    Fyi sorry about my lip, I didn’t realize how distracting it was. I have anxiety and bite my lips really bad to the point that they bleed. If it’s really bothering you then don’t watch the next two reactions lmao

      My 10 year old son is autistic with developmental delay. He picks at his fingertips and when they bleed they don’t stop until after he’s left a mark around the house. So, as a father, I don’t mind if you pick , it could be tons worse 😊

    In Holden's vision he sees the nucleus send a beam through a ring that makes a star go nova, destroying the whole system. Ashford's very reasonable fear is that the nucleus is charging up to do the same thing to our sun.

      How do you tell a Saiyan when they went Super Saiyan? The glowing blond hair. And How do you tell Drummer is in badass mode, the killer eye shadow. Seriously though, our girl should rework her priority a little bit, paralyze from waist down, put eye shadow back on first before building herself some legs :D

    Why does the protomolocule talk to Holden? 2 reasons. 1) there is protomolocule on the Roci and 2) it contains Miller's memories which it is using to investigate and those memories know Holden.

    • @LrnecBuma
      @LrnecBuma 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also i think she has already seen the protomolecule has broken down miller and builds the miller we now see from him. And if he strays outside of what he is needed for he vanishes. But we saw a full miller last episode. So there is what the Protemolecule wants and what miller wants. So of course he going to go to Holden the 1 other person who was on Eros with him and knows what is really going on.

    • @operatorlink
      @operatorlink 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LrnecBuma I would also think that because from Miller's memories, the proto-molecule knows that Holden is the captain of the Roci. To get the Roci into the ring, it was much simpler just to get in contact with Holden.

    • @paulvale8531
      @paulvale8531 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Miller and Holden where irradiated together on Eros and the proto molecule would have been aware of their connection. This could have also helped Miller when he re entered Eros and made the connection with Julie. Holden also had 8 parents and I can see no other reason why that this was in his back story, unless it was used later.

    Ashford's plan is probably the best plan, the speed limit in the ring is too low, it'll take too long for anyone too escape and he cant nuke the station, so with what he knows the only option is to destroy the ring to save the whole solar system.

    • @pablom-f8762
      @pablom-f8762 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just realised Ashford has no direct experience with the protomolecule, how "like magic" it is. He is an old belter pirate, so he is as practical as it gets.

    • @krbkrbkrbkrbkrb
      @krbkrbkrbkrbkrb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Another important factor is that they saw the energy readings on the station change and it seems to be charging up. The science guy said it looked "like a rail gun charging." In Holden's vision we saw the station fire a weapon through a ring that caused the star in the ring to go supernova and burn the surrounding planets so we know what is going to happen if they do nothing.
      The station has a powerful weapon and the clock is ticking.
      Ashford's plan is solid. They can't destroy the station in time to save humanity but they might be able to damage the ring and close the portal. Closing the ring means that nobody gets out of the bubble, but as things stand none of them can get out and nobody from outside the ring is coming to save them.

    The protomolecule is pretty scary in itself, because it's powerful, has its own agenda and doesn't care if it paves over humanity in the process.

    @pablom-f8762 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Very nice analysis. About the protomolecule choosing Holden: a couple of episodes ago he asked Miller that question and he got "You have a ship. You are a tool that goes places and I'm a tool that finds things. We are tools." Also, there is a little blue goo between the cargo bay deck and the reactor below. I used to think it was needed for Miller to show up, but I reckon it is more like a locator beacon.
    Stay safe, enjoy season 4!

  • @Horesmi
    @Horesmi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Nah Ashford's plan is kinda reasonable. There is an active security system inside the ring, it's clearly violent, and Ashford knows no way of turning it off. So from his knowledge he's out of options.

    • @deadhead8323
      @deadhead8323 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree I think because inside the ring it contains tbe character we all love. It's easy to be resistant to accept such a plan. But given that he has no knowledge that the ring will see this as a threat he sees it as a viable and only option. I would back his plan if I had no knowledge of the whole thing. You sacrifice a few thousand including yourself to save billions of lives. That to me is a no brainer.

