Omg the perfect video. I finally found out thanks of this video that I do not need the sponge on the gfo that is why it never worked for me before. Thank you so much for this video.
Nice ending, I love the way wife's make entrance. Thank You for this video make me realize that first I need to replace mine GFO and carbon media is more than two months and second I overfill the carbon to the fullest of the cartridge, I have two tanks 175 and 90 and both are overfill with carbon no wonder the 90 gls the GFO doesn't even move. Thank You Gil
Thank you so much for the very informative video, I am a beginner and I am planning in buying a gfo reactor to bring down the phosphate. My only question is how many hours per day do you run the reactor? Once again thank you👍
Hey Gil love the new series. FYI. Instead of using the screw driver to pull out the sponges I use a butter knife. Also why don't you rinse out the media by running water through the media holders instead? That's what I have been doing without any I'll effects. I also noticed you don't use any sponges on the GFO. I used them to prevent any lose GFO from getting back into the sump.
Awesome Ambrosius. Never had an issue with GFO in the sump, but the sponge in GFO isn't a bad idea. Definitely more than one way to skin this cat. Thanks for sharing your routine to change out the media. See you on the next one!
What is the actual flow rate throught that reactor once set properly? I need to calculate if my manifold will have enough flow for one. It looks slow like 100 gph
I am. If you can hold off a few more weeks, I should have tons of frags as I anticipate having to break up lots of the larger colonies when I make the move into the next tank.
Do you have the reactor pump and the same space as your return pump? I have mine in the same space with the in and out tubing all in the same chamber. I'm wondering if that's a good place? Also how often are you changing your carbon?
Great video, however, i didn't see your gfo tumbling at all. Is that because you have it hardly moving or because you didn't actually add that footage?
BeWare..very aware. This is a very underpowered piece of plastic it will stop everything after a day or so and will never work right because it is not powered with the proper power water pump. You will never get it to work right.
Thanks Mighty, I did release a tank update on my current tank a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if you mean my current tank or the one I'm going to build. Either way, thank you.
Hey Gil, the dual reactor, once it is adjusted to the appropriate tumbling of GFO, it appears that there is actually not much of flow coming out... is that really how it needs to function with a very low flow...? i can't imagine how long it would take to cycle my 90 gallon tank with such a low flow rate. But if I increase than GFO is bouncing way too hard...
It was a fair amount of water coming out of the outlet, but definitely wasn't shooting our or slowly trickling. If your reactor isn't brand new, I would suggest removing the canisters and forcing water in the channel of the lids, where water passes through one canister and into the other. Also double check your hose for possible obstructions. If that doesn't work, then try running the GFO only and the carbon canister empty. See if there is a difference in the water flow from the outlet hose.
Thanks for quick reply. It is brand new BRS dual; no obstructions, but the flow is very limited it seems. Iwill try to run it without the carbon to see if it changes. thanks again.
Hi i just started my 38 gallon saltwater reef tank and i have a 2 little fishs 150 gfo reactor do you recommended me using it or is my system to small?
You could use it, just be careful not to over do the gfo if you plan on keeping lps corals as you will strip out the water making it too clean/low nutrient water. If youre just doing sps and plan on dosing trace elements then low nutrient is ideal. Lps corals die in my system.
Ok im using poly filter which they clam it pulls phosphate out of the water. My tank is going to be all soft coarls but ive had cyano bacteria problems in the past
Hey gill! Just found out you back , I'm watching all your videos catching up now :) , 2 things I have noticed the first is about waiting to see your new build?! Have you released any information on what size tank? Or is it wait and see.........? Next question is I saw your headset from ps4 gold's....you game , I am a community leader and would find it fun for you to get into a game with us , I am Ultimate_Reflux ...we play the usual cod's , tom Clancy's , lately I've been hosting a Platoon game each Monday night 9 pm pst Battlefield 1 :) tmi ? Anyway hit me up
Walter's Madness Hey Walter, glad you made it back. No info on tank yet, but it's not much bigger than previous tank. I haven't played in a while. I played COD then got into BF. I still watch LevelCap on YT though. I'll search your screen name next time.
ReeferGil perfect ! Just a heads up we are all nice guys adult and would enjoy your presents in the field bf1 ! We are The Awesome Madness Community and Platoon ( UMAD) looks serious but we are just average guys i watch westie mostly but level cap I usual catch his bf1 updates also ok well the new DLC is out yesterday !!! Have fun and looks up
Walter's Madness oh my gosh. You have no idea how much your last message intimidated me. I am grossly under average when it comes to Battlefield. I typically just go out and start looking for trouble without any tactical decision making or working with other teams. But it sounds fun I'll have to look you guys up after my PS4 does an hour of updates I'm sure LOL
Haha funny bro last part about your wife, my wife don't toll me anything about my tank that good for me lol keep videos man i always looks you videos 👌👍
i just got one of these, do i put the pump into the sump?or in the tank? little confused on the set up. im hanging my reactor on the side of my cabinet
JUNK SICCI WATER PUMP matched with a mediocre Brick-maker. All about $$. I asked for advice but laughed at my issue with a mismatched piece of Junk. Thank you BRS
BeWare..very aware. This is a very underpowered piece of plastic it will stop everything after a day or so and will never work right because it is not powered with the proper power water pump. You will never get it to work right.
great video buddy and nice step by step tutorial that can be used by new as well as seasoned veteran reefers. I loved the ending too.
LOL, thanks Scott!

