They also need to be introduced to the amazing actor-director, Amol Palekar and Farooque Sheikh Sahab. I once got the chance to do a quick interview almost a decade ago with Naseer Sahab and his wife Ratna Pathak Shah at an art gallery in Delhi. When Maya Sarabhai met Maya (not Sarabhai). :)

They did not cheat us by relying too much on flashbacks to keep it interesting. They did everything right. And there was something about the ending that was cherry in the top for me but I don't wanna spoil.

I remember watching the play 'Antigone' by Naseer sahabs group 'Motley'. It started with 2 Greek guards walking into the crowd and taking away a guy whose phone was ringing. Then the narrator of the play, another brilliant actor - Benjamin Gilani - comes on the stage and has a casual chat with the audience about the do's and don'ts during the play. Then he finally starts the narration for the play. No fourth wall, the audience is put in its place, and the play began. I have never seen this done so elegantly in any theater performance. Now this interview makes sense.

I think carrying one’s coffin is a good analogy, though Kafan is probably a Shroud in English. Many subtitlers would use the meaning of idioms like you suggested, but that takes away from the impact of the original. I like it when we try to retain the translation of the idiom and include the meaning in brackets. But then the viewer has to be able to read it all before the next line.

there was like a minute long moment in this video where rick and korbin were so captivated by and focused on what naseeruddin was saying about his insights on the world of theatre and it warmed my heart. reminded me of how they always say "i wanna learn as much from them as i can" when talking about legendary actors like him and irrfan.

Naseeruddin's Motely theater group came to the U.S. several years ago. They might tour again. I hope they do. Before seeing him in a play (especially if it is Ismat APA ke naam or another "eastern" story ) I would encourage you to get familiar with the literature it is based on.

Life of Pi was the worst performance of two of the finest actors of India. If there was an award for screwing up the talent of two stalwarts, it should go to the director of Life of Pi. I lost all respect for the Oscars when the film was nominated.
Naseerudin shah might be a good actor but his choice of films,roles and scripts are mediocre and leave a lot to be desired.. personally,for me he doesn't stand a chance against the might of Irrfan Khan... Naseerudin shah belongs more in the category of Om Puri ... Great actors like Amitabh Bachchan,Al Pacino, De Niro, Aamir Khan, Nawaz, Irrfan show remarkable range in their roles and their films are just as memorable as their roles..I hardly remember any Naseerudin shah film
