I took a 3 year old to magic kingdom, I'm a single dad we were staying with relatives in orlando to visit and I decided to take a day trip over there with my daughter, everyone said it was a waste of money and she wasn't going to remember it. The weather was bad and I ended up having to by an over priced blanket for her stroller to block out the wind so I can vouch for that tip. But watching her wide eyed look of wonder was we drifted through the small world ride is a memory that I treasure to this day and shes in middle school now.

That’s exactly what we’re gonna do! As someone who once walked around Disney so much I wore my foot down till I bled through my shoe, I really appreciate rest days. There’s nothing wrong with taking a half hour break to sit and watch a parade, even one you’ve already seen, with something baked and a cold drink also. Me and my fiancé are also huge dole whip lovers and people watching under some tree shade, sharing some different dole whip flavours is also just perfect on a warm, busy day. It’s a good time to watch some of the outdoor rides go by.

Could you do a video for those who are disabled? Walk through the Disability Access System as well as things like how to Disney with service dogs? Walk through where the rooms for those with ASD or other conditions can go and decompress while in the parks? Scooter rentals (inside the parks and renting nearby? Medically necessary wagons/chairs?
For the fb page for those with disabilities in Disney, these questions are asked multiple times a day and it would benefit many to have an all-inclusive video/s.

The more people speak about the DAS, the more guest will take advantage of it and possibly ruin it. It would be great to have a video for the groups, making the information easier to understand, but I could just imagine the lines at guest services if more people new about DAS.

I travel to WDW with people who are disabled. I have been going most years for the past 18 or so. Very few things in WDW are ADA Complient. I will give you some advice. First, people with can enjoy the parks and you should not avoid Disney because someone in your party is disabled. Second, do not rent the mobility scooters from Disney. Disney puts retarders on the drive wheels, so they go very very very slowly. Then you have to get into the park to rent one - no reservations so that is 30 to 60 minutes wasted. And Disney charges 2 to 3 times what local rental companies charge. You can look them up online and reserve one for your whole stay. Third, most of the sit-down restaurants will let a person in a wheelchair or scooter in, but they do not really have access at the tables or getting to the tables. Fourth, to ride most of the rides the handicap person needs to transfer from the chair to the ride vehicle. This means they will have to get out of the chair and WALK 10 to 20 feet and climb up or down into the vehicle. If you have someone that is a true paraplegic, ask a cast member to see the transfer point before waiting in line. The cast members will always say that it is easy to transfer and that it is done all the time, but unless you actually are in the chair or deal with a person that is - you don't really know how hard it is. Fifth, be prepared for bad guests in the park. When your party slows down a ride line while boarding, someone will tell you or say loud enough for you to hear that the handicapped person should not be at WDW. People will cut off the chair in the walkways and yell at you. The cast members and 90% of the guests will be polite to you but 10% of the guests don't want you there and will mistreat you. This should not deter you from going nor ruin your day. Hust be prepared for it. If you want other advise or specific info - leave a reply to this message.
Now for Autism. This is a tough place for that condition. Nothing is straight or organized. There is a ton of people, and they are all going different directions very quickly. If you are traveling with an Autistic person who should practice before going to the park. I don't remember quite rooms for autistic people, but I have found places in each park that work great.
As for DFB doing anything on their channel showing how to deal with the handicap version of WDW that would be a great idea, but they have no concept of traveling with a disabled person. Therefore, their advice on this topic would do more harm than good. I am not being mean but in the past their advice on how to Disney while handicapped was less than clueless.

      @MollyMA13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@apfelbasket As far as I know, you do not need to do anything prior to the trip besides trying to do as much research as possible for your specific disability. You might even be able to call & get some questions answered (not sure how their phone customer service is at the moment but I found it helpful in the past). When I get to the park, I go to Town Hall first, which can be a 30 min wait unfortunately. When you talk to someone there, they will be able to set you up with any & all services that they offer. They have loaded the info onto my app so I am not 100% sure how they would do it without a smart phone. They might be able to add it to your tickets/magic band. Hopefully this gave you a bit of guidance- I’m more of a Disneyland person than Disney World, but I have used the services at both parks.

