Note to Self :P (5 Tips by Matt):
    1. Start with a Daily Log of what you need to do that day. Start Simple
    2. Keep a Master Task for every single week
    3. Track a personal habit that you want to see progress on or improve every single day/week/month
    4. Beginner Specific: Start with Weekly Spreads first
    5. Make the Bullet Journal (BuJO) yours! Keep it minimal, simplistic and structured.

    I like the collaboration.
My tip: Before you start a list collection, consider how, or whether, you will use the info later. Any time I start a list for its own sake, it gets abandoned as soon as I turn the page.

I use my BuJo almost exclusively for school, and what I like to do is timebox: I have a list of specific tasks for homework assignments, I make a box of how long I think it would take me to complete it, and then color in how long it actually took. That way I become more aware of how optimistic I am or am not about alloting my time and I can plan better and more accurately :D #bulletjournalplease

Matt, I want to thank you for encouraging me to get back to journaling. I stopped because I was going thru some emotional roller-coasters. I should have remembered it is meant to help me thru anything. But watching you reminded me I am the driver of my own development and bullet journaling is the tool I can use. Thank you for everything you do. I greatly appreciate you.

I started bullet Journaling this June and it has been a life saver. I discovered Amy this month and you today. I am so excited to get my life together. #bulletjournalplease. My top tip for bullet journal is to always have a monthly reflection page. You really have to reflect what went right and what went wrong during the month so you can adjust and become better

Hello Matt and everybody in the community! I’m
So glad I found your channel. I come from Amy Landino’s community. I don’t miss any of her videos. I started my first BuJo in Jan 2018 and it was great for a while but I found it hard to be consistent because of my own perfectionism (not proud of). What resonated more to me in this video was that it doesn’t have to look pretty because it is only for me. I’m currently using the Day Designer planner and it really helps me to keep track of dates and appointments or anything that has a set time. The weekly spread is really simple and neat, but there is no place for me to write down any brain dump or tracking. So
For now I just grabbed a notebook I started this year and this will be my BJ until I can get a new one #lockdown . Thank you so much for all your videos. They are really helpful 😊

I don’t know if this would be classed as one tip, or multiple little ones. But my tip is: The way you work changes, you change, your ideas change, therefore your bullet journal will change too, and this is ok! #bulletjournalplease

Keeping it simple and functional. I like the flexibility of adapting bullet journaling to what you need from it. There's not one right way to do it.

    • @DawnMontgomeryAuthor
      @DawnMontgomeryAuthor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Treat it like a giant experiment. Have checkboxes at the bottom of spreads where you mark whether you'll use this spread again or not. It's a flexible system so don't get caught up in what it "should" be or why "this method" of tracking either doesn't work for you or no longer works for you. You will change and so will your needs, so let it be your sandbox for productivity.

  • @MeAVE243

My bullet journal tip goes along with "make it your own." I put information that I am going to need to reference again and again, such as a phone number I don't want in my phone, a list of jobs I've done as a contractor with dates (for taxes), or other a book list for professional development. I'm not as good about micro-logging an index in the front, so that makes it easier flip through just a few pages in the back instead of the larger number and variety of pages in the front.
I really appreciate the master task list because I am always hoping to get more done.
I also do use Google calendar on my phone for appointments so I can get the reminders. This has become even more important while working from home during the pandemic!!
I'm a fan of both you and Amy, and it's so cool to see you work on a collab! :)

I've watched both you and Amy for a couple years. I started bullet journaling in 2018. Originally it was too artsy and time consuming, but when I went more minimal, it became more useful. My tip is to color-code your notes. In mine, for example, all personal tasks and appointments are purple, all health & fitness are red, business is green, family/friends/home is blue, and volunteer/church/community is black. It adds a touch of color, but more so it let's me quickly see when my life is or isn't in balance, and let's me find notes much faster. #bulletjournalplease

I dont have a top tip because I havent started yet lol. But my fav of yours was def the habit tracking and not trying to overcomplicate it when you're a beginner! Thanks for the tips!

Here is my tip: Instead of making many different lists for work tasks versus home tasks, birthdays, memories, etc... I use a different symbol and/or color so that the different tasks stand out. For example, for birthdays I use a balloon symbol, for work tasks I use a square instead of a dot. For memories I use a triangle. #bulletjournalplease

I’ve been a subscriber to both your and Amy’s channels for awhile, so it’s lovely to see you guys collab! My tip is to only put in your journal what works for you! My bujo is more of a notes catch-all, since I have a separate planner. Know that bullet journaling looks different for everyone-that’s the beauty of it! #bulletjournalplease

