Really what NFS games (and other racing games with car customization) need is the ability to increase bore and stroke with multiple presets (that affect the power and torque curves as well as the RPM limit), alter the turbo size (based on compressor wheel), and increase the rpm limit of the engine, given that the RB26 can be tuned in such a way as to deliver 10000+ rpm. The ability to convert the car to a race car (similar to the Works Conversion in Shift 1&2) and fit it with a widebody kit that generates downforce and evokes real-life race cars (in this case the JGTC Skyline GT-R R33/R34, or even a modernized version of the Group 5 Super Silhouette Cars) would also be nice (even if the body kits were entirely fictional), as well as advanced weight reduction options like sawing off the front and rear ends and replacing them with tube frame, replacing the car body with carbon fiber, etc.

Well in customization yeah it suffered a big downgrade; but; with the change that now has a better engine sound for the F&F fanboys to stop complaining about it (despite the fact that the 2F2F Skyline engine sound is a modified version of the Toyota 1JZ engine sound).
