- BONGBONG MARCOS, SARA DUTERTE PROCLAIMED AS NEWLY-ELECTED LEADERS OF THE PHILIPPINES
Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. was proclaimed Wednesday as the new president of the Republic of the Philippines by the Congress, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers.
Marcos was proclaimed after he emerged as the winner of the presidential race in the 2022 elections.
Congress also proclaimed his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio as the newly-elected vice president of the Philippines.
Marcos and Duterte campaigned for the national post under BBM-Sara UniTeam, whose campaign centered on unity.
Marcos obtained over 31 million votes in the 2022 elections.
Duterte-Carpio also won the elections with more than 31 million votes.
The proclamation of the newly-elected leaders of the Philippines was held two days after the canvassing of votes for the president and vice president was opened by the Congress.