She took her first steps dressed as bell towards bell when at the enchanted storytelling area in WDW. Worth every penny. I know the parks have changed over the years and so on but advice such as wait till there older is def a per family thing. The worst advice has to be when you tell people to go ahead and grab those reservations (restaurant, hotel, etc.) even if you think you won't use them because you can cancel the day before. This is the worst for the same reason that you get annoyed with those people who sit at an empty table before they have food, leaving you eating at the garbage can. When people hoard reservations (or tables) that they don't need, it leaves other people with no access. Basically you're just robbing other people of something they are ready for while you are just hanging on to it with very little intention of using it.

mom advice from me for little kids - go to Disneyland first. It is small and easily walkable. Very easy to pop back to hotel for naps. Dont need to plan so many ADRs but if you want a zany character breakfast you can't beat Goofy's Kitchen! Also DL has all the cute stuff for them, including Toon Town, which my son loved when he was 3.

I visited WDW about 1998 in November--and it was a vacation that began in Paris. When I got on my official Walt Disney World tour, the tour guide had a long wool great coat and white knit gloves to deal with ice on the ground. Yes, the puddles were frozen. Since I had just toured Paris in November, I had my layers. The rest of the tour group were wearing two sweatshirts or something like that and still cold. The day got warmer in the afternoon and I peeled off layers.

I know a LOT of people who say they are "Going to Disney" and it means they went to Universal Studios and Sea World! :D I think they just lump all the Orlando attraction stuff together and say they are going to "Disney" instead of doing a vacation in "Orlando." So Universal, Sea World, Disney World--- it's literally all the same thing to them! This is why you see so many families in Universal wearing "Disney Vacation" family style tshirts! I think the parks understand this as well as I've seen cast members respond graciously, or with a light tease, over the confusion. Drives me bonkers, but once I learned to decode this, I was able to start asking "which park are you going to in specific" to really understand what they are doing.

Speaking of Cold! My daughter and I were at Disney World just this month from March 5-15. We experienced some of the most diverse weather ever, going from highs in the 80s-90, torrential rains that caused flooding at Hollywood Studios, and wind chills in the 30s! We had to buy a blanket for me from the Canada pavillion to cover my lap while I drove my EVC and a heavy lumber-jack- style pullover jacket for my daughter. That was $117.00 that I had not planned to spend but we have souvenirs and a great story to tell. :-) I would have bought gloves except I had three pairs in our hotel room that I just didn't know we would need when we left out that day. We have never been that cold in Florida before, EVER! We saw people wearing gloves, coats, hats, boots, etc. I assume they had those items with them because they were originating from colder northern states. It wasn't that cold were we are from when we left home but, Surprise!, a winter storm decided to make its way south during our trip. I checked the weather forcast before we left home and nothing but warm weather and a few rainy days were mentioned. So, yes,, whoever said it never gets cold in Florida is absolutly wrong! Thanks for the great video!

This happened to us years ago as well. I was miserable but my boys were preteens at the time and they were having the time of their lives being boys and slipping through the floods barefoot. You would have thought we were at a water park. Meanwhile i was miserable and freezing but they remember that trip now at 30 and 27 years ago with nothing but smiles and laughs and fond memories. It makes me smile every time they talk about it.