Ha, yeah. If you don't get movement from the GFO it'll turn into one hard cylindrical shaped GFO rock! Been there...
I always have a hard time getting the top of the filter off. Good point about not getting any media in the tops. Have a good one Reefer Gil
Thanks Mang!

Gill you make it simply many thanks 😊🏴👍
Thank you for the post!
LOL last part of the video had me laughing..Nice. Great video by the way. Cannot wait to see your new build.
Wil Santiago Haha. Thanks Wil!
Great Video Dan. Like Will, I loved the last part as well.
Hey Phil! LOL, thanks...
Excellent video!
Thank you Deb!

Compressed air works great for cleaning the bottom out 👌🏻
Awesome idea Jeromi. I have an air compressor and it never crossed my mind. I'm going to try it next time, thanks!
A fellow reefer gave me a single BRS reactor so Im running the GFO/carbon together. Works great. Thank you for your vids!
No problem and thank you.
What is the actual flow rate throught that reactor once set properly? I need to calculate if my manifold will have enough flow for one. It looks slow like 100 gph
corals are looking great! you start fragging?
I do frag quite a bit. Sell most of it to my LFS. Store credit works out great for me to buy dry goods.
ReeferGil if you are still in the bay i am intrested in some coral frags i can give you cash ? if you are up for it.
I am. If you can hold off a few more weeks, I should have tons of frags as I anticipate having to break up lots of the larger colonies when I make the move into the next tank.
ReeferGil will do ill keep in touch
CaliReef Copy that!
Do you have the reactor pump and the same space as your return pump? I have mine in the same space with the in and out tubing all in the same chamber. I'm wondering if that's a good place? Also how often are you changing your carbon?
I did run it exactly as you described. I now run it off a manifold. your way works too.
Gil ,Can I ask for a video on the Apex controller some day , thanks Reefer
Heck ya! I have plans for that.
so glad to see you back. cant wait v to see your tank
Thanks Mighty, I did release a tank update on my current tank a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if you mean my current tank or the one I'm going to build. Either way, thank you.
So what canister go first? GFO or Carbon?
What the different of gfo and biopelets? If i i use 2 reactors how about the pump?using 2 pump or just one?

John Waldman Hope it turns out well.
Excellent bruh nice content
I appreciate that Cooper, thank you!

I've never used those, but they honestly sound like the work as well as you'd expect for the price.
I have the same gfo and carbon reactions.. my problems is my phosphate is always zero I have to turn off mine for 6 weeks to raise my phosphate.
Lovebetta Awesome! I dose Fauna Marin with my Alk and Ca. My water runs pretty nutrient free, so I can't keep softies.
How did you connect those tubes to the pump?
Not sure what you mean. Sorry. I post daily on Instagram if you're interested.

hahaha that outro! nothing wrong with adding production value through props.
Haha, thanks infamous! Just trying to look legit.
Clean Rusty screwdriver?
LOL, I probably should.
Haha funny bro last part about your wife, my wife don't toll me anything about my tank that good for me lol keep videos man i always looks you videos 👌👍
Thank you very much Ruffles, lol.
For some reason no matter what i do, the gfo seems to stop tumbling after a few days every single time i change the media
If you are running carbon before the GFO, the carbon is becoming saturated. General fix is to adjust the flow every few days.
Thank you! For the tip am sure I have a rock here
No problem, you're very welcome!
CUBAN REEFER otro cubano loco con esto del reef aquarium 👍👍
i just got one of these,
do i put the pump into the sump?or in the tank? little confused on the set up.
im hanging my reactor on the side of my cabinet
Easiest and cleaner to place it in the sump.
Nice vid lol
Appreciate the post, thanks !

Mine works just fine.
I have to say that in my experience, I have not seen any issues with it. I've used MJ 1200 pumps and also ran this off a manifold. Zero issues.
Hahaha… no hun!
