    Congratulations.!
Magnificent song that sounds wonderful in Irish.
We sing it in Basque, the only Paleo-Arctic language in Europe still alive.

I don't know if you if you looked up the meaning behind the song, but I'll do my best to summarise. This song is originally an ode to Bonnie Prince Charles, whom the Irish hoped would be their saviour from religious persecution. It was disguised as a love song because it was treasonous. The title apparently either means "My dashing darling" or "My gallant hero" depending on the translation. The significance of dedicating this to the president is the highest praise that he could receive in the form of a song.

Beautiful rendition of this wonderful song! One of my favorite versions, alongside of Mary Black's singing of it. deep feeling, reflective and memorable. What I like is that this version is more intimate and understated, the simplicity enhances the effect. The guitar accompaniment is elegant and unobtrusive and does not steal the show from the text. Without knowing Gaelic, I have a feeling that something very significant is being sung. Someone once told me that Gaelic is now just a hobby because everyone speaks English or French. But it is also culture and history and worth treasuring and carrying on.

(1:20) _Seal da rabhas im' mhaighdean shéimh,_
_'S anois im' bhaintreach chaite thréith,_
_Mo chéile ag treabhadh na dtonn go tréan_
_De bharr na gcnoc is i n-imigcéin._
For a while I was a gentle maiden
And now a spent worn-out widow
My spouse ploughing the waves strongly
Over the hills and far away
(1:47) _Sé mo laoch, mo Ghile Mear,_
    _Sé mo Chaesar, Ghile Mear,_
_Suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas féin_
_Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo Ghile Mear._
He is my hero, my dashing darling
He is my Caesar, dashing darling.
I've had no rest from forebodings
Since he went far away my darling.
(2:14) _Bímse buan ar buaidhirt gach ló,_
_Ag caoi go cruaidh 's ag tuar na ndeór_
_Mar scaoileadh uaim an buachaill beó_
_'S ná ríomhtar tuairisc uaidh, mo bhrón._
Every day I am constantly sad
    Weeping bitterly and shedding tears
Because our lively lad has left us
And no news from him is heard alas.
(2:42) _Sé mo laoch, mo Ghile Mear,_
    _Sé mo Chaesar, Ghile Mear,_
_Suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas féin_
_Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo Ghile Mear._
(3:08) _Ní labhrann cuach go suairc ar nóin_
_Is níl guth gadhair i gcoillte cnó,_
_Ná maidin shamhraidh i gcleanntaibh ceoigh_
_Ó d'imthigh uaim an buachaill beó._
The cuckoo sings not pleasantly at noon
And the sound of hounds is not heard in nut-filled woods,
Nor summer morning in misty glen
Since he went away from me, my lively boy.
(3:35) _Sé mo laoch, mo Ghile Mear,_
    _Sé mo Chaesar, Ghile Mear,_
_Suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas féin_
_Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo Ghile Mear._
    (4:02) _Marcach uasal uaibhreach óg,_
_Gas gan gruaim is suairce snódh,_
_Glac is luaimneach, luath i ngleo_
_Ag teascadh an tslua 's ag tuargain treon._
    Noble, proud young horseman
Warrior unsaddened, of most pleasant countenace
    A swift-moving hand, quick in a fight,
Slaying the enemy and smiting the strong.
(4:29) _Sé mo laoch, mo Ghile Mear,_
    _Sé mo Chaesar, Ghile Mear,_
_Suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas féin_
_Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo Ghile Mear._
(4:58) _Seinntear stair ar chlairsigh cheoil_
_'s líontair táinte cárt ar bord_
_Le hinntinn ard gan chaim, gan cheó_
_Chun saoghal is sláinte d' fhagháil dom leómhan._
Let a strain be played on musical harps
And let many quarts be filled
With high spirit without fault or mist
For life and health to toast my lion.
(5:29) _Ghile mear 'sa seal faoi chumha,_
_'s Eire go léir faoi chlócaibh dubha;_
_Suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas féin_
_Ó luaidh i gcéin mo Ghile Mear._
Dashing darling for a while under sorrow
And all Ireland under black cloaks
Rest or pleasure I did not get
