If you like traveling at all, chances are you have a bucket list of places you'd like to go on vacation to! And somewhere on that list, if you haven't been already, are the Maldives.
My wife and I have been dreaming of going to the Maldives for quite a while. Looking through Instagram and watching travel videos on TH-cam, its nearly impossible to avoid seeing content filmed in the Maldives, as its become a massively popular (and slightly more accessible) tourist destination in recent years. I suppose this constant stream of influencers had an effect on me as well, as I used to have some reservations about traveling to places like the Maldives. For one thing, lying around on a beach for days on end just isn't my idea of a great vacation, as I like to be more active - to explore and look for new experiences. Secondly, the Maldives seemed to be too over hyped and "fashionable", not to mention the fact that kid friendly travel and Maldives just didn't seem to go together. But nonetheless, the desire to see the tropical paradise that is the Maldives grew in me year after year, and this season, for our tenth wedding anniversary, we decided to bite the bullet and try to have a family friendly vacation in the Indian Ocean.
After a ton a research and watching too many reviews online, we decided that Kandima Resort was one of the best options for travelers with kids, for many reasons. It's a fairly new resort, the island itself is quite large (compared to other islands in the Maldives) which means that there's more to see and do, there is a Doctor/ Medical Center on the island, and the amenities that are necessary for a family all seemed to be in place at Kandima.
If any of you are reading this right now and are considering going to Kandima or the Maldives in general with kids - do it. I highly recommend Kandima especially, we had an absolute blast and only regret not having gone earlier and not having booked a longer stay. I can honestly say that we were overwhelmed with positive experiences at Kandima, and definitely plan on coming back in the future. Not only is it possible to enjoy yourself in the Maldives with little kids, but it can also be pretty much picture perfect too.
I initially had a lot of concerns about the flight and transfers, about dining options, about the various logistical and technical things that go along with vacationing with little kids, but everything just kind of fell into place at Kandima: Initially I wanted to review everything in this video, but it ended up being too long (and boring). So instead, I've decided to make a montage of our vacation, but I've also included brief tours of two types of rooms - the Beach Studio (which is just like the Sky Studio but on the ground level) and the best villa on the island - the Honeymoon Aqua Villa, which was luxurious and awesome in too many ways! Also in this video you'll find time lapses of the stars and hyperlapses across the island, 360 footage of the main guest areas, drone footage over Kandima and the surrounding area, video of the bike paths, and some underwater shots as well! I tried to keep things more or less chronological, so you'll also get to see Male international airport (we flew Moscow to Male), and then the domestic transfer flight within the Maldives.
I would be delighted to answer any of your questions about traveling to the Maldives with kids, so don't hesitate to get in touch - I'm always happy to reply, and I'm ready to share the good, the bad and the ugly :)

Thank you very much for taking the time to watch!
If you enjoyed the video, it would be great if you'd subscribe for more! Also, I'd love to hear your ideas on what you'd like to see me film in Russia, or otherwise!
    - Filmed in 4K UHD on Nikon Z6 mirrorless camera
    - Zhiyun Crane Lab III Used for Video Stabilization (when possible)
    - Timelapses recorded as RAW Photos, edited in Lightroom Classic and interpreted at 25 fps in premiere.
    - Fluidity of timelapse motion enabled by two Syrp Genie Mini II
    - Aerial Footage shot with DJI Mavic 2 Pro
    - Underwater Footage shot with DJI Osmo Action
    - 360 Footage shot with Insta360 One X (on the invisible selfie stick!)
    - I think that's it :D I brought a lot of equipment, to try and capture EVERYTHING!

The Maldives definitely surprised me, I was initially sure it would be an overrated experience. 10/10 would visit again.

We have been searching and watching videos of Kandima for the last month and I'm sure we have by now watched all of them we could find on TH-cam and I can honestly say that this one is one of the best I've seen so far. The footage is just amazing, your camera work is out of this world and the compilation is just on another level. (We've watched it at least 20x times over) lol.
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing time spent with your beautiful family at the Kandima resort and please continue to share expierences like this in the future.
My fiance and I, will be visiting the resort in Feb 2023 to celebrate our honeymoon and we just cannot wait, especially after watching your video.
We're also planning to take a drone with and we have recently purchased a Insta360 X3 camera which we are hoping to record as much of our experience as possible. Did you have any issues to fly the drone in terms of permission and is there any advise that you can possible give us? 🙏
    Thank you

Taking the ages of your kids into account, an island like Ayada is probably the better option for you. Really, I do recommend taking a look at Amari Havvoda, it's geographically very close to Ayada, has the same overall island structure, is newer and more budget friendly 😀 plus it has a great rating on Google Maps)

Hi great video can you help me with this ?
    1) how long in advance did you book this holiday
    2) was the boat transfer to the hotel ok for the kids after long flight ?
    3) was too expensive the drinks and snacks or you did all inclusive ? Thinking on doing half board .
    4) was enough activities for the kids or at some-point runout of entertainment ?

    • @NormalDayRussia
      @NormalDayRussia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi there! Thanks for watching :)
      Regarding your questions:
1.) I booked about 2 weeks in advance
2.) The kids were tired after the two flights, but were also excited to go on the boat. We didn't have any issues there.
3.) We went with the fullboard option, 3 meals per day. We would go back and forth between the two buffet restaurants for every meal. Theres more than enough to eat and drink, you won't need to oay for anything additionally. Plus theres free water in the rooms, replenished everyday. The all inclusive option is unnecessary, unless you're planning to drink a lot of alchohol.
4.) The island is really big by Maldivian standards, just exploring it on foot is fun and interesting. The beach and the pools alone are enough to keep the kods occupied (and tire them out) for several days. We enjoyed looking for the best swim spots, with more fish, coral, etc. On top of that, there is a child care facility which is more of a entertainment facility. They come up with really fun programs, and all the kids enjoy the time spent there.
plus there are a lot of additional paid activities that you can aign up for, but there's really no need, unless you plan on staying for a very extended amount of time. The only extra I recommend is the bikes - it makes getting around the island more enjoyable, and you get to work a little before (and after) going to the restaurants) The food is REALLY good. Its a big problem!))

    • @NormalDayRussia
      @NormalDayRussia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, Mary!
Thank you for your comment. My children were just-turned 3 and 5.5 when we went on this trip.
We had no issues whatsoever during the flight, but then again we took the direct 10 hour flight from Moscow instead of the leg through Qatar. The little ones slept most of the way to the Maldives, and played games on the way back. (However, they are accustomed to long trips because we often go on very long drives in the car).
The airport in Male was overcrowded and a little underwhelming, but it serves ita purpose well, and we were very happy with the service we received from Maldivian airlines.
As for the food, the kids section in Kandima is very basic - think french fries and chicken nuggets, + maybe some fruit. But there is an excellent selection of food (including dietary options) for adults, which allowed us to find fitting, healthy and tasty meals for our little ones. As far as adults are concerned, I think the food there is fantastic - everyone can find something they like.
If you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask, I'm more than happy to share my experience!

Obviously this leaves out the fish and other sea life) We went all over the island, but I didn't see a single mouse))) But who knows, maybe they swim from island to island sometimes 🏝️😂

The transfer to the island is a seperate payment that you make upon arrival at the hotel (you need to arrange this beforehand by contacting Kandima support).
