It's common for first time offenders in white collar. It records the felony on the record, so re-offending makes it easier to get further charges. It's just generally not worth the hassle for courts to get into a fight with rich people over their first offense when the rich person will hit them with so many lawyers; that time is better spent getting other people their speedy trials.

1717, I'd say the point is that if the judge had sentenced Trump to jail time, there would have been no "peaceful transition of power" that was the priority of the Biden administration & the Supreme Court would have shot it down anyway bc it would have "interfered" with the insurrectionist president's ability to carry out his "duties," as if he gives a tinker's damn about that anyway.

They start with a non-crime, that isn't illegal and is routinely done by others (hush money payouts). No person has ever been charged for this. But if it were a crime, it's still a misdemeanor, but they used nonsense reasoning to escalate it to a felony. Then, they instructed the jury that finding him guilty on any of the counts, is to be considered guilty on all counts, another first in history. This is what legal experts are calling "a novel legal theory". They were trying to basically invent new law, in order to call what he did a crime. They refused to move the case out of New York, where there is significant political bias against Trump. The SCOTUS ruled they can't call routine presidential decisions a crime, but they didn't drop the charges like the other cases.
We are informed and we know the details, while you know none of these details. Yet, despite not knowing the facts of the case, you are upset he was not jailed. Who is the cult again? Are you sure it isn't you?
