Degree apprenticeships are undeniably the future… In this video I will cover the following topics: Why should you consider it? When should you apply? Where should you apply? How should you apply to get the best chances? and my experiences and thoughts so far being in the first year of my degree apprenticeship? [The time stamps for each are currently being displayed]
Why should you consider it?
Degree apprenticeships is the model of education that will inevitably replace typical university courses. They are growing exponentially in popularity and are quickly becoming available in all fields. The long reigning conventional university system has many flaws that degree apprenticeships solve because in degree apprenticeships you do: gain real experience, earn a salary, get your tuition covered by the government, avoid all types of loans and to top it off, you get a fully recognised degree as well as an offer for a full time job at the end.
Someone who has taken a degree apprenticeship will be much more prepared and qualified to get into the real world than standard university students. This is because when you are an apprentice, you are placed directly in the work environment with a metaphorical shield around you - you can make mistakes and learn from them - in fact you are almost encouraged to make mistakes early on so that you don’t make them later in your career.
What attracted me personally is how practically based apprenticeships are - some things are better learnt theoretically and then applied practically e.g., medicine and law. But undeniably, most things are better learnt practically [give an analogy?].
There are more things that can be said - but I think its time to move on…
When should you apply?
+) My friends and I personally began applying around mid-October. Definitely try applying as soon as you can - by the time I discovered some apprenticeships, their deadline already passed - so don’t miss out.
Where should you apply?
The government website, indeed, google search level 6 degree apprenticeships, google search a particular degree e.g. digital technology solutions. Most apprenticeships must be applied to directly through the website. Here are some places I applied to for degree apprenticeships [Show an image].
(Side note: For my fellow Muslims - be wary with where you apply to, because some companies may deal with haram e.g., investment banking - I personally still applied to these places just for the sake of honing my interviewing skills but withdrew my application later in the process)
How should you apply to get the best chances?
Build your portfolio with free online courses - this will highlight you from the rest of the
Candidates,
master interviews by practicing commonly asked questions - this will help with nervousness and also allow you to give much better answers,
create an incredible CV - the employer knows you won’t have much experience - but whatever you do have, sell it nicely in the cv. Bear in mind, a CV is your employers first impression of you, definitely don’t skip out on putting effort into it.
apply to as many places as possible - The more you apply, the better and more comfortable you get with the process

@@maaahhhdi Aameen . I applied to BT, EY and KPMG. I passed the BT video interview but not yet been given an assesment centre date.
@@muhammedk1095 BT is quite good, EY and KPMG in terms of software engineering aren't that good judging from the kind of things others have said (they do have a good name though as they are part of the big 4). Insha'Allah you get into BT, they have quite a highly rated apprenticeship scheme.

Hi thanks for the video, I wanted to ask how you prepped for your interviews were they all different for each company it was there a certain theme?
There was a theme of one general interview usually done pre recorded and then a group interview and finally a 1 to 1 interview.
My prep was mostly just preparing my answers to the most commonly asked questions.

Hi thank you for this video. What are the usual qualification requirements for successful candidates? For example do I need A Levels if I don't have a portfolio of existing projects? Or is it possible to start blind with no programming experience?
Good question, you typically need something equivalent to A-levels. Some of my colleagues did vocational courses at college level. Ideally, your A-levels or equivalent are similar to the degree you're applying for.
The portfolio part is 'optional', but most people will come with basic experience so it will be hard to stand out from them without it.
I am so stuck on wether to go uni or degree apprenstaships and DA sound so much better, the only thing is the career i want is in within criminology but im not sure what to search, any advice?
The biggest limitation of degree apprenticeships is the lack of courses since its a fairly new scheme. I haven't really looked into any degree apprenticeships outside of software engineering. I gave criminology a quick search and found this:

I don't know what an 'integrated degree' is, but you might find it useful.

An insurance company named Ageas was probably most memorable because it was the first company I prepared my interview answers for. It went very smoothly Alhamdulillah 👌

Sorry, I've had quite a few questions like this but I really haven't got a clue. I don't know of any international degree apprentices. You should enquire the companies you apply to. I'm sure they'll mention something like that in the description.
Can i apply for degree apprenticeships for this coming academic year this summer?
You will find it impossible to start applying now this June for a degree apprenticeship starting this September.
Most apprenticeships have closed their application process at this point. It will open again around October for September 2024 intake.
Some apprenticeships don't follow the standard academic year so you may still be able to find something.

bro i got a question. I'm applying to maths degrees on ucas and also degree apprenticeship companies. Does the degree apprenticeship have to be related to the course I'm studying at uni or can it be different. For example doing an accounting degree apprenticeship whilst studying Maths, or do they have to be same subject
I think you might have the wrong understanding of how it works. You don't pick a degree separately, you apply to the apprenticeship and you get the degree that's detailed in the apprenticeship you applied for. Once you get accepted, you are then contacted by the uni side asking you to send your information so you can be enrolled (guaranteed at that point).

The degree I'm doing is digital technology solutions bsc specialising in software (you can specialise in cyber as well) with the university of Exeter. The company I'm with is mentioned in the list I recommended.
It is without a doubt beneficial akhi, I definitely recommend it over doing a normal degree for the reasons I've discussed in my other videos.

It's expected that at your age your CV won't be strong. Do online courses, read books related to your field and do some personal projects to fill up your CV

I done a couple of small courses and put them there (the ones that had certificates so I can prove it later - although they never actually asked for proof). I also put my general programming experience.