Thank you for all these lovely tips! I'm new to bullet journaling and my layout is quite simple. My top tip is to journal the night before and write in what you are grateful for, what you have accomplished, and what you look forward to. These three sections motivate me each new day to be thoughtful about my emotions and actions throughout the day. #bulletjournalplease

I definitely think that the habit tracker is something that is super important for the bullet journal that is really a game changer. I used the habit tracker last year for several months and then I stopped, thinking that now that I had the habits developed, but soon after I once again stopped using habits I had spent months developing. I finally restarted using the habit tracker at the start of the summer and I am amazed at the difference. Thanks for the tips! #bulletjournalplease

My favorite tip is making bullet journal mine. There is a lot of pressure when you search Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook for bujo aesthetic. I may add color depending on how I feel but mostly simply jotting things down is my forte. Knowing that that's just fine is refreshing. Thanks for the videos, Matt and Amy.

I follow both you and Amy - my two favorites coming together is so amazing! I love a simple planner. I use a Full Focus Planner and use bullet journal as my task master. I like the FFP bc it has a lot of these things built in already - habit tracker, goals tracker, etc. but then I also enjoy the free flow of keeping my tasks in a bullet journal. I still keep it very minimal and simplistic. #bulletjournalplease

My favorite tip is to binge watch your BJ videos. 😀Seriously, though I found you at the beginning of the year when I started using my BJ and your videos have been incredibly helpful.
The biggest tip I've learned is to not try to trying to chunk out sections of my journal (kind of like your tip about not writing out a whole month). What I found was as I tried to estimate how many pages I needed for a section (e.g. for coaching notes), I was invariably short. I'm now putting notes in at the end of each week and using the index a lot more. Saves from waste which is it's own stressor! #bulletjournalplease

I've watched Amy for a long time and I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos. I'm on my 4th bullet journal. I don't do weekly or monthly spreads but rather, just dedicate a page a day to my tasks. I have several categories I divide them into - Health, Home, Work, Self Care. I include dinner plans and a place for a daily gratitude at the bottom. #bulletjournalplease

Just saw Amy's video so have come over here from her channel. I've never used bullet journaling but I'm keen to start. I really like Amy's calendar blocking which I now use which is awesome. Hopefully I can get some great tips from your channel on bullet journaling.
    # bulletjournalplease
My favourite tip has to be a tie between habit tracker and weekly spread. Because I'm just starting with bullet journaling I think by following your tip of focusing on one habit to track to start with and to focus on a simple weekly spread I will get some quick and easy wins which will help me to stick with it.
Now to go find an old journal to use to give this a go!

Loved your time tracker video (from a while back)! #bulletjournalplease My bullet journal tip is allow yourself even just five minutes to journal. I’d feel guilty at times feeling like I needed to spend that time on other things. Five minutes. Go! It’s worth it!

  • @TwistedFoolPT
    @TwistedFoolPT 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Loved this collaboration! Ive followed both channels for a while now and these videos couldn't have come at a better time. You're right when you say just start small and simple. The times I've failed to keep my journal was mostly due to a) pressure to keep these ellaborate spreads that took me forever to set up and then b) made me feel guilty when I wouldn't fill them up or fill them up in what would be considered an unpretty way. Only when I figured out that I actually need my bullet journal to work for me first and then if I can make it look visually appealing that's a bonus. So that's my top tip. Too bad that now I enjoy having a minimal journal so much I don't even bother with doodles, stickers, colours and all that jazz. A black pen and eventually a ruler is all I need.
I've always wanted to try a BaronFig notebook so... fingers crossed! #bulletjournalplease

    Notes to myself:
    1. begin
    2. start again as many times as needed
    3. keep it simple
    4. weekly reviews to keep me on track
    5. set a main goal to track and the rest go with the flow

My top bujo tip (mostly for myself) is to keep it simple to avoid the overwhelm. When i first discovered this method years ago i bought fancy pens, stickers, paper clips, stamps etc and got discouraged when i remembered I'm no artist. I lost sight of all the ways my bujo can help me because i was obsessed with making it post worthy. Keeping it simple allows me to actually use it to be more productive and proactive in my life. I also have an addiction to notebooks😁

I think my biggest "a-ha" moment for journalling was discovering the rolling weekly spread and creating "sections" for weekly habits, goals, and notes. It really made journaling easier and more productive. I also started to gamify it by adding "experience points" for me to track and level up.
Thanks for your channel! It has been a great inspiration and resource. Also.. shout out to Nashville. lol

Thanks for your video!, great tips!.
One of the ways I use my "squares journal", is writing in black what is pending for that day, and right underneath, in blue, what happened that day. In this way, I can keep a diary for memories, or in case of need, to find some past information.