    • @CarlyNicole1
      @CarlyNicole1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Right but Holden is the one with first hand knowledge of the protomolecule and how it behaves, it’s easy to write him off as a mad man but he’s never been wrong. Why not TRY the first option that doesn’t condemn everyone to death you know? Then the backup plan could be to shoot the ray and kill everyone lmao

      It's like Holden said. We're like monkeys playing with a microwave. Fearful looking to destroy if we're hurt by it, using it if we find it useful. But never knowing or understanding it's purpose and when to step back and leave it be...

    • @marcc1830
      @marcc1830 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@CarlyNicole1 Ashford background is privacy/military, in his mind, it's like if there is a few percentage chance that whole humanity can be wipe out, it's either fight or flight. Flight is neither an option for the people in the bubble nor the rest of humanity out there. And the scientist is telling him that the station is charging up like a rail gun. There may be a few thousand souls within the ring station bubble, but all of humanity is out there, he is not going to risk all of humanity on any other options that he isn't sure about. For all he knows, Holden is either crazy or somehow compromise by the "aliens".
      FYI, they are using laser to communicate and the Behemoth got a large one.

  • @davebcf1231

    Early on when protomiller started appearing to Holden he actually told Holden why him. "I'm a tool that finds things. You're a tool that goes places." It picked Holden for no other reason than he's the captain of the ship. It understands he's the one who decides where the ship goes and needs him to go where it wants to "investigate."

    In the first seconds of the episode, the med bay screens displayed the full technical explanation of Clarissa's "supersoldier" implant, as well as how it evaded detection by normal medical scans. You have to freeze the screen to read it.
    Drummer loves Naomi, but it's unrequited.
    My new catch phrase for certain types of people: "Do you have a brain tumor?"
    Anna told Clarissa, "You don't get the easy way out" (you don't get to die).
    Ashford is coming up with the best plan he can ("Belter ingenuity") with time running out. He realizes that it's the threat to humanity now because they had become a threat to it. I would expect that the entire time until now they'd all been trying to break the hold on their ships, and know they're not going to solve that problem within seven hours.
    There is a blob of Protomolecule on the Roci. The Protomolecule has the knowledge of everyone who had been on Eros, and the strongest connection of anyone who had been on Eros with anyone on the Roci after the Ring was completed is Miller with Holden.

    Back on Earth, Anna told Colin the injured protestor that she was a doctor "of sorts." When she visits Clarissa in the brig, she says she lied by telling the jailers she was Clarissa's minister. She wasn't there to function as clergy. She had realized that Clarissa had long-untreated spiritual wounds, and she went there to tend them. The first step is to cut away the necrotic tissue causing the wounds to fester. To get below all the self-justification and assumptions and misplaced resentment clogging up the works. The barb about her father being a terrible person, and the question about the brain tumor, put Clarissa thinking on how her own father had been so cold to her, but when Ren had treated her with fatherly kindness, she had destroyed him and crushed his brain. The way she answered, with a single tear and a "No" so hollow it was barely audible, showed her remorse at killing Ren. She immediately tried to hide it under flippancy, but Anna wasn't having it. "You don't get the easy way out." Ultimately, the patient needs to heal on her own. The doctor just removes the impediments to that end.
    Later, overhearing Holden accept responsibility for having to save the human race, you could see Clarissa realizing that her assumptions about him had been flawed.
    The healing has begun.

    I think Carly missed the part where the scientist said the "station" was going to fire in 7 hours(which would destroy our entire Solar System), so that's why Ashford was trying to destroy the Ring... and also a few episodes ago it was revealed that it would take ships 7 months to get out of the Ring at the current speed limit.

  • @KeithDCanada
    @KeithDCanada 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Holdens vision and speech to Ashford over the nature of the Protomolecule and history of its creators tells us this:
    The creators used the bubble space to travel to remote areas of the galaxy through the ring. They encountered... something... in their travels and were eventually wiped out by it. In that fight for their lives, they used the nucleus in bubble space to fire a beam weapon into the star of any planetary system where their enemy was, using the ring, to wipe them out.
    Now that Ashford and the others are exploding nuclear weapons near the nucleus, it starts to regard them as not just an annoyance anymore, but a full and credible threat, and is now preparing to fire this same beam weapon through the Sol ring into our Sun and destroy this new enemy... us.

