Thanks for the ride, am 86 Year of age. Drove this road in January 1957 in a 1955 Chevy. I grew up in Hollister.

Probably hasn’t changed very much in the intervening years!

Love your videos. I grew up a little north of here and still love exploring this area as well as it's history back to Spanish California.

Thanks for watching & commenting! We love exploring these back roads, and we have a few more planned this year.

Interesting that all the off the beaten track roads in San Benito County I've done them many times.

Definitely interested to learn of others in the area. New Idria is on the list.

@@fourwheeltravel There was a washout on the way to New Idria that may be passable. It's also the back way to Clear Creek. A video I did th-cam.com/video/CE7VCeKQo_0/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=BobRowlands

Nice video, we'll have to get up there through Clear Creek to New Idria, it is on the todo list!

Used to be a caretaker at the gun club at pavements end.
About a dozen times while I was there, non English reading (or much less speaking) truck drivers continued up the windy dirt road passing three separate warning signs for large trucks
    to not to do so.
They were all 53’ produce rigs coming from Dole packing plant in Soledad whose drivers erroneously made a right hand turn at the intersect of Gloria and Camphora roads.
All Should have made a left turn when going to Misionero farms.
Use to happen day and night.
I’d run out the door trying to flag the trucks down in order to get ‘em to stop but most just kept going into the abyss eventually requiring a 4 axle wrecker from Salinas to pull
the trucks backwards down the road.
    The cost of doing business.

I can totally see that happening! I would imagine all bets are off if you persist along that route in a big rig, and I will say that although there are notices, they come across more like warnings rather than, "STOP, TURN AROUND, DANGER!!!" If you get a big rig up that road, there is no way you'll make it and nowhere to turn around.

It's a scenic drive but yes the washboards are ridiculous.

Yep, you probably need to air down the tires but at that moment I did not have a compressor to hand. For a county maintained road it is pretty poor.

Thanks! They increase the video running time, but useful for a quick overview.

Yay for the hyper lapse. Very nice for checking road conditions.
By the way, rode “hi mountain road” down near pozo. You might like it. It is tougher.

Thanks for the comment! The hyperlapse makes the video longer but does give a more complete picture. Thanks for the tip on Hi Mountain Road - I have not been to Pozo yet and it is on the to-do list! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Hi just stumbled on your channel. Just subbed and look forward to seeing more with your new camper. I am in line to get one similar to yours in May of 2023.

@@fourwheeltravel Check out the camper from Lone Peak. That is what I have on order. A lot like yours but the tent is a wedge tent. Can't wait to be able to stand up in truck. We do like our Leer camper but the added room will be a pleasant add on.

Ah those look sweet! I don't think I've seen these before, but they look really nice. Standing up in the truck is a game changer. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

@@fourwheeltravel It is a new start up company. I got in on a good deal. 4995.00 but then had to pay 1,000.00 for delivery. I think he has them on web site now for 5995.00. He has a TH-cam channel I think it is Lone Peak Overland. I like yours and the full expandable roof. Do you use a diesel heater in winter? I was wondering how well they heat a space that size?

    • @fourwheeltravel
      @fourwheeltravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@waterandlandadventures4319 we got ours in mid-December and as of now it is still a blank canvas waiting to be built out. Not sure about the heating, but I will insulate the solid walls at least. I'll likely post updates here as we progress with the build-out. We did get the intake/exhaust fan to help with condensation, and a prewire for solar, but basically, it is still as we got it for now.

How much time did it take one way?

I'm collecting that info on our website, for this track:
      four.wheel.travel/la-gloria-road/
You'll also find interactive 3D maps over there. In this case it's a total of ~17 miles and about an hour one way, including the paved section at the Gonzalez end.
