  • Buddha #4: The parable of the poisoned arrow #buddhastory #poisonedarrow
Once upon a time, there was a man who was shot by a poisoned arrow. He was in great pain and went to the Buddha for help.
The Buddha removed the arrow, but the man was still in pain. He asked the Buddha why he was still in pain, even though the arrow had been removed.
The Buddha said, "You have been shot by a second arrow, the arrow of suffering. The first arrow is the physical pain, but the second arrow is your mental suffering. You can remove the first arrow, but you must let go of your mental suffering to remove the second arrow."
The man realized that the Buddha was right. He had been so focused on the physical pain that he had not realized that he was also suffering mentally. He let go of his anger and resentment, and the mental suffering disappeared.
    Moral of the story:
This story teaches us that our thoughts and emotions can have a powerful impact on our experience of the world. Even if we are experiencing physical pain, we can minimize our suffering by letting go of negative thoughts and emotions.
We can do this by practicing mindfulness and meditation. Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment without judgment. Meditation is the practice of focusing our attention on a single object or thought.
When we practice mindfulness and meditation, we learn to observe our thoughts and emotions without judgment. We also learn to let go of our thoughts and emotions. This can help us to reduce our suffering and to live happier and more fulfilling lives.
The Buddha taught us that the mind is a powerful tool. We can use our minds to create happiness and suffering. It is up to us to choose how we use our minds.
