  • The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy takes almost everything we could want in a family crossover SUV, and wraps it up into one package. From the innovative technology to the spacious interior, to the comfortable driving dynamics, the Hyundai Santa Fe is a superb family hauler, or if you're like us, a great midsize SUV to downsize to from driving something like a Chevy Suburban. One of the best aspects of the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe's interesting boxy styling is that it feels far roomier inside than its exterior would suggest, and while driving a Hyundai Palisade isn't exactly enormous, the Santa Fe feels notably smaller without sacrificing much in the way of cargo carrying capability, flexibility, and amenities. In fact, in Calligraphy trim, the Hyundai Santa Fe feels as though it covers almost all of the excellent options available on the slightly larger Hyundai Palisade while providing some that the Palisade lacks (such as the dual wireless chargers and disinfection station) and a better infotainment technology experience. The only downside to the Hyundai Santa Fe is the powertrain because Hyundai insists on using a dual clutch automatic for some reason, but that's easily remedied by choosing the hybrid option instead with its conventional six speed automatic. In fact, you can get the Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid in Calligraphy trim with FWD instead of H-TRAC all-wheel drive for under $50k, which is a fantastic deal. Let us know what you think of Megan's new favorite vehicle, and don't be surprised if you see one in our driveway at some point in the future. This is one of the best family SUVs on the market, and you should absolutely check it out for yourself.

Thanks for the honest review. I too thought this design was awful, and the interior was too simple, just straight lines. After several months I've begun to accept the qualities and the interior has some nice aspects to it. I'm looking at purchasing the Calligraphy hybrid, not so much for the fuel economy, but to get the conventional 6 speed transmission. The only hesitation I have is that i'll soon be working from home and the last time I did my driving miles dropped off to a couple thousand a year. Just trying to justify a 50K+ vehicle just sitting in my garage.

Most regular car buyers care more about mpg. Hyundai's DCT is used for that purpose.
That's why mainstream manufacturers use CVTs and DCTs. No matter how much automatic transmissions improve, it's hard for them to surpass the fuel efficiency of CVTs and DCTs due to their mechanical characteristics. Why? Because the torque converter causes significant energy loss.
If the car had a regular automatic transmission, you will see below 20 mpg.
Hyundai's DCT is tuned more for smooth shifting rather than shift speed, unlike the DCTs in VW, Audi, or BMW.
This is why car reviewers often make the mistake of comparing it to a traditional automatic. Among the DCTs on the market today, Hyundai/Kia’s DCT is the smoothest.

Yeah... head-up display is fully adjustable on 95% of the cars. Finding where the setting is might be a challenge, but it's there somewhere!
The deal breaker for me in these H/K/G ice models is the freaking DCT. On a sports car... fine. These are not sports car.
    Thanks for the review!

The DCT is certainly puzzling. From a cost standpoint, they obviously carried it over to save money, but it's literally the only part of the Hyundai Santa Fe that doesn't feel dialed in and carefully considered, which is a shame because the total package is so good.

The 2025 santa fe caligraphy has a hybrid now top trim and no dct transmission. Planning to get that or palisade.

You both are so good at this. Gotta say this was on my list. Drove it, had it for two days, kinda hated it. I need a vehicle to go back and forth between Chicago & PGH.
All new for me this month. Bought a Toyota Crown Signia Limited for the cross-haul. Cannot wait to see your review.

Thanks so much! Really looking forward to getting the Crown Signia for a week. We're both big fans of that, but we haven't gotten to live with it yet. Thanks for watching!
