Oh damn it guys I’m trying to type an assignment due Friday and this alert just popped up on my phone. I want nothing more than to be done with this semester and get to building night goblins and black orcs on squares because of you guys. I’m having to get creative and I got some Bloodbowl black orcs to be my front line models with extra blorc weapons. I also got a Bloodbowl troll who’s chucking the goblin to be my goblin doomdiver, the extra Bloodbowl goblins will be lined up on a big base to be chucked next 😂
The best thing about the Troll Horde is that Big Smartz doesn't make you not stupid. It makes you slightly less stupid. Significant and hilarious difference.
Thanks for the video, fellas! I've only used him in one game, but here's how I kitted out my Black Orc Warboss on Boar Chariot. A great weapon with the crew, a Shield, Giant Blade, Trollhide Trousers, and the Grisly Trophy Rack
Love your guys’ videos and review of different armies! I’d be excited to see you guys deep dive into Bretonnians and the state of where they are at in the game.
Great job guys, really like the deep dives, keep it up. Really looking forward to the Dwarf one, just in time for the arcane journal release hopefully 😁
My favourite part about the Troll Magic template spells, like the vortex, is that they only damage enemy units. While most vortex spells that I can recall specify that they'll hit any enemy or friendly unit they move over, the troll magic spells specify that they only hit enemy models
I eager to try out the Troll princess. I'll be trying her as a level 1 , and also I'll try level 2 with buzgobs knobbly staff for rerolling one casting roll per turn
An interesting synergy I don't think you pointed out, is the ability to take Troll Hordes as Allies into WoC and Brayherds to boost your chaos trolls and make their stupidity manageable and boost them with troll magic. Also there is a generic magic item(the Wizard's Hat?) that makes a character a Lvl 1 wizard from any lore, but also stupid, that suddenly becomes playable for some possibly interesting combos.
Love a deep doiv! Can i tempt you to go a little deeper into the troll cave? You mention you used an troll horde defanged it a bit. What? How? I need to know more!
my Horde (2003) was based around using a variety of types of units, I pretty much dropped or added depending on my oppenant, only thing I wish had were the squigs lost interest when they changed night goblins to a smaller one part set (thank god they went back) I never had any Black Orcs it really limited my broad range and didnt go with backstory. I only used giant (scratchbuilt) against non missile armies and wyvern (scratchbuilt) for larger than 2000pts Boar riders, biguns, boyz and forty night gob unit were my main units, Wolfies, rarely had chariots, but had my standard 2 bolters and catapult/
Absolutely loving the faction overviews and deepdives (the former for there frantic bombastic pace and these for there more thoughtful, but still humerous analysis. Speaking of which - when are you guys gonna get to my skelly boiz (TK)? jk jk - keep up the great work guys. Probably the two people who convinved me back into the hobby as an adult just recently for TOW hype.
Great vid, meanwhile In Australia we are still not allowed to buy the O&G Arcane journal, or cards or dice from the online store. Even the epub is unavailable because I guess they have limited stock? Seems they don’t want anyone here to play the game lol
Looking at the top lists from the first Old World GT, there seems to be one common denominator of the meta: every top list has DRAGONS! Would it be possible for you guys to do an entire video on how to deal with Dragons and combos/strategies each army could use to counter them please?
1:11:00 regarding a ninja wolf, I'm sure a more intelligent man than myself could come up with some kind of pun revolving around a wolf in sheep's clothing...
Rob glad you touched on MSU trolls, I think units of 2 are great to still get close order. How’s that going to work for rule of 3/6? Are Troll Mobs a unit or are each type of troll their own type? Like under rule of 3, can I take 9 units of trolls if they are different types?
I'm wondering: Can you make a Nomadic Waaagh exclusively out of Goblin Wold Riders and Goblin characters on Giant Wold and everyone has Ambushers? Is that like the 40k alpha strike meme army?
@@SquareBasedOldWorld oh no doubt it’s massively risky at best and just god awful at worst, it’s just for the fun. At least you can select the table edge. And I guess Kiknik cannot use his +1/-1 if he himself is not on the table either…
one question I have for this book and going forward. The wizarding hat says you may generate a spell from the lore of your choosing. Can this generate a spell from the troll lore and other speciality lores going forward?
No reason to think you couldn't. It's hilarious to think you could take the signature spell to cure yourself of the effects of... the Wizarding hat lol. Though it IS a way to make yourself stupid. So maybe you roll up the conveyance spell and get a really expensive yet Hilarious unintended low power combo.
I took my Dwarfs against Troll Horde last weekend and had an enjoyable game but came up against a strange interaction. We couldn't find anything defintive in the rules, so I'm curious how you two would've played it. A unit of River Trolls (W4) was charging a unit of Irondrakes. The champion has a Trollhammer Torpedo. The Trolls have already taken 3 wounds, so one troll is effectively on 1 wound remaining. The Irondrakes stand and shoot. I roll the attacks simultaneously and get to a situation where I have caused two unsaved wounds with the Irondrakes' Drakeguns and an unsaved wound with the Trollhammer Torpedo (Multiple Wounds D3), I have rolled a 3 for the Wounds. My opponent wants to allocate the wound from the torpedo first, effectively negating 2 wounds because the wounds do not carry over. I'd obviously rather it go the other way. In other game systems, it might talk about how rolling dice simultaneously is a shortcut and each thing is actually one-at-a-time, or you roll all weapons of a certain type first etc. but I couldn't find anything in ToW which would rule this one way or another. The closest thing was this on page 102: Some models have more than one Wound on their profile. Should a unit of such models lose Wounds, you must remove as many whole models as possible. In other words, Wounds are lost by a single model until its Wounds characteristic is reduced to zero. Wounds are then lost by the next model, and so on. You cannot spread the loss of Wounds throughout the unit to avoid casualties. But the counter argument is that allocating wounds in particular order isn't "spreading" them. Definitely a weird one.
Ok so as far as I know, and I'm open to being wrong here so others may correct me - but warhammer actually works one dice at a time. So it's actually pick a unit and you theoretically go model by model going through the shooting phase steps. The section on fast dice rolling is what makes it seem like there's big batches of dice. That's just because going one by one would be inefficient. So as the controlling player you would be shooting with the models that made more sense first had you done this right. Ie: the single wound shots would be resolved and then the trollhammer torpedo at the end.
But yeah the answer to your question lies in reading the shooting phase rules literally: pick a unit, pick A model, etc. And is explained by reading the fast dice rules in that section. Hope that makes sense.
@@SquareBasedOldWorld I think the common-sense reading is what you've said, and I agree. I couldn't find anything concrete to say that it's one dice at a time in this edition, though. I think it _maybe_ implies that the different batches happen one-after-another in the order of the shooting player's choice, but I don't think it's explicit. And what it comes to "unsaved wounds are applied...", I think you could assume that it's in the same order as the batches but it doesn't talk about the batches past the To Wound roll (even though it's important in the Armour save, particularly with Armour Bane kicking around...). Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's a silly noodly little interaction.
This dive was so deep that Shaun Connery defected from the USSR to the Square Bassed podcast

