The genius of Purcell, a very dynamic, expressive music all in lightness and equilibrium, my favorite 17th century composer, for me the most talented of his time.
When you have the vocalists swaying in the breeze of the music you know you have an engaging piece of music. Croatian Baroque Ensemble has done a superlative job in delivering the lilting rhythms and exquisite melodies of Purcell with perfect timing and precision. You have authentically brought 17th century England to life. Thank you all!!
Wow, that was so so beautiful! I remember having listen to Purcell when I was at University, studying architecture. His music fascinated me, but this rendition has taken it to great Heights. God bless all the performers for creating this wonderful piece.🙏
An excellent, energetic, committed and lively performance that sacrifices nothing of precision in a very convincing rendering. All deserve an enduring round of applause.
Spectacular. Social performance standards in Purcell's time called for countertenors but the female soloists made this performance very special and warm. The Queen would have been pleased. There is a subtle softening of each note that you don't get with the "castrati" voice. Matana and Borse have a super and a pleasant contrast. Purcell himself, a countertenor, probably never heard such subtleness or he would have selected females. No slackers in Zagreb. Way classy beyond Robert King's or Alfred Deller's (I have the latter on an LP I bought in the 1960's).
4:36 the microphone if front of the Alto is not working, and is making her voice sound muffled. When she moves to another position at 6:02 you can hear her perfectly.
This is the first piece of Baroque music I ever heard (1970s) and was hooked on the Baroque from then on. This performance is just what I imagine it would have sounded like in the 1700’s; a little thin, scratchy and reedy; slightly amateurish but so right for original instruments.

The sounds of the Golden ages!!
No one does vocal music better than Purcell as this performance amply demonstrates.
i loved the beauty of these very natural sounding voices and this most convincing baroque interpretation from the whole ensemble.

This marvelous concert is a joy in time of Corona !
Magnifique ! Vous êtes le meilleur orchestre de musique baroque que je connaisse !

Au contraire, j'en connais beaucoup, mais c'est celui-ci que je préfère.
Les goûts et les couleurs, ça ne discute pas. 😉

What a fine performance!
Une des meilleures interprétations de cette œuvre... BRAVO !!
Mention spéciale pour le contralto
Enjoyed it very much - quite different from the English performances I've heard previously
Sublime. Les mânes de Purcell peuvent être fier de vous.
Quite beautiful.
Fabulous. I hope they perform Loves Goddess Sure...which is in my view even more beautiful.
Excellent - great music from Croatian Baroque.
Beautiful. I need to find out more about the Croatian Ensemble

A truly STAGGERING contralto ...

Wonderful.
Wonderful execution!
OMG! Thank you!
Ein großartiges Konzert!
Well done!
Bravissimi!
too much beauty...❤ I heard this for the first time in the 80s, in a movie by Carlos Saura: Blindfolded Eyes; a great film by the way.
nice ..!!
What are the names of the other singers. I've loved so much the soprano that sing the last area (See Nature rejoincing).
Which are the names of the alto and the soprano that sings in "sound the trumpet"? they should be credited, too!
thank you... here you go
Unmistakably England's greatest native-born composer
Excellent! Despite no counter tenor.

Love Croatia. Love Purcell.

Faarr from the James Bowman and Michael Chance's version, unsurpassable and unsurpassed. But very, very good anyway !
SHE SOUNDS LIKE ALFRED DELLER...............
Yes, amazing voice
Wrong tempo. I Dislike.
snob
fool
They hated him because he told the truth. Good musicians and great singers otherwise.