Hi from the Czech Republic! I am a big fan of Amy´s videos. Her productivity tips are great for me. And I know that if Amy says, your video is good, it is good. Thanks for your tips! Now I need to watch all your bullet journals ideas. :D I love how simple it looks and your tips are not just for pretty drawings but also useful, you know, for life. Actually I wanna to start bulet journaling for very long time but I´m kind of perfectionist and it ends everytime because I´m not as simplistic. I can´t wait to start now.
Thanks, Matt. Looking forward to your next video :-)

Journaling has gotten me through some really rough parts in my life. It has also helped me maintain a 4.0 gpa at school. My number one tip to anyone who is starting or currently journaling is to change up your system when you get in a rut. I’ve tried tracking my every hour to a master list, and I finally figured out what works for me (for now). I’m almost finished with my current bullet journal and I would love #bulletjournalplease

  • @susiebolt4021

Great tips! My favorite tip is #5: make it yours. I was initially attracted to bullet journaling because the journal is completely flexible. I can finally have a planner that fits my unique needs, with no random pre-printed pages that never get used. And I can change my bujo as my needs change. Another tip: think outside the box. I play D&D and figured out a spell cheat sheet layout that is super helpful in combat situations. A bujo can be used for all sorts of purposes beyond just planning and goal tracking. #bulletjournalplease

Thanks for a brilliant video (both of you!) I am new to this and have yet to get a proper journal, so I would love to win a notebook! My tip is to have the month at a glance with an overview of events/appointments, spending and habit trackers. I use different colours when I have completed tasks/habits. It is very simple but at a glance I can see my progress.

  • @MindyC

Tip for beginners is to use a structured journal (e.g. full focus planner) in this way you just go straight in to writing & don’t have to think about how to create your own. Once you get the feel of it, then use a blank journal and start doing it your own way. #bulletjournalplease

  • @lizbeth8498
    @lizbeth8498 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I loved the tip about doing a weekly spread at a time to avoid blank pages, definitely my top pick. That’s something that’s happened with me and your right, it really is discouraging and kinda makes me not want to continue. I would love to pick back up and get into a routine with a bullet journal again! #bulletjournalplease

  • @Craftywithwords
    @Craftywithwords 4 ปีที่แล้ว

My favorite bullet journal tip is to block out a specific time during the day to journal. I schedule my day out about an hour before I start working. That gives me time to think about what’s on my plate for the day, review yesterday, look ahead to the rest of the week and review my goals. I do this EVERY morning at the same time. On days where I have a lot to do, I schedule in a second check in after lunch to make sure my priorities haven’t changed, or to adjust to how quickly or slowly my work is progressing. Some things just don’t take as long as I think they will or maybe I grossly underestimated how much time I would need. Rather than chalk the day up to a fail, I adjust. Then I don’t feel like a slacker or rush through my work to get it all done.

Thank you for great productivity videos. Thank you also for the #bulletjournalplease giveaway. My best bullet journal tip is to keep using identical spreads each week as long as they work for you. I heard another youtuber say that and it is so true! I've been using pretty much the same spread each week for months now and it makes it a no brainer to plan out my week. No excuse not to stick with it!

What I found starting off was just using what works (simple cheap notebook, ruler, pencil and pen). That and using what symbols I use out of habit already and expanding on it.

I'm an academic and my preferred note-taking method it the Bujo, but I also use a remarkable for notes that I need in a digital and searchable version, so all my notes from books that I may need for future research are taken there. Great video and colaboration of you two!! I've been watching you both quite a couple years and thank you so much for all the content and great information about bujos.
My personal tip for increase productivity is to create your personalized categories in your Bullet Journal Keys; for example with this quarantine my wife and I had to be on track with our 4 years old school virtual activities, my son's name is Felipe, so I created a key similar to a copyright symbol with the letter F in it... in this way is so much quicker for me to find in my bujo all the things related to my boy.
Thanks again, my best regards for you two!!

My tip: Keep at it. Even when I fall off, if I start again, I see progress. If I don't restart, I stay adrift. So keep starting again. #BulletJournalPlease

Great tips to get started on bullet journaling. I use my bullet journal to track my habits of drinking water and meditation- this really helps you stay motivated and on track to reaching your goals. Even if I miss tracking or recording for a day, I keep at it for the rest of the days. I set weekly or biweekly goals for myself to build the habit of using bullet journal and using it to get the life I want. #bulletjournalplease

Matt, so glad I found you through Amy Landino's channel. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. #bulletjournalplease. My top bullet journal tip is to create an index page so i can find any where my great ideas are within my journal.

Thanks for the tips. I find I'm more creative and clearer with life goals, tasks and recording historical events when I journal. I think about all of these years and how much I've put into digital. As I get older, lately I've been thinking about how much more important analog might be for legacy/ancestors/easier to find information. Certainly not as searchable as digital but prove to be a valuable resource for myself and family. #Bulletjournalplease

Just do it! Write something every single day even if it’s simply “I don’t feel like writing today”. Keep the habit!! It’s magical when consistent!

