this was so fucking beautiful, Gangstarr always represented and embodied what REAL Hip Hop is...or was. i dare anyone to mention any new artist out right now that raps about these guys where portraying. RIP Guru your messege, lyrics and music will live for ever.
“Some try to be down just cuz it’s trendy others fall victim to envy, but I’ll take the road less traveled so I can see all my hopes and dreams unravel” gurus wisdom lives on endlessly. Rest in power king 💚
Step In the Arena! The only album I ever bought on record, cassette tape, CD, and digital download! One of my top 5 albums of all time, thanks for sharing!!! RIP Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal
I remember when these were new albums. My favorite hip hop duo of all time. That truly was the best ERA of Hip Hop the mid to late '80s and the '90s. .
Yo I see that akai MPC 60ii and the akai s950 in the back. Premo been using that same beat making setup for over 25 years. They look mad young, im glad i saw this piece of history from 1990. Much love and long live real hip hop music.
I still remember the day it was released in England on a Tuesday cos I even booked the afternoon off work so I could collect it from the record store..Great times and memories
I love this. Hip hop was my life back in 90 as a young 12 yr white kid. Gang Starr became one of my favorite groups after hearing Manifest, Jazz thing and Step in The Arena. Incredible music. RIP Guru-thank you so much
Just thank you for posting this. I just could not listen enough to this album as a teen and the lyrics are forever etched in mind. I just knew they were going to have a solid career. The other day, my brother and I compared our top 10 Gangstarr tracks and our lists were quite different. That speaks to the depth of their catalog of music. And to be honest, I can’t even make a top 10 list with a duo of this caliber. More like a top 50 and even then I’d be leaving out some high quality tracks.
Probably not unfortunately, they broke up in the early 2000's after releasing their last album The Ownerz. Guru went his own way and started working with Solar (a horrible choice if you ask me) and that's what he did until he passed away in 2010.
This footage of the legendary gangstarr is absolutely fantastic. Today's so called hip-hop makes me sick.....also sad to know that most of today's artist's can't even tell you who Gangstarr is.....I just shake my head...
Mannnn, much respect for uploading this. This is Hip Hop history right here. I even peeped the s950 and mpc60 in the background at the end of the video. Weird to see Preem so skinny, but still have that same raspy voice.
THANK YOU sincerely for sharing this with the world! without people like you, the internet would be a boring place. 'Like', 'Add to Favourites', etc. doesn't do justice to quite how brilliant it is to see this og footage. Best video I've seen on youtube forever...!
Word. There’s a huge difference between how he was in front of the camera then and how he is now. He’s grown way more comfortable in front of the camera over the years.
emcees are the showmen, dj producers are usually the shy type who spend all their time in their bedroom/studio, i can't get over how young primo looks lol
Thats not how it used to be orignally though. DJs were hyping up the crowd back in the day on a regular basis. It was part of the profession interacting with the crowd talking to them etc.
this was so fucking beautiful, Gangstarr always represented and embodied what REAL Hip Hop is...or was. i dare anyone to mention any new artist out right now that raps about these guys where portraying. RIP Guru your messege, lyrics and music will live for ever.
A decade of hits that will last forever
Gresilda
Guru is like that uncle in your family that's so cool, you just gravitate towards him cause he always got a story.
That's what made me a fan lol

I peeped that too but Preem has said many times that he didn't start using the 60 until the Daily Operation album
That was not his plus he used the mark 2 model first
That’s the 60 mk 1
I still remember the day it was released in England on a Tuesday cos I even booked the afternoon off work so I could collect it from the record store..Great times and memories

Thank you for what has made my mind set , every song was a different vibe in my life
This, right here, is why i love hiphop. When i hear the radio, and the social convention when it comes to hiphop slang, i forget sometimes.
Premo is so skinny here :D
if guru was still alive maybe a new Gangstarr album would have been out
One of the best yet ?
It's already out GEE!!!

You can tell how uncomfortable Preemo was in the begining with the camera. 😂
Word. There’s a huge difference between how he was in front of the camera then and how he is now. He’s grown way more comfortable in front of the camera over the years.
