  • Dr. Catherine Gallo was performing surgery at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend when the call came in from the emergency room that a young boy was in critical need of life saving surgery due to a blood clot that was forming between his skull and his brain. Young Josiah had fallen and bumped his head at home, which is a very common injury for children. His mother took him to the emergency room because her instincts told her that something was very wrong with her son even though he had no physical marks or external bleeding beyond a small pink spot near his ear. In this compelling video, Dr. Gallo recounts the day that she saved Josiah's life. If you have children, you will want to watch this video and share it with your friends who also have kids.

Wow ! These things aren't always avoidable kids get hurt all the time lots of falls and knocks to The head but this video shows parents can just pay attention to behaviors after falls just in case and go with their gut if they think a fall might have cause a serious injury ...thank you I'll think twice about falls and knocks now .not totally freak out but looking for signs !

If a kid hits his head and is throwing up it shouldn't even be a question to do some kind of scan. Thank God the mother insisted.

"Josiah" means God has healed in Hebrew. What a name for this kid.

I wish these stories could find a better way to add some explanation and education as to how to truly recognize injuries and how to ask the right questions or make the right suggestions. I would love to know how it is possible a boy with those symptoms and that specific point of impact wasn't presumed to have a hemorrhage. I get the CT radiation issue but in the absence of any other way to diagnose a brain bleed you would think this would be done without question. That said, I realize I know very little about this topic but I would think a hematoma would have been presumed and tested for given that some of them are acutely life threatening as this one turned out to be.

The first entire minute is the woman justifying the ER doctor's choice to not give an x-ray to the child immediately.
