  • "Wonderful Grace of Jesus" sung by Cleveland Baptist Church, Sunday morning, September 17th, 2006. See words below.
    Wonderful grace of Jesus
    Greater than all my sin
    How shall my tongue describe it
    Where shall its praise begin
    Taking away my burden
    Setting my spirit free
    For the wonderful grace of Jesus
    Reaches me
    Chorus:
    Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus
    Deeper than the mighty rolling sea
    Higher than the mountain sparkling like a fountain
    (Wonderful grace all sufficient for me for even me)
    All sufficient grace for even me
    Broader than the scope of my transgressions
    Greater far than all my sin and shame
    O magnify the precious name of Jesus
    Praise His Name!
    Wonderful grace of Jesus
    Reaching to all the lost
    By it I have been pardoned
    Saved to the uttermost
    Chains have been torn asunder
    Giving me liberty
    For the wonderful grace of Jesus
    Reaches me
    Wonderful grace of Jesus
    Reaching the most defiled
    By its transforming power
    Making him God's dear child
    Purchasing peace and heaven
    For all eternity
    And the wonderful grace of Jesus
    Reaches me

    I was 18 when I walked into this church and they were singing this song. In person, it was so thrilling to my soul. That was was nearly 50 years ago and His grace is still wonderful to me.

      Yeah, I've always preferred traditional hymns to the contemporary music played in most churches these days. With the old hymns I feel connected with everyone singing as we create the harmony of the song together. With contemporary music, I feel more like an outside observer while the people on stage make all the music; I don't feel like a part of it anymore. I just find it rather soulless personally.

    I studied in a Baptist Chinese school from primary to secondary school and previously attended the Baptist church adjunct to my school in the Philippines. This was our school hymn, and we were all required to sing it with gusto every chapel period and foundation day. This brought back a lot of great memories. Thank you

    There would be no hope for anyone of us, were in not for the wonderful, and unfathomable grace of Jesus. He who took the sins of the world in His beaten, bloody, and bruised body, ultimately shedding His blood to make the one and only perfect blood sacrifice that gives us the ability to come boldly before the throne of grace. ....and by His stripes we are healed. Indeed - Praise His Name!

    Likely my favorite hymn of all time. It's doctrinally correct, very upbeat, fun to sing, has great harmonies, and is "self-applicable" i.e. "..and the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches ME"! Your church sings it well, with great enthusiasm and LOUDLY! Thanks for posting.

    • @stillamazed27
      @stillamazed27  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, unfortunately, HPBC began capitulating to the contemporary philosophy and brought in the CCM music and it became a rock n' roll party center, and eventually was non-existent. A sobering example of what can happen to a church when the music goes wrong. Here's a good book that details all of this: www.wayoflife.org/free_ebooks/old_highland_park.php

    That's how your supposed to do it,...sing out of the hymn book with piano and organ accompaniment,and an orchestra if you have one,..NOT read words on a projection screen and use a CD backing track as accompaniment. Where is this church at? I'd like to visit!

    • @stillamazed27
      @stillamazed27  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +NorfolkSouthern643 Cleveland Baptist Church is located in Brooklyn, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland- 4431 Tiedeman Road, www.clevelandbaptist.org ....I will tell you up front that this video is almost ten years old- we still sing all the old hymns with piano and organ and orchestra accompaniment- the only thing that has changed is that we now have screens that project the lyrics- the hymnbooks are still there for anyone that wants to use them. I will say this frustrates me GREATLY, as most people don't use the books and only stare at the screen. While it's something I highly dislike, I can't change it. I am just grateful we still sing the old hymns. We'd love to have you for a visit anytime you can make it! :)

    • @norfolksouthern6432
      @norfolksouthern6432 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +stillamazed27This video is almost ten years old? Wow! Anyway,..we think alike! I would rather have that hymn book in my hands than stare at a screen. At LEAST you still use piano,organ,and orchestral accompaniment,and still sing the old hymns,...that at LEAST is a good thing when so many churches have thrown out the old hymns,and went to this contemporary stuff,which I don't really care for. Some songs i like,but not all of them. One church I used to go to went all contemporary,done away with the hymns,and organ.I expressed concern over that,and the pastor told me to leave. If I could just move your church to Bluffton,IN. LOL!!!!! The use of projection screens breeds laziness,and that,too,also frustrates me as well,and I don't much like it,either! I go to a small Baptist Church in Warren,IN.

    • @stillamazed27
      @stillamazed27  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +NorfolkSouthern643 You hit the nail on the head- it breeds laziness. You're exactly right. Yea, it's an old video- underneath each video is the date it was uploaded to TH-cam, and under that, in the description, I always mention when the church service was that the video is from- this particular one is September 17th, 2006. I'll include a link to my Congregational Singing playlist, featuring over 260 hymns that we've done over the years, and I routinely add to it. Hope it's a blessing to you. :) th-cam.com/play/PLtc9a2WdgDg3QYzq1ZWgIQxvIEqrYp_Ze.html

      The hymn books add the value of the notation. Some people still read music. I dont do it well, but I never would if I didn't ever get to see it. I do understand it and I am a musician, thanks to my early education from piano lessons. And Mrs Gibbs from church who helped my mom by watching me sometimes. She got me playing these hymns. Still play them today. Thank you for posting this precious video.

    Is it true that "Wonderful Grace of Jesus" is harder to sing than other hymns? Why?

    • @stillamazed27
      @stillamazed27  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many people believe that, and I agree- especially on the chorus. There's a lot of high notes, and on the chorus, the melody changes back and forth between the men and the women, and if you don't read music, you may not understand that and be confused as you try and sing it.

      On the chorus, the melody sometimes is sung by the men, and other times by the ladies. Many congregations struggle with it if they don't know how to read music.
