That 1996 damage at 2:22 is probably a reference to the release date of the first Metal Slug game (April 19, 1996).
Nice easter egg catch dude!
I never noticed originally but the entire metal slug series has some of the craziest pixel art of any game series.
Steam page had nearly 2 years straight of radio silence.
Seeing this video felt like I stumbled on an animal i thought was extinct
I adore Metal Slug's artstyle and aesthetic. I wish there was more merch of it, like scale models and stuff
The dodge system is basically to make the game "run and gun" like the main games
yeah it's a clever way to do it
Yeah it's a very zippy tactics game, you're heavily rewarded for using all your movement points every turn.
Some people may not vibe with that but personally I prefer it to the more cover heavy style. Got my fair share of slowly creeping from cover to cover baiting overwatch kills with XCOM.
@@PotionSmeller I will say Eri is very broken cause for some reason they gave her an in built canto and a skill that acts like galeforce
@@PotionSmeller okay, but like... is there any reason to not use all of your movement every turn? if you just get rewarded for using what was already something you'd want to use anyways, doesn't that just remove strategy? Like, with cover based systems, you have to pick and choose, weigh your pros and cons. Moving max distance every turn just seems like only pros.
@@ihave2cows You still have to correctly position your units to maximize dmg like most tactics games and sync attacks are extremely important, so you often must balance between setting up for maximum dmg and generating defense/resources.
Some builds can still break the game in its current state, but that's demos for ya.
this is fun - I played it for a few runs.
the main issue is when you are pushing tab to switch characters, the abilities dont change sometimes.
its a bug that fixes itself when you go to title screen but its annoying
If the main issue is a bug, we're cooking. Surely will be fixed when it isn't a demo.
I still don't get the cover system enemy stand behind cover but i stand right behind enemy, i shoot enemy straight to the face but all my shots count as destroy the cover but not the enemy
@@tranuchoa1254 Cover always applies when next to a cover block, regardless of orientation.
How long i have waited for this game.
Every now and then i remembered "man by now metal slug tactics must surely be out" just to find it still not released, with not even a new trailer to be seen
I love that title screen, whoever made it knows Metal Slug and that fills me with confidence for this game.
There is just 1 character missing, where the heck is Tarma??? Tarma Roving needs to be added. he is 4th character that you can select in medal slug 3....
@@dodang_9147 Tarma is in the game! You can unlock him by beating the boss on the demo.
@@dodang_9147 He's gonna be in it, there was trailer last week i believe that has gameplay from him, i hope we get a bunch of the characters that showed up in the series
@@dodang_9147Tarma unlocks after you beat the demo
@@rafaeltola7514 you get him for beating final boss in the demo. He is a melee character. if you pay 30 gold, you can use his alternate load out to make him a grenade character like Eri.
Yay! I'm so happy you covered this one! It's been pretty fun for me, just hoping that they add even more perks/abilities for the full release.
I heard the OG devs from the first three games are gone. Then there were new ones for MS4 & 5, but then closed the company due to low profit too. After that I have no idea, but it looks like the METAL SLUG TACTICS devs Honor the series with easter eggs & familair gimmicks, like the Dodge mechanic & increased Damage the closer You're between an enemy, what fullfills the Classic metal slug "run & gun" aspect, but in a tactic Game.
Edit: you unlock more characters than these basic 4. Two addtional characters I think could be Trevor & Nadia from Metal Slug 4.
This game is pretty cool. Reminds me a lot of into the breach. I think once they clean up a few things it'll be pretty cool.
Hey Reto i saw this new roguelike called 9 Sols and I would love for you to play it and ideally do a series. Other TH-camrs did but I would like to see a gameplay by my fav roguelike TH-camr :)
9 Sols isn't a roguelike, but maybe I'll look at it if I run out of other nextfest games!
@@Retromation I was so afraid to get this kind of reply as I always mix roguelike and roguelite despite I heard the difference so many times on your vids ahah. Got it, I still hope you’ll play it soon :) all the best!
Not a roguelite either haha, it is a metroidvania
@@Retromation FML ahahahah
metal slug never interested me before, but this game is criminally good, like holy heck the devs knew how to make a fun tactical game
Make a series for this Demo man. Let goo
Honestly loving this and would love to see the rest of the mission!
Ooo what's this, I love the original arcade style Metal slug games
Marco doesn't look as weird as he should
Into the Breach vibes (turn based iso view team tactics)
The undo options, region setup, and timed map also feel very similar. Love to see it honestly; Into the Breach had a lot of great ideas but IMO lacked enough variety between and during runs, so we'll see how this game does in that regard.
Ohh, please do a second video so we can see the meta progression!
In the character selection screen you can see fio play metal slug next to Kof/Aof "Ryu vs King "
Absolute insane animations. Wishlisted it.
As a Mexican Metal Slug fan, I am excited for this!
When you shot that exploding barrel, you should have used an airstrike for that. Just for the fun of it.
I havent played tactic games in a while man I kinda suck I really wanna like this game I might pick up some guide later
Oh boooy I’m a huge metal slug fan and had no idea this was coming out 😮
As a minor note, while the link goes to the right game, your description after it seems to be for the "Find room 46" game you were demoing previously? It's a little thing but just figured you might want to know.
This looks like fun. Sign me up!
i'm sold
Front mission 3, is it you? Love it!
Yo metal slug. I thought this franchise was practically dead im so happy.
Definitely seems fun. The anti-turtle incentives are much appreciated. Would love a series of this, @Reto, could you be persuaded to do a longer look in the demo or when the game releases?
lucky! makes me want to get steam.
hope it comes to the phone! 😄
When is this coming to consoles can’t wait to play w😎🤩🤩
Metal slug tactics game? You have my interest
POG!
OBB next lol? 😄
Can we get more!
It's out????
Its not even a roguelike, the levels are predetermined and learnable, yknow like the games that inspired it. Its just an arcade game with upgrades lol
They assure it is a roguelike, but you do you!
@@RetromationIs it? If it is the demo is kinda misleading. I'd much prefer if it's designed to be consistent as a homage to the arcade games, which is how the demo plays out. I died a few times to a specific stage but enjoyed working my way back up to it with the knowledge of the other stages I learned in my first run.
If the final game's stage order is randomly generated from a pool I feel like it won't be nearly as fun.
I want to get to the point where I have the early game completely nailed down and know exactly which moves to take to speed through it just from repetition.
Yes, they state at multiple points on the steam page, and throughout all of the marketing that it is a roguelike. The demo might not have all the features that would imply it yet, but it is.
That starting tutorial has to go. No more hand-holding! I'd quit the game right away.
