spray or something like that, any recommendations maybe?
Got2b hairspray (can find on amazon or ebay or in some stores) :D. I use the yellow version. But have heard the dark green bottle of got2be is good. Im so glad you liked this video :)Got2b hairspray (can find on amazon or ebay or in some stores) :D. I use the yellow version. But have heard the dark green bottle of got2be is good. Im so glad you liked this video :)
Got2be is good for wigs i find. I think they have a volume Version (but i dont know how good that is - if you do crimp then that will help add the volume). :)
I put a link to the one i used in the description. But may beable to get slightly cheaper else where ❤
@@MollieznLolliez Thanks a lot! I bought the yellow Got2b and it works wonders.
@@crunchycres Brilliant, im so glad!
what if you don’t own a crimper? is crimping the wig required to like give it that look or good quality?
I would really advise getting a crimper. I did it with a cimper to begin with and the results just are not as good. You could back comb a bit. But to hold the shape I find crimping works the best. My crimper was like 12 on amazon
hii! i dont have a steamer, is there an alternative for it? tysm for the tutorial btw!! v useful
You don't need a steamer. Id say that is the one tool you don't need. It can just help reform the fibres. Just try and go over with hair dryer. The heat from the steam is what helps to reposition the fibres and its just more gentle than a hair dryer, as well as help bits stick together but just keep doing over the spikes with hairspray and hairdryer and you should be good. :) really glad the tutorial helped
This is super hard
If you have any questions or struggle at any point just comment and I'll try and help! You can do it!!! It's all a learning process remember. :)
When you hair dry with a hair blower, is the temperature hot or cool? Super new to this and tried styling but found that the wig strands got dry and frizzy 😢
Hey! I use a hotter setting but have power/pressure down on my hair dryer. To help dry without fully pushing out of place. Crimping came make it a bit dryer, but really helped with holding it style I find. If it's too frizzy you can straight the top layer to make it look neater, but want to keep some of that crimp in. If you find it too dry maybe turn crimper down next time. Sometimes for some of the frizz bits I do give a little trim at the end. Feel free to ask any questions. :)
@@MollieznLolliez thank you so much!! I’ll give it another try. Your Alhaitham wig looks soooooooo good! You are my inspiration ✨
@lightly8496 thank you so much for the compliment!!! I'm so so glad I have helped to inspire you
When you use a crimper, do you have to use a specific temperature?
My crimper is only a cheap one from amazon, so I cant actually change or adjust the heat. It only has one setting. I have attached the link of one i have in description. May tell you what heat it is(i know its quite hot as i have accidently burn myself a little, so its not low - pls check if your wigs are heat proof, most cosplay wigd are :) ). But id advice getting or having a bigger crimper, mines so small and takes so long xD.
If you worried about the heat, test it on a bit of the wig which isnt visible. I would say make sure not to spray it before crimping (if its wet whildt crimping it can affect the wig).
Hope this helps and goodluck!
What material is the wig? Im planning on styling my synthetic xinyan wig but im scared to ruin it with heat or bad hair spray
Nornally when you buy a wig it will say if its heat resistant. Most cosplays wigs are. Check where you brought it from. But the wig i brought is synthetic hair, not real :)
You can allways cut a little bit off and test it.
Its allways good to test new products you plan to hse on a unseeable part of the wig. To see if it does anything bad.
One of my childe wigs, i restyled about 12 times. Its fried ngl. But thats becaused of constant restyling. A wig can only take so much. Hope this helps
Question - if I don’t have a crimper, is there an alternative I can use?
You don't NEEED a crimper. It can just help fluff up and hold the shape you style it too. You can also back comb a bit (I personally struggle with this).
My crimper only cost me like 12 pounds from amazon. If u where interested in getting one.
But a crimper is the only think that will crimp the hair. But isn't a have to do step. But I have found my wigs last longer and look more defined if I do crimp.
Hope this helped a bit
@@MollieznLolliez okay thanks! I’ve heard people say that you can use a hair straightener instead to give it volume but I wasn’t sure if it was true or not.
@itznekochan a hair straighter will straighten the hair, basically doing the opposite of give volume. There could be a way to use it to give volume that I don't know off. But it doesn't add volume that I'm aware off. Sorry I can't help you there.
Could you explain the difference between crimping and teasing? I can tease the wig so I'm not sure if I should invest in a crimper
(opened ended question anyone please answer 😭😭)
Hello! Sorry just seen this. Teasing can really help fluff up a wig. And I think can look more natural. But personally I find it doesn't hold as well. If you crimp a wig I find it alot easier to style. Crimping generates friction between the hair. And I beleive can add more volume. I've never been that good at teasing though.
It's all down to personal preference. There's no right or wrong. The Downside to Crimping is that it takes longer to do and can leave marks. But if you have the money to spare I'd definatly say its worth trying.
For any bits you really want to stand up I'd still recommend teasing the bottom a bit to help.
Hope this helps a bit
@MollieznLolliez thank you SOOO much I haven't been able to find a straight answer, and this is so useful I'm so grateful for your help 💕💕
@F_d no problem. I'm no expert at teasing so hard to do a comparison. Just comment on any of my videos if you need anymore help or have any questions on anything I do and I will try to help :)
Is the air from the hair dryer hot? Or do you set it to cool?
I only have 2 settings for heat. It's a cheap hair dryer.
But I usually do hotter settings but lower on the force of the hairdryer. (Pressure?? Not sure of world)
@@MollieznLolliez Ohhh I see. I’ve been having trouble with some spikes on my wig and I’m glad I came across your video. Thank you for answering! You’re very helpful to those who want to learn wig styling! 🫶🏻
@akizenbu5591 aww thank you so much! Any questions just ask. I also did a tartaglia wig tutorial. With covers a few more things. But follows the same process really. :)
