Nice View. 5 years living in Brisbane and didn't have the change to go for a climb. By then, I didn't know anything bout radio hobby. Now I enjoying the hobby here in Spain going around different summits. Hopefully someday when I get back there to visit friend I may trying on sota spot. Meanwhile I will enjoy your sota activation. Cheers!
Nice to see this. Im new on ham radio, busy getting my novice license…. But active on cb radio in my country as well. 73 from the Netherlands, Europe. Ed.
1. Congratulations on your first SOTA summit. 2. That may be the "Switzerland of the South", but it doesn't look like Switzerland. It is, however, beautiful scenery. 3. Looks like you guys had fun. that is what amateur radio is all about. 73.

Hey Paul. I saw the spots last night that you were on 20m, just missed you but heard stations working you on 40m. I’d love to work VK0 as I haven’t worked a station there yet in the log. Flick me an email or contact me on Facebook when you’re on the bands.
@@dirtydogg06 Hey mate, sorry for the slow reply, been travelling. Then entry is the Foundation license. Another great video. I've been doing SOTA for 10 years but I still haven't got to the 1000 points Mountain Goat status. I'm hoping to get it later this year.
Gud show ! Hayden and Justin! would have liked to have seen some cw action. from there great looking summit. and gorgeous views/scenery. Funny thing is a friend of mine and I chase sota/pota. more for the fun than points. etc. and he's about 90 miles North of me. so when we chat I always sign. as the Station from "Down under" but you guys have me beat that's for sure on that moniker. thanks ever so much and GL with future activations will keep an ear/eye out for them 72/73 from "Up Above" de Ellis WA1RKS
Hi Dan, the only battery we had was the inbuilt one inside the IC-705. You only need 4 contacts for points for the summit, so we figured we'd have more than enough battery for that. Since then I've purchased a LiFePO4 battery which I'm going to use for the parks stuff
@@HamRadioDX do you find 10watts is enough? I usually take my 7300 and sotabeam linked dipole away for vkff but it's pretty big, looking for smaller radio
@@danvk3ndg104 Sorry! I forgot we had a small 7A SLA, so yes we ran 10W. The internal battery is 5W only. 10W can be a struggle. A Xiegu G90 is 20W, that might be better, but not as good as a 7300 in the field.
Great Job Hayden, not sure I would carry my camera like you did , you are a lot younger lol. I will stick to my DJI Action I think , also will be doing 3 SOTA's Tues, Wed, and Thursday this week.
Thanks Chuck. The camera was my iPhone on a selfie stick and the M50 at the top on a small tripod on a rock. It worked rather well. I hope we can work one day Summit to Summit
Awesome vid! Got me even more excited to upgrade my license and get on HF. I live in Portland, OR so I couldn’t help but notice the shirt. Have you been over here before?

Welcome to the SOTA club, our favorite ham radio activity 🙌🏻
Thanks! Already done another today, just a quick one
Well Done Hayden, I did Collins Bonnet and Mt Wellington before I came down to VK0. Might be able to work you from down here some time on HF

Very entertaining. Wish I had started into ham radio when I lived in Colorado. I think there are 50-ish peaks over 14,000 ft (4267 m) there.
Congrats on your first activation. Looks like it was a great day out. Hope you have many more and are hooked on SOTA. 73 - Tim N7KOM

Why the Portland, Oregon shirt? Has my favorite Aussie ever visited my hometown?
No! But it’s a good shirt. A local outlet sells American themed shirts cheap
Have yu considered stopping up there overnight to enjoy the stars &C??
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! Very much appreciated.

I didn't realise that was your first, seen you pop up on sotawatch
Certainly won’t be the last! Had a great time
Great activation Hayden, will you be sprinting to the summit next time with ZL4RA Radio Runner ? 🤔
Could be a good race!
Lets go! :D
I heard Texas in there at 19:02 . Were you able to get to the U.S. on 15 meters?
No not quite. Called a few times but they didn’t hear us :(

what’s the elevation?
Just a tad over 1000 metres, I think 1076? But I’d need to check