We live in Florida and should know better but once we went with family visiting from up north and we got caught in freezing weather. Literally ice was forming on things. We had to buy blankets and jackets. This was 2000 so they still had the kennels at each park and when we went to walk our dog he wouldn’t even go potty b/c he was so stunned and frozen. One nice thing was that since it dipped so cold so fast and took a lot of people by surprise Magic Kingdom started setting up free hot cocoa stations where they gave out complimentary coco & tea and boxes of Disney animal crackers. Ill probably never see them do anything like that again in my life lol

I can't step in the same river twice. I've changed. That Disney theme park has changed.
I did add in a rest day for my November 2021 Disneyland trip. Yes, it was pricey, but I had to. My first Disneyland day I cut short by two hours due to fatigue, then I did my second day okay, Day Three was my rest day, and Day Four was full-bore fun and then I had to return home. Disneyland is no fun when I stagger from attraction to attraction too tired to raise my head.

My biggest tip is - do NOT overspend on merch. On one RunDisney trip, i had a friend who just *had* to buy every pin, jacket and hat because she was totally in love with everything Minnie related and it was just a one time thing.
Wound up spending about $4000 and started questioning the rest of us in the group after we all got back and got our bills - she thought may be some of our purchases got on to her account, maybe? That pissed a few people off and prompted one to make spreadsheet of all of our individual expenses to prove to this person that she just overspent.
Money can strain relationships. A couple of other people in the group in fact just made their own plans for the next RunDisney event the following year - they didn’t want to go through being accused of freeloading again. I, myself came very close to making my own plans.
Bottom line - NO ONE CARES about your Disney trip. NO ONE CARES about your new hat/shirt/pin. No one except you. Just enjoy the trip and maybe get a souvenir or two to remember it.

I do have two tips I give people, 1) tell whoever you're ordering from if there's a food allergy. I have had to break the bad habit of looking for keywords because occasionally an ingredient isn't on the menu. And 2) please be mindful of your surroundings! I've seen people almost get hurt because they stopped suddenly in the middle of a walkway and it was harder for a motor scooter or cast member with a heavy tram/cart thing to stop quickly. Luckily I haven't witnessed an actual accident, but best avoid it altogether

    • @GMPax
      @GMPax ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even better, WRT food allergies:
If you make a dining reservation, _mention right then and there_ that someone in the party has a food allergy.
Mention it again when you check in for that meal.
And then, yes, mention it a third time when you first meet your server.
It's overkill to bring it up so often, yes, but: it ensures you don't "slip through the cracks", and will get Disney's absolutely stellar treatment for guests with allergies.
      ...
In 2014, one of our party had a (mild) allergy to seafood of any sort. At every restaurant, they clarified what the allergy was, and pointed out which dishes would be problematic. Which is pretty basic stuff, sure, BUT ... we also had reservations at Coral Reef. There, they did more than point things out; _one of the chefs came to our table_ to discuss with her what food issues she had. And when her plate came out, it had a little yellow flag on it (to identify it for special handling to avoid cross-contamination).
      Deeply impressive stuff, that.

When I was planning my first trip to Disneyland, I wanted to pick a day when the crowds would be lower than a "normal" day. I figured that the park would be nearly empty on Christmas Day. I am not a Christian, so I don't celebrate Christmas. Since the majority of people wherever I go are Christians, I thought that those people would be at home, gathered around their tree, opening gifts, while wearing matching pajamas. NOPE! They were at Disneyland. All of them. And their brother. And his kids. So, I found myself surrounded by the worst crowd I had ever been in, AND the wind was blowing 30 mph combined with lower temperatures to make it a miserable day. My kids had a great time regardless, so that's all that counted for me. I would have had a happier time if I had been warned, but sadly DFB didn't exist yet at that time. When was that? Hint: there was no internet yet, either.

