Elinalise also had top grades in the magic school but as she only enrolled to seduce the young male students, she dropped out before graduating. Hence she was good with magic, she just didn't care about it much.

Her back story if even further back as the curse itself is from her asking Laplace to modify her mana circle inside her body. The magic crystal is for Orsted to recover since Orsted recover mana naturally really really slow. Her story is basically a tragic one since Laplace change due to certain event and thus making her curse out of control couple with the loss of memories.
It actual ties to the lore of LaPlace and Orsted as in "Old Dragon Tale". Also, the need for sex is probably because she was brought out of the crystal early and her memory loss of her life before being in the crystal was because LaPlace's personality had split into the technique god and the dragon god LaPlace so he became mad and forgot to periodically manage her condition to prevent memory loss.
