Lots of great tips in this one! I had to dig all of my fenceposts by hand and I believe that will be the last fencing I do like that. I borrowed my neighbor's auger when we built our shop and it was a lifesaver!
I made a gantry to back under and use a small chainfall to manipulate things as needed like this makes hook ups easy and use it for tons of other things. I hoist a 5 gal gas can up to fill easy on my kioti. 2 tree's w/ a 6x6 across would work nice too.
Spin the bit out of the hole to clean out the bit and making it lighter. If that doesn't happen (lol), a pipe wrench (to twist the bit in the reverse direction) and a bar will back out the bit.
I don't have an auger yet, but I never thought about how they attach! I just always thought they'd go on my quick-attach! Thx for the video! Informative. Cheers --J.Andre. (i love brittanys)
all these videos on how to use auger, but not a single one has any focus on operating the controls. I can drop my auger to where the point touches the ground and it won't go any lower. I can raise it back up, spin it fast, spin it slow, but I can't press it into the soil. Starting to think I hooked something up wrong.
There are no adjustments to a typical auger on a 3 point hitch....it's either hooked up or it's not. Also there is no down pressure with a 3 point hitch, so when you drop it, it has to be able to cut it's way down into the soil. If the soil is super hard like packed clay, it may just spin on the top. Is it new and the cutting edge sharp? An old auger sometimes won't dig in hard soil because it's too worn. Here's another angle of me digging: th-cam.com/video/0Ss4rTMuNo4/w-d-xo.html Send us an email with pictures of your setup if you're still having problems.
OMG, this is not rocket science. A string line, 2 levels, an 8 minute dissertation on digging a hole. I think a year later, this guy is 3 poles farther down the line on his fence. *edit* I guess I was in a mood this day. Apologies.

Definitely a tool that can pay for itself quickly! Tractor Hard!

You don't have to dig it manually, you go to the shop and fire up the excavator. What's wrong with you? LOL
Thank you, very helpful. Gonna use one of these to plant a line of crepe myrtle trees.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Just bought one from tractor supply, definitely didnt think about the pain it is to hook up to the tractor!
They can be....and if you ever bend the top piece, it's harder!
Wow, you have well behaved dirt! Mine doesnt stick to the auger at all and it refills 1/2 the hole no matter how many times I lift and spin.
It's been trained!

it's frustrating when they get stuck!
I saw a guy put some 4x4s between the gearbox and ground and this allowed the auger to spin without going further down and he got it out that way.

That boom can be a bear to line up too!! And Bella is in lots of our videos especially our new fence series. Thanks for watching.
this augurs well for you
It's clay with some sand.
Mmm... I may just win! That's a big auger!
Well....the fence still isn't done. More videos coming!

Not everyone is as skilled as you. That's what makes TH-cam a great resource for people wanting to learn.
Why do people have to comment on videos just to be negative. I just don't get it. Anyways, great video, very informative.
