The Julian Calendar and Gregorian Calendar diverged after the Gregorian reform in 1582.
The Gregorian Calendar was more accurate, but the Julian Calendar continued to slip behind.
After the Gregorian reform, December 25th (Gregorian) was about 10 days ahead of December 25th (Julian).
The difference increased to 13 days by the 20th century.
The last time December 25th on the Gregorian Calendar corresponded to January 5th on the Julian Calendar was in the late 19th century, just before the discrepancy grew to 13 days.
So, around the late 1800s, December 25th (Gregorian) was equivalent to January 5th (Julian)!
So; there was a time when there would have been 12 days between the old and new calendar.
However; the 12 days of Christmas take us to January 5th, the Eve of the Feast of Theophany! So that's why there is 12 days of Christmas.

I have said Shalom since hippie days along with peace and love! Pax. Um we have the advent wreath and battery candles and a menorah to celebrate the Jewish. The season of lights. Can't burn a yule log! Did Jesus say we were to follow him in Orthodox? I don't understand the family deciding to be Jewish. I don't think it's that easy. I went to a protestant church where the pastor had learned Greek and Hebrew. We could learn a word etc. Are they sucked into a cult of some sort? How did they come to believe being Jewish was the way? Someone out in the world must have a group started. God bless you. I lack knowledge I'm sure they must too. ❤

@@marymccarthy771 I think the idea he is bucking up against is that Hebrew is somehow, "more holy" than English, so instead of saying, "peace" I'm going to say "Shalom" instead of Jesus Christ, "Yahasha HaMashach!"

@@TheMaineoutdoors Stop by for a Vespers service! Phil has done a great job setting up an Orthodox Catholic Church plant under the direction of his bishop and spiritual father. Everything has been hand made by himself! He and his wife would love to pray with you. :)