I am so glad I took my kid frequently between the ages of 4 months and 9 years old to WDW. Sure, she doesn't remember all the trips between 0-3, but she was free. I had a lightweight umbrella stroller that folded easily and had great storage. It was just a nice break escaping somewhere warm and by 2 she loved meeting characters. From 3-8, she loved dressing up, meeting characters, and going on rides. Nearly every restaurant had a kid's menu with simple vegetarian options like pizza and mac-n-cheese. I loved using Magical Express, since I had free check ins with my airline and could then travel almost luggage-free, like you can in Japan. We loved picking out our magic bands every trip and would vary colors. I tended to travel with just her, so yeah, I couldn't go on more "adult" rides, but I was OK with it, because we had a lot of special memories together. She doesn't remember every trip, but we had a lot and they tend to blend together for me too sometimes. Now that she's a tween, I find the idea of going to Disney just a lot less appealing. I have zilch desire to pay adult prices for her. I don't want to have to order off an adult menu where the vegetarian options are "Corn Linguine, Tempeh Ragu, Macadamia Nut “Ricotta,” Zucchini, Mushroom." What the heck?!? I might be interested in trying that, but a vegetarian kid who is 10 or 11 or 12, not necessarily. As a tween we can go to actual France or Germany or the UK or Japan much much easier. And all the changes with Genie+ sound incredibly underappealing. I paid additional for the old Magic Mornings in MK and the Studios. I paid for Max Pass. I'm fine with paying additional to get more, but I am not paying more to get less than I use to get for free. I still have my DVC points, but I'm much more inclined to rent them out or use them for Aulani. I'll get my Disney fun from TDR when the borders reopen. They're now charging for early entry, but for the new 3000 yen early entry you get more rides and shops, as well as a full hour vs. the formerly free 15 minutes. Now, that is a paid addition I can get behind.

The worst advice I've gotten is about which restaurants have "something for even the pickiest eaters." No restaurant has something for even the pickiest eaters, because every picky eater is different and what one picky eater loves, another won't touch. My kid won't eat the pizza or chicken nuggets at Disney, he won't he mac 'n' cheese, or PBJ sandwiches. Even the things he will eat are dependent on brand, texture, etc. He loves fries, but won't touch steak fries, or thick cut fries. He normally loves chicken nuggets, but won't touch the ones at Disney. Bottom line is you have to do your research. Look at the menus yourself to see what each restaurant offers, and if you know your kid loves all kinds of mac 'n' cheese, great, but don't assume that because someone said a particular restaurant is great for picky eaters that they will have something for YOUR picky eater. My kid lived on french fries from the food courts at resorts and Joffreys donuts for our 2 week long trip. I MAY have gotten him to eat a hotdog from Casey's once, and the chef at Garden Grill made him some pancakes at breakfast because he wouldn't eat anything else. (Thank GOD for that chef, and yes, I did a cast compliment for him) But there is no such thing as a foolproof restaurant for picky eaters!!
Also, about getting cold in Disney, we can only go in the Summer because we live overseas and will get in huge trouble if the kids are not in school when it's in session. So we go in the hottest months of the year and still have to bring sweatshirts because it's always FRIGID in the restaurants with that air conditioning. And because it rains a lot, if you are a bit damp to begin with, that can make that air conditioning feel like you are in the arctic. We had a miserable Tusker House meal when there was a storm that closed everything outdoors and we had already seen all the shows. We tried to check in 30 minutes early for our ADR and were turned away. We had to wait under an umbrella outside in that pouring rain and by the time we got inside, we were wet despite our rain ponchos and the table's umbrella. Then the AC was cranked up to Winter, and there was not a thing on the buffet my son would eat except chocolate chip cookies. We left hungry, cold, and feeling defeated.

I'm a picky and cheap adult and it can be tricky. My last trip we went to the plaza with friends and the only thing I could justify eating was the cheese fries (there was probably a $25 steak or something, but I eat cheap cuts), and even then I was really disappointed with the fries because the cheese wasn't good. Then when AJ says "don't go to Tony's, go to the plaza instead," even if Tony's isn't that good I know there are more things I would like. I also don't like any chicken, never have, so "get chicken nuggets" is not an option and never was one. As a kid I ate waffles for breakfast every morning.

I spent 5 days straight at Disney, I didn't need a rest day at all and would have been annoyed if my family took one. We had no kids with us though.

Normal years, weekdays during the school year are slowest.
Christmas time has the best decor, even at the resorts
