So people, if you want a pet DO NOT go to a pet store to purchase one, either adopt from a shelter or from a reputable breeder!

I saw dozens of animals in similar condition when I volunteered for PAWS. I saw many more that were worse. I even saw some that were so weak and sick from neglect that the only humane thing to do was put them to sleep. I cried myself to sleep so many times!

I have a puppy mill momma. Nine year old white Maltese. It's not just the way they look on the outside that is traumatizing. Moneypenne was skin and bones, bad infected teeth, thin hair that was course and brittle from lack of nutrition. She doesn't even know how to be a dog. After months and months of care she is a beautiful love sponge. She is still learning how to play but doing excellent.
People should NEVER purchase from pet stores.
It is a crime to make this little dog so neglected. I hope the owner of Puppy Mill was punished.

I cant believe this poor dog was used only for breeding and the scum bag that used her didnt even have any respect or appreciation to take care of this dog. No dog should live like this! People that abuse and neglect animals are worthless and shouldn't exist. Im happy this dog finally got some tlc. I hope this dog goes to a great home and can retired happy and cared for.

i just rescued a yorkie a week ago that had to be shaved, although not in this bad shape. i rescued 2 shih tzus earlier this year who were in this bad shape. the happiness they exhibited after being groomed was incredible. when i rescue a dog it never occurs to me to grab a camera, i only think about video and pictures afterbthe dogs are safe and comfortable.

If people stopped buying puppies from them then there would not be no puppy Mills. Why do people not double check all the details when they buy a puppy? Making sure that they are not buying a puppy mill animal. Not rocket science is it.

There needs to be a law against puppy mills across this country and others. It is not right for these awful people to get money for treating these babies like this. Why can we not this changed?

I agree. Make a plan for your animals, just as you would for a young child.
Any loving pet parent makes a plan NOW. Don't just hope, do something to ensure their well-being! I have one person lined up AND a back-up person, as well as setting aside money for my cat's care in my will!

If I did not know better this looked like our Max. He was in the same condition when we fostered him, matted and stained with urine and fecal matter. Groomer would not touch him because Max was so matted to the skin. It took me all weekend to slowly cut the mats off and give him a bath. When I finished he weighed only 4lbs and did not like anyone near him. He has been with us for four years now and a much better looking Yorkie which he loves to ride on my scooter. Because of the way he was treatedm still today he he very leery of people.

That was so sad to see how these puppy mills let these dogs get so matted and that hurts the puppy with the pulling constantly with the matts. It's so painful for them.

I adopted a neglected Yorkie 5 years ago. She was 2 and had never been groomed. She wasn't as bad as this dog but not far off either. I brought her to a vet the day I got her and they told me not to get her groomed for a week because the dog was a nervous wreck. So I had to walk her looking like I was a bad dog owner. She doesn't like the groomer at all. The groomer told me she has to muzzle her. I keep her hair short and get her groomed about 4 times a year.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? this poor puppy finnaly found? He/she is beautiful! Poor baby:( people just don't understand life is beautiful, and you should never EVER abuse that! The poor thing just wanted a life, and it could've been cut short :( I have 3 dogs myself, along with 2 cats. Someday I hope to put an end to thos. It's just not right.

Sad someone can let a dog look that bad and not take care of it. The transformation is incredible. The dog looked grateful to be cleaned up, didn't cower at all. What a sweetie.

Thank you for rescuing this dog, he looks traumatized....but the scissors looked so huge and sharp ...,don't you have the blunted end scissors so he can't be stabbed! Poor wee boy!
People ask what is wrong with puppy mills. They go to the pet store in the mall, and have no idea. The real question is "What isn't wrong with puppy mills?"
This is not a very good example of safe grooming, they should be using a shorter blade to get under the tight matts instead of trying to leave extra coat. The skin should be pulled flat and tight to avoid cutting, rather than pulling on the matts, they pull the skin with them and make dangerous spots that are easy to cut. The dog is bleeding quite badly at one point but we can't see how that happened and it is a possibility with matting so I can make any judgements there. You should NEVER try to cut a matt off with scissors. Please no one try this at home, go to a professional who knows what they are doing and can do it safely.
