It's weird, but some of the couch gags were better then some of the episodes. One thing's for sure, The Simpsons has gone just about everywhere!
I like the one Disney animator Eric Goldberg did where the characters turn into Disney characters. Maggie turns into Minnie Mouse from the early black and white cartoons, Lisa turns into Cinderella, Marge turns into Snow White, Homer turns into Baloo from The Jungle Book and Bart ruins it all as Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey from Fantasia
Why didn't they ever think of making a couch gag of The Legend of Zelda games ? Homer as Link Marge as Zelda Bart as Skull Kid/Majora Lisa as Saria Maggie as Navi
While I haven't watched the Simpsons in a long time, these couch gags are awesome! I do have to say that I'm surprised that they didn't mention that one gag that was in the episode after the Simpsons Movie. Don't get me wrong, compared to the other gags, it's not that great, but I like it mainly for its continuity sake with showing the town rebuilding itself.
One of my favorites was where the Simpsons family runs to to the couch, only to find an identical Simpsons family already sitting there. Simplistically funny.
I love the Don Hertzfeldt couch gag, you can see that it was made from a man who loved The Simpsons but is now disappointed of what it became, so you see The Simpsons minimalised not only in graphics and animation, but also as content, as the show is going to broadcast more than it should have been, through stupid catchphrase and same storylines over and over again without an end
To me, it's the one where their heads turn into different types of food: Homer's turns into a salad (how ironic), Lisa's into soup, Marge's into spaghetti and meatballs, Bart's into a steak and Maggie's into a piece of candy. The Comic Book Guy eats them, and the napkin he wipes his mouth with is pictured with the family on the couch. I rewatched this couch gag so many times as kid, so that's why I remember it so vividly
NGL, Treehouse of Horror XXIV slapped hard AF, and I'm not just saying that since it's one of the few times I've seen a legit Phantom of the Paradise reference in TV or film.
Another one I like was from 2003 or 2004 when the family comes in and sits down on the couch. The music stops and Lisa breaks the fourth wall say something to the effect of, "What!?! Can't we just sit on the couch like normal sometimes?" Suddenly, a spear flies from off camera into Homer's chest and he yells, "D'OH!" And who can forget that response to President Bush's claim that families should model themselves less like The Simpsons and more like The Waltons as the whole family is watching him on TV. Bart then cracks, "Hey, We are just like The Waltons. We're waiting for an end to The Depression, too!"
I remember seeing the tik tok one without seeing the episode, then the end hit, and my wife and i were just like, "Awesome! Did not expect that to be a couch gag."
The one where they make fun of "The Munsters" - makes sense that the townspeople would kill almost all the alternate Simpons family versions present (except Lisa).
11:35-11:40 - Actually, I believe the couch gag from Rosebud, where the family ran in and found duplicates of themselves on the couch, was the most frequently used gag, as that gag was commonly used when the show aired in syndication.
I always thought the "Wacky Races" spoof couch gag from Season 24 was hilarious. It had all the characters in different souped up dragster couches with Grampa Abe coming out on top, laughing like Muttley after all the other couches crash.
The gunbarrel, the Gumby one, the Robot Chicken one I hope the Simpson's Movie sequel gets a theater gag that's like the evolution from one of the episodes. Homer makes it to the drive in theater just in time to meet with his family for the showing. I want a Vladimir terasov couch gag
What? The "Game of Thrones" opening didn't even get an honorable mention??? Of course, that just goes to show how awesome the rest are. I'm particularly happy that Bill Plympton made the list, and even more that he's on twice!
aside from the obvious 80s inspirations, La-Z Rider is also clearly referencing GTA Vice City with the artstyle and Flanders looking a lot like a take on Lance Vance I've never understood the appeal of Rick & Morty.... my favorite couch gags are easily the Robot Chicken one, the Adventure Time one, La-Z Rider, the Hobbit one, the Flintstones, Nelson pulling the couch away & doing his "ha-ha", the circus kick line and Guilermo Del Toro's one.
Missing the Ren & Stimpy parody couch gag before Treehouse of Horror 2015. and the Sgt. Pepper Beatles album cover couch gag where Homer turns his back to the camera, just like Paul McCartney of the back of the Pepper album cover.

I didn't know who Don Hertzfeldt was before he did his couch gag, but it is perfect. Dark, sombre and bittersweet, but I love it.