I used to play Gorefist in AOS and have always missed that army since I sold them. Think I’ll be bringing them back with nomads!
Black Ork Warboss is the meanness with Ogre Blade and Talisman of protection. Riding a wyvern, of course ;)
Another great deep dive chaps, can’t wait for Dwarfs!
Genuinely also pumped
Oi! Dis Way! is a great rule that makes trolls viable in the presence of spells that remove the ability to use inspiring presence.
Banner of butchery has good synergy with nomadic waaagh boar boys. It’ll buff the impact hits of the boars too!
Love the content! Just waiting for chaos dwarfs deep dive 😜
The troll horde is the reason I play 20 Irondrakes!
(Not really… but if I ever get matched va one I will be happy of having them I think)
I eager to try out the Troll princess. I'll be trying her as a level 1 , and also I'll try level 2 with buzgobs knobbly staff for rerolling one casting roll per turn

This is probably a good idea....
Let's get Bassed!!
You guys had not talked about vanguard boarboyz. I mean they are basically having good chance of charging enemy line in standard game turn 1

1:11:00 regarding a ninja wolf, I'm sure a more intelligent man than myself could come up with some kind of pun revolving around a wolf in sheep's clothing...
do both spiders and the riders have poisoned attacks?
Important question for Val... Where can i get that tshirt? Its glorious!
Does a squig rider count for the mounted requirement for this list?

No. That's a tough thing about the hard rule of 3. In the Square Based standard I think we'd rule it a bit differently tho
How to ninjafy a wolf... Little hessian bag socks on their paws? I might just buy some wolf riders to make that actually...
Question: The impact hits from the boars for Hit 'em Fast, Hit 'em Hard are S3 are S4? Impact hits are unmodified S, so I would think S3, right?
Val's O&G enthusiasm is infectious. Val, stop being so O&G biased!
I'm O&G Bassed
Probably a good chunk of the reason I'm collecting them, also super enthused for nomadic Waagh
Do you think french would work on a big block of black orcs?
Brets arcane characters: 2/3 can go with any army
are animosity tests a thing any more?
Nope. Got replaced by "impetuous "
I'm wondering: Can you make a Nomadic Waaagh exclusively out of Goblin Wold Riders and Goblin characters on Giant Wold and everyone has Ambushers? Is that like the 40k alpha strike meme army?
I.... don't know? Maybe? Would be dangerous because like that meme you could get zoned

@TheDishWasher there's nothing in his rule that says he needs to be on the table or even alive. Just that he's in the army.
Shoulda taken those great weapons Val haha
It was a choice made for the benefit of the viewer, not the hewer
@@SquareBasedOldWorld indeed, i merely jest. I enjoyed it a lot ☺️
Two orcs wearing the thinking cap... :P