  • @Dj2xP
    @Dj2xP 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The bullets Gunny and her crew shot at Holden didn't work because they move faster than the speed limit and they weren't in one of those purple speed bubbles.
    After that one soldier threw a grenade, the Nucleus updated the speed limit inside the entire space bubble since now something that moves as fast as a thrown grenade also poses a threat.
    The Nucleus also chose the one who threw it to repair the damages. It's also possible of charging the blue laser that blows up a systems sun, if that isn't something that can be considered a weapon, what can?

    Ashford's logic is this. The protomolecule has stopped all their ships and set a speed limit on movement... but people are still able to see, which means light is still getting to our eyes, and they have already proved radio communication between the ships is possible, so light waves and sound waves are not affected by the speed limit.... thus a laser should still be able to be used normally.

    What a turnaround from your intro! Ashford IS being kind offering access of the Behemoth and about destroying the Ring even if they will be trapped. As a former "pirate" he always had to be a man of action. Plus I think he still has A LOT OF GUILT from watching his kid die in front of him long ago. Like he can redeem himself in his own eyes by this sacrifice.

  • @thontor
    @thontor 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The protomolecule is a tool that is sent out to distant solar systems to create the rings that connect back to the slow zone. The slow zone and the station in the middle of it are a separate thing. They are technically not “the protomolecule” even though they have the same creator. The station is separate tool there to protect the slow zone and it was used as a weapon to destroy solar systems as we saw in Holden’s vision.

    There is a lot of comparisons between working together and in isolation here.
    Last 2 episodes when Ashford and Drummer were trapped they were able to see each other were working towards a similar goal of belters standing at the table as a player taken seriously. Too often they acted to take for themselves. Off the back of that Ashford was able to do something selfless for everyone by spinning the drum.
    But now in isolation Ashford has what he wanted working with the inners. But what he thinks is a selfless act does not consult anyone else inside the Slow Zone. His greater good argument is biased. If Drummer was there she would not let that happen.
    Drummer is also struggling in isolation and trying to do everything herself to walk again. Holdon and Clarissia are also isolated from everything going on.
    Part of Drummers arc this season has been about her trying to lean on other people. She wants belters autonomy without compromise. And leading the bahemoth with Ashford effected that. By listening to Naiomi and helping her out. By working together she learns more about whats going on. When ashford listened to holden he thought he was mad.

  • @Norbert_Sattler

    You say the protomolecule is a tool... and that is not wrong. But it is also a weapon... and one of unimaginable power.
    The protomolecule can blow up entire suns, as can be seen in Holden's vision.
    The reason why "Miller" talked to someone on board of the Rossi is because the Rossi has a small piece of protomolecule on board, left behind by the Hybrid. This little piece works as a transceiver of sorts, apparently allowing this connection to happen. Why out of the Rossi's crew Holden was chosen for this contact is anyone's best guess.
    My guess is that it's because from what Miller (and thus the protomolecule) knows, Holden is the most likely of the crew to be both willing and able to futher the molecule's plan... whatever that might be.
    Also he's the Captain and the one the others are most likely to follow if he asks them to, even if they don't understand what's going on themselves.
    As for Julie's sister... She doesn't believe that her father did all those crimes (or I guess deluded herself into thinking that) and thus sees Holden as either someone who threw him under the bus for self-agrendising or a reckless idiot who charges in without thinking of the consequences of his actions and causes massive collateral damage through his thoughtless actions.
    When a man - and a very famous one at that - is convicted with basically war crimes and human experimentation it doesn't merely end with him being in prison, but his entire reputation ruined, his family shamed and a very large number of his former employees to lose their jobs and lifelyhoods.
    And she seems to also have a massive inferiority complex over being the unremarkable child always in the shadow of the exceptional older sister and the neglect she suffered from her father. Then she might also have some psychological issues over the last conversation she had with her sister being a fight.
    Not to mention that she found out through the media that her father is supposedly responsible for her sister's death.
    Is it any wonder she went pretty much insane? People have become serial killers or ran amok over less that what she was put through.

    The Protomolecule is a tool, yes, but can be used in different ways.
    The same way we can build a kitchen knife to eat a nice steak, but we can also build a sword to kill.
    The same way the protomolecule can be used to build roads (The Ring) and some security programs (The Nucleus). And that security program has to keep the peace.
    Where? You will find out in the next episode.
    Or you already know.