I love the bujo method! I started with habit tracking first and I realized i had been lugging around 3 or 4 notebooks and this helped me put everything in one and in an organized way! #bulletjournalplease

Thanks for collaborating on this! I loved the first two tips, daily tasks and the master task list! I definitely fell victim to the artsy bujo trends when I first got started, but I’m ready for a clean restart! #bulletjournalplease 🥰

First, I’d like to say that I love the simplistic way you do your bullet journal. I like using colors but I’m not an artistic person, so your method is what I’ve been looking for.
I’m quite new at planning and bullet journaling, so by now my favorites methods or top tips are planning by weeks and daily. First, I have a general view of my weeks goals, and then I make some daily arrangements.

Thanks Matt for these wonderful tips... specially the one recommending start small with the week planning at least and tailor specifically to you! Make it simple and in a way that works for you! That’s the best!
My tip will be to set aside a specific time on Sundays to work on your weekly planing so you can know ahead what are your plans and goals for the week ahead.

Yaaay, so happy to have found you through Amy's channel. I'm constantly working on different ways to maintain my everyday journal. Having an additional bullet journal would be great. I like how our everyday to-do lists need to be segregated from our weekly/monthly goals. Usually I write it in the last few pages of my everyday journal to keep track of them.

Great tips! Just officially started bullet journaling this year. It was hard for me to be consistent and these tips definitely helped a lot for me to create a journal that actually works. Especially the habit tracker which will definitely help me review my goals. Thank you. Also, because of the pandemic, I didn't get the chance to find a good dotted notebook so I ended up using a blank page notebook. Winning this would save me from the trouble of counting each space. #bulletjournalplease

I love the minimal bujo designs. I do go out of my comfort zone and try some artistic changes. I do love that it is so customizable to each need you have at that time in life. Tracking my son's conditions is vital to his progress and therapy. Love her page, thanks for the linkup. #bulletjournalplease

#bulletjournalplease I’m here from Amy’s page! I’m excited to learn bujo tricks and tips from you.
I really liked that you encouraged weekly planning vs monthly planning. I often find myself overwhelmed and, yes, guilty when I do a monthly spread and it doesn’t get done.
The best tip to give is to just do it. lol.

Thanks Matt for that awesome video! A tip I have after a few months of bullet journaling is to set aside a specific, uninterruptible time throughout the week dedicated to planning your week. I also find that this serves as a small win for the week, which is a great motivator for the upcoming week! #bulletjournalplease

Loved your top five tips! My bullet journal tip would be start with rapid logging on the daily pages. Record those random thoughts and other tasks that occurs during the day. Then you can deal with them later but they are safely tucked away until the right time. #bulletjournalplease

My biggest tip is to try out a whole bunch of different ideas in your BuJo and play with it. Most people get frustrated and quit instead of asking themselves "What do *I* need out of this?" (Similar to what you said in point #5). I've kept up the habit for over a year simply because I've allowed it to evolve and grow as I need different things. I couldn't imagine life without bullet journaling now! #BulletJournalPlease

My top bullet journal tip: to have no judgement. To know it doesn't have to be perfect and to have the opportunity to just pick up where I left off and keep taking action steps to move forward without judgement of how I could have made my bujo more "perfect" #bulletjournalplease

I'm fairly new to bullet journaling. I've been enjoying the tips so far. The tip that I've learned and appreciated the most is to make it yours! Your journal won't be in a wrong or bad format. It needs to meet your needs and no one elses. Thanks! #BulletJournalPlease

I implemented a daily work log and it really helped me organize my tasks and be more productive at work! And drawing on what you said about the master list, I found the right spread for me in which I have my weekly master list on the bottom of the page and I can always look at it during the week and allocate tasks on different days! #bulletjournalplease

I’m a huge planner person but I have never used a bullet journal so I’m super interested! I love your tips because I would be someone who would over complicate it and then quit after a few days of it being to much and getting discouraged so I’m glad you touched on that!

My favourite tip was tip4 on just starting with a weekly spread. Many times it is very overwhelming when I see blank pages and then it becomes difficult to keep up with bullet journaling. Thanks, Matt, love your videos! My top tips - if you have recurring meetings with other people, create separate pages for each person to track actions, projects coming out of the meeting, and other ‘waiting for’ items to discuss at the next meeting. I also use threading to track the prior and next pages of notes for each person - if your first meeting with Bob starts on page 12 and then your next meeting notes start on page 12, but continues to page 20 I note at the bottom of page 12 that my notes jump to page 20. At the top of page 20 I note page 12 where the notes began. #BulletJournalPlease
