I just wrap my outdoor faucets in hand towels - wrap the towels in saran wrap and secure them with rubber bands. Never had a problem. Do not leave the hose connected as the freezing water in the hose will conduct it's temp straight through the valve.
You are very welcome. It is obvious for a lot of people but it is more obvious when you have a busted pipe🤣 At least this should help someone out from a large repair bill. Thats my whole goal to help people out. Thank you for watching. I hope you had a great holiday and I wish you a Happy New Year. Have a blessed day 😁🙏🙏🙏🙏
In Canada, we shut the inside valve off and open the outside faucet to let water drain out. Another method is to use a frost-free faucet, where the main valve seat is located inside the house.
That is an excellent tip. Fortunately it doesn’t freeze very often in South Texas but when it does we are screwed🤣. Ive looked into those frost free faucets and they do work 100%. I guess its just easier to cover it for most people that is. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. My apologies for the late reply. It has been a rough last couple of months but things are starting to improve slightly. Have a blessed day and Happy Holidays to you😁😎🙏
🤣The only issue I had was rain soaking through the cheap foam and freezing my valve. No biggie, I just put some tape around the top edge. Thank you for the comment, have a blessed day and year🙏😁😘
I clamp a work light with a 60 W incandescent bulb just below the water pipe in the basement, that leads to the faucet outside. Uses minimal electricity and keeps that 2 foot section of pipe warm. Also helps that my basement, though unheated, stays at 55 - 60 F all year long. My foundation is solid poured concrete, a monolithic wall, not block and mortar, therefore keeping the basement much warmer in winter and cooler in summer
Nice tips. For times when it gets really cold (teens or lower) I put one of those chemical pocket warmer packets inside the facet cover you showed. Cheers.
Thats a great idea as well. Whatever to keep the pipe from freezing. I haven’t had any issues. Thank you for watching, have a blessed day and sorry for the late reply😁😎🙏

I live in Atlanta, and last week the temp was down to about 5 degrees! The outside faucets should be replaced with those frost free faucets, if possible. Short of cutting off the water at the street, these seem like the best solution. I did see a device on Amazon that just attaches to the faucet, but have no experience with it. What do they do up North for this issue?
Oh yea, it was horrible. The snow was beautiful but NO POWER AND VERY LOW WATER PRESSURE for 3 days sucked. Good thing I had a generator going and a fire place. If you ever have to deal with a hard freeze, please cover those pipes and open up the doors under your sink. Especially if the sink is by an exterior wall. Both of mine froze last time by using that cover by itself. So if anyone reads this, make sure to wrap them up, then place the cover on. Thank you for watching FALL CHANNEL and have a blessed day and a Happy New Year😎✌️🎉🍾
🤣🤣🤣Thats definitely my favorite. It hasn't failed me yet🤣🤣🤣 And they come in small, medium or large for any hose valve🤣 Thank you for watching and have a blessed day and a Happy New Year😎✌️🎉🍾
You are very welcome. I just hope to save people from a huge bill from the plumber or spending a bunch of money on home damage. Thank you for watching and Have a blessed day and year🙏😁😎
I can tell you without a doubt, that what you're doing will NOT WORK to prevent your faucet from freezing. We just had 3 nights of hard freeze here in TX down to 19 degrees. I have tried those foam covers before - NOPE - I even wrapped them with more covering - NOPE! I bought a sock cover with "thinsulate" this year, put that on with more covering - NOPE. None of that works. I am now looking into heated wiring to wrap around. During Snowmageddon here 3 years ago, I let the faucet run A LOT. It still froze! But the good news is, even thought the water froze it didn't break the pipe bc the water could expand when it froze bc the valve was open. So I guess, the best thing to do in new construction is to install frost free spigots even down south!
I read a huge article they wrote a few years ago where they did a giant study on why pipes break when there are freezing temperatures. The moving water myth was not the answer it was simply because you are allowing for expansion when the water freezes in the pipes like you said. I don't sleep well when I know we are having a hard freeze, so I wake myself up every couple of hours and walk through the house and run the water full blast at every outlet for about 2 minutes. I do this on both the hot and cold lines until I get good hot water out of the hot lines and let the cold run for a couple of minutes. I flush every toilet until the tanks empty a couple of times, and if you do this every couple of hours, the water in the pipes are completely recycled with fresh water and the freeze process has to start all over again. This may sound aggravating, but it seems to work pretty well and it is nothing compared to dealing with burst pipes! If you would just do this process before you go to bed and leave all of your faucets dripping, especially the hot lines, you probably won't have much trouble. The article I read was very informational and said that the hot lines are the ones that break the most often because there is no type of valve that can open up like in a toilet supplied by cold water where the pressure from a line trying to freeze will open the tank valve just enough to let a little water expand into it. There is not anything connected to hot lines that can do this, so they break more often than cold lines.
@@TortureBot , I agree. The first thing I do in the morning is run all the taps. all the while I leave them dripping all night. I also believe that leaving faucets inside drip also helps with the outside spigots if they freeze bc this inside dripping leaves room for water expansion throughout the whole system thoughout your house. But that's just MY belief.
You are correct. When that water starts to freeze it acts like a giant piston and it pushes in both directions of the pipe. If it doesn't have room to go one way or the other something is going to pop, and that will likely be one of your valves on the inside or a weak joint.
I have a 50 year old house and I’ve always used towels and wrapped the spigots completely but I open the faucets inside to a slow drip. The sink cabinets stay open and so far I haven’t had any issues. Fingers crossed!
If you cut off your spigot supply inside and drain the remaining water you shouldn't have to worry about freezing pipes. The cover would do it's job at that point

Hello there. Yes as mentioned in the video, the valve works but is not water tight. So if it rains, water will seep through the cheap foam and could freeze your valve. Its just something to think about but just place some tape around the edge to keep rain from seeping in. Thank you for watching, have a blessed day and year😁😎🙏

Why don’t you just turn the shut off valve INSIDE your house that feeds the outside Generally every outdoor faucet has a dedicated ball valve in the house. Then after shutting that valve OPEN the outside faucet and let the remaining water drain out Why is this so hard ?? You spend ZERO dollars and no water to freeze 😊
