I'm chuckling to myself, as I caught myself grinning away with joy to see that young man drive that Hitachi down the road. He IS going to be another well trained and good operator when he get's to be a bit older.
    Well done Chris!

Thats awesome! I started at 9 years old. First machine I ever ran was a 942 liebherr. I dug a small hole and my grandad backfilled it. I will never ever forget that as long as I live. That young man will remember his dad and most likely Chris as well, for helping him practice his skills.

Thanks for the explanation on why it is not advisable to leave random trees that had been growing in the woods when you clear land. I was not aware of that problem.

It was always so exciting for me when my dad brought home the crane and bulldozer after a job was done. I don't think he ever let me drive it- but I remember sitting in the seat pretending. lol! He even took my sister and I to work with him once! We were probably around 10, and we mostly played- but he did give us a ride in the bulldozer, and he drove it down the ditch embankment backwards!! Scared the crap out of me but at the same time I knew he wouldn't do anything that would hurt us. I can remember it like it was yesterday.

Man what I would give to have a machine like that for a day out on my property. I have a small backhoe on a subcompact tractor that does the same thing to trees around 3 or 4 inches in diameter. I would love to take down some of the bigger ones like that rather than with my current method of using a chainsaw and a stump grinder.
