    What the hell is that sax VST?? The RISE makes it shine even more, but I've never found one that sounds that good.
    I swear it was a real sax player standing behind the curtain.

    • @WeAreROLI
      @WeAreROLI  9 ปีที่แล้ว +86

      +burmashavetom Hi there, the sax sound comes from the SWAM plugin by Sample Modeling. It's the most realistic sax sound we've encountered and it works beautifully on the RISE. www.samplemodeling.com/en/swam_saxophones.php

    • @daMONSTERSpeaks
      @daMONSTERSpeaks 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      +burmashavetom even the standup bass, i can hear the fret board slap. kinda crazy!

    • @marekarnold
      @marekarnold 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      its maybe the most realistic vst sax, and the seaboard is the perfect way to play it on a controller. But as an saxophon player I still have to say - no, its not sounding like the real deal. But hey - the crowd even thought, the sax on "Mr.Saxobeat" was a real one - so this VST already really works great in an arrangement.

    • @iamprodukt

      hmm, interesting opinion you have there.

    • @marekarnold

      I did not say that. Insaid, the vst sax you can hear in the demo is the best i could hear until today, but its still not like a real one.

      Not sure this kind of technology would suit on Daft Punk idea of music. I mean, Daft Punk compose with real instruments, which will always have something this kind of keybords won't have (the typical analogical warmth and many other things). The seaboard has to be linked to a software to work (correct me if I'm wrong) and I think it has been projected also to emulate other instruments, but Daft Punk have always avoided to use digital VST and in my opinion they're not looking for an instrument which partially tries to emulate some others. Sorry for my english :)

    i belive taht the reason that sax sounded so real was because of the Seaboard RISE's pressure sensativity so you dont have the preciseness that you would get from a normal keyboard allowing for little fluctuations and slight pitch dropoffs at the end of the notes. that and good samples help too

      PhagexLasher you do know that some people in the edm community spend hundreds of hours working through a single song and even then they might play something on the synth for ten seconds two hundred separate times just to get that one string of notes to sound perfect in their mind. It's an asshole comment because it doesn't work like he wants it to and people already put it in huge amounts of work

    • @rasmuss.jrgensen3161
      @rasmuss.jrgensen3161 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Xantho Poulos Even if it "doesn't work like i want it to" i said what i ment, and i said it how i ment it. So even though you or others might interpret my comment, i know what i said and what i ment, and the only goal with this comment was to express me genuine feeling at the time. So i wont defend my comment because someone reads it in a different way than me. But go a head.

    • @ZZPxFTW
      @ZZPxFTW 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      but in reality, producing on a laptop isnt much different. if anything, its less intuitive. the filters to get that vibrato sound would take a bit of time and effort to sound as nice as they did on the seaboard. I can see what youre getting at, though. this is much more of an instrument than a program, and as such, these people are more musicians, which earns your respect. But, as an amateur pianist/guitarist/percussionist who also produces as a hobby, i ask to you look at it differently. The view you have isn't uncommon; many people see producers as just DJ's and not musicians. and, its not unwarranted either, many big name producers cant even play an instrument. But, producing a song from scratch (melodies of chord progressions in the appropriate scale, timing, and complex layering, ect..) takes at least SOME musical skill and effort, and i dont think you should discredit them because of their "instrument." just something to think about.

    • @petter9078
      @petter9078 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Dubstep/future bass has been fucked due to Cymatics.. There has been oversaturation of samples and loops which made the genres too generic. Everyone wanted that brostep/skrillex sound. Luckily it is changing now towards more musicality. Drag & drop samples won't make your music timeless and original like The Beatles, ACDC and Michael Jackson where human hands creates its uniqueness. Electro in the other hand does not lie under this list. There are infinite genres under Electro which has its nuances (for those who listen to it on a daily basis). Whereas Deadmau5, B.T, and Daft Punk is something I would consider listening to in 20 years time due to its musicality and not for its nostalgia.

      Bright, my friend. Imagine the richness and diversity of the music scene when it isn't restricted to the relatively few that can master an instrument. And even those that master instruments can master all at once, instead of re-learning for every instrument.
      Welcome to the future.

      Pressing keys that replicate a saxophone's notes is nothing like actually playing the sax and takes so little skill in comparison

    • @auburnboi09
      @auburnboi09 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Angus Fraser idk about that. They all seem to be proficient piano players and learning the piano takes just as much if not more time and effort than learning the saxophone. I'd say they have plenty skill. Plus someone who just started learning to play an instrument has "liitle skill" and I highly doubt it they could do anything with this.

    • @auburnboi09
      @auburnboi09 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Angus Fraser And you're right, it's not the same as playing a sax. If they wanted to do that they would you know...play a sax. Why can't other people do different things? Who are they really hurting?

    I bet sweaty fingers are a huge issue for live performances with this instrument...

      its the same with a guitar, cello or any string instrument. people will learn their way around it.

      I play guitar and it is not the same. Sweat in combination with such a smooth rubbery surface is way more troublesome, especially when you have to rely on consistent friction.

      DallasGreen123 I've tried one in person, and the rubber is actually very grippy. So sweat may "help", if you're looking to move around easier.

    Inspiring piece of technology. Opens the door to more musical expression through a keyboard using both hands, not just one (because the other is turning the knobs)
